Gonna say immediately, the best episode of the season and honestly show so far, over all of s1. Incredibley tense and thrilling. Had me get goosebumps, hold my breath, sit on the edge of my seat and weep at several times. Annatar's manipulation was absolutely masterful. And JUSTICE FOR VALANDIL!!!

God its heartbreaking to see the dwarfs fall to the greed that the rings ignite in them. I think this series has fleshed out sauron really well and i think it adds a good bit of context to his role in the lord of the rings.

Annatar was CHILLING in this episode. And i don't mean he was hanging out. He was busy gaslighting. I felt like I was in a Toxic relationship. I loved how he was backlit throughout the episode or cloaked in shadow with just the reflection in his eyes glistening. So genuinely sinister despite his inviting vocal inflection.

I think Miriel saw the vision of Numenor being consumed by water, because she is destined to die on the island somehow, even though she's one of the Faithful. Elendil sees another vision of the future because his path will lead to Middle Earth after Numenor falls.
@Makhiel
@Makhiel 3 ай бұрын
To be fair to Míriel, she has no reason to believe the visions are specific to the person touching the palantír, since Galadriel (and presumably Míriel's father as well) saw the same vision as her.

There's a reason Sauron was known as The Deceiver lol. He's a MASTER manipulator. You kind of have to give him props for it, really. lol Yeah you're right about the Dwarven rings. It always annoyed Sauron to no end that he never could control the dwarven ring bearers like he could the men. But Aule the Smith made dwarves very sturdy, like you said, with a natural resistance to evil....so the dwarves never went to the Unseen world or anything but the rings made them inordinately greedy, which in turn caused them to amass hoards and attract dragons....or dig too deep and awaken things in the deep dark. ;) So in a round about way, the dwarf rings worked.....just not the way Sauron originally intended. He eventually did get three out of the seven back into his possession. The other four were consumed by dragons.

the foreshadowing of the balrog is so ominous and delicious, it's presence seemingly disrupting the stone singing of the dwarves and then returning Disas' call really captured the the horror that exists in the deep places of the world.

The thing we here in Moria is either the Balrog, or a "Nameless thing" which is referred to in the Lord of the Rings Book(s) by Gandalf when he tells of his fight against the Balrog

I think you are correct in seeing that Disa is thinking that the Dwarf Ring is providing the dwarves with control over the mountain rather than working in partner with it. There is a similar message in the Tom Bombadil story, where he is teaching the Stranger that you have to work in harmony with nature. I keep encouraging people to check out the Rings and Realms podcast on KZbin for some great analysis of this series. While it still has its faults, I think there is a lot to appreciate in this series and this season is a definite improvement over season one.

After season 2, watch The Hobbit movies again. New skylight. How the goblins get in? The pool. Is that where Bilbo fell to and met Gollum?
@Pixlriffs
@Pixlriffs 3 ай бұрын
It isn’t Gollum’s cave - Bilbo encounters him much further North than Moria. The Dwarves in The Hobbit are headed for Erebor, which is to the North-east, while Moria is more South-east. It’s certainly possible that digging new sun-shafts provides more places for orcs and goblins to enter, but I think the Balrog is supposed to have wrecked Khazad-dum before any goblins felt bold enough to creep into Moria. It’s also more likely that any orcs and goblins would invade from lower tunnels of their own, given their aversion to sunlight.

I didn’t see the last Hobbit movie. Are they backtracking to imply this dwarf ring is responsible for the gold madness of Thorins’ party and cause of the Battle of Five Armies?
@bemasaberwyn55
@bemasaberwyn55 3 ай бұрын
It seems that Sauron is, heightening negative qualities in his "targets" through the rings. So for example he's adding to the greed of the senior Durin. With men he'd probably be adding to their arrogance (just look at Pharazon's @$$h●le kid). This is different from the dragon sickness that Smaug infected in the 60 years he was in Erebor
@ninfreak95
@ninfreak95 3 ай бұрын
Yes, in canon the Dwarven rings make them very greedy. The hoarding of treasure led to dragon and ancient evil problems lol. (Smaug and the Balrog are two of these consequences). It's strange to think that the elves and men survived Sauron's corruption, but in a way the dwarves were destroyed.

Good episode. You know who wasn't in it? Harfoots and 1 dollar Gandalf. Who else was barely in it? Galadriel. That's how you fix this show, Amazon. You could have done it for the entire season 2.
@davidgreen6490
@davidgreen6490 3 ай бұрын
Season 2 is a lot better BUT the glaring problem of different Elf ethnicities still remains. It completely destroys the entire lore of the Silmarillion and why there was a "sundering of the elves" in the first place. In the Jackson films, there is a reason why all the elves that came to ally themselves at Helms Deep were all blond, lol. There is a VERY important reason why all the elves should look similar, and why Galadriel and Celegorm had blond hair but Elrond did not. If we don't stop the American disease of racism and their DEI nonsense, it will destroy every piece of literature transferred to film..
