I'm a huge Omori fan, but I agree, it can feel a bit dragging sometimes. I love everything about it, even not being a turn-based RPG fan myself too, but one thing I agree with and that a lot of people agree with is that it can be made a lot shorter. Waayyyyyy shorter.

I think I was one of the few people who thought it was the perfect length for the most part. It's long but the characters, creativity, story, and world kept me hooked from the very beginning. Plus I think spending so much time in the world just made me more invested in the characters and care more. Slowly piecing together the truth from small cracks in the illusion. When it finally clicks and you realise it makes that payoff so much more impactful as you remember back to specific moments.

I'll be honest, even though I too was spoiled on the game's story (I watched NitroRad's video on it), I still went in not knowing everything that happened in between. Everything I went through in the game still resonated with me; it still brought me to tears in a couple of places. This game is one of the best Rpg's I've had the chance of playing, even going so far as to get all achievements. Even if you were spoiled on the game's story, the journey itself is still worth taking.

“Flawed yet Masterful” such a perfect title for this game, For being my favourite game of all time I always knew that it wasn’t perfect and that Headspace was the main issue. Basic Fights get tiring, some areas drag on a bit and i get that. But This games story Makes every single issue with this game obsolete in my eyes. I too had the game spoiled by KZbin recommendations and also just me being curious. I had no intention to play the game since knowing the ending but a friend told me there were a lot of secrets to discover in this game so i got it anyways thinking this would be a fun little treasure hunt. And despite everything this game Completely Floored me with its story and Characters in no way any other game or show or movie has done before. I have never been so attached to a set of characters as much as i have with Omori. It’s actually insane and i feel the pain of not exploring this game blind since i felt like i missed out on the best Playthrough of my life. But even then this game has scored the top if my favourite games list (Maybe 4th or 5th on my Best games list). I have so much i want to say about this game that i just can’t put into words. But yeah this game is aight…

I would say that the best thing about Omori are the different wacky characters you can meet in the head-world. I found most of thrm so memorable and funny that i never felt bored while exploring the head-world. I also think that the turned-base rpg is really well done in bosses, where you have more time to develop your strategy and have to deal with special attacks, while with regular enemy i fall asleep after 2 minutes of gameplay. I also cried like a fountain while scrolling through the photo album in the last chapter of the house-world.

no, development hell did not pay off. please don't say something like that, it is RIDICULOUSLY ignorant of what development hell actually feels like. development hell did nothing good for the game. if not for development hell, the game would likely have came out earlier and possibly in a better state than it is today. I guarantee no one who's been in genuine development hell thinks it 'paid off' in any way, shape or form, myself included. I get that you probably weren't meaning to say anything like that, but statements like that get people who've been through things like that REALLY uncomfortable. I'm not glad that the devs went through that development hell, but I can appreciate the game. (and their time in hell was on the milder side too; much of it very avoidable if not for omocat's unrealistic ideas and broken promises.) don't take this the wrong way; I'm not meaning to start anything. I just think you could be a little more aware of what development hell really is, in which case I would recommend watching noodle's video on crunch culture, or just word your comment better.

I'll be honest, I don't mind the game's length. I love when games have a lot of content, and (for better or worse considering the story) I loved Headspace and exploring its huge areas, even if I think the real world was more interesting narratively. I can definitely see why people would want it to be shorter, especially with areas like Sweetheart's Castle and Humphrey. I do also agree that the game's biggest strength is its story, it's wonderful and probably the best story I have seen in a game (even if I got spoiled on the biggest twist). As much as I agree with you, the game dragging on makes so much sense in the plot so I can't really imagine a version of the game without it Spoilers For a more meta take, whether you enjoy the gameplay of headspace of or not, both feelings could be applied to Sunny. There is a pretty solid theory that claims all the skeletons in Humphrey's stomachs are previous attempts to "Find Basil", so that would imply that Sunny has done multiple attempts already to discover the truth but gave up or failed at the last step, leading to him feeling apathetic or bored throughout the main section of the game, so that feeling is conveyed to the player. It doesn't excuse the game being boring, but it helps me look back in retrospect and appreciate the gameplay a bit more. But if you're enjoying the gameplay, then Omori's plan to keep Sunny distracted is working and you start to forget the main goal of "Finding Basil" like the character's do, spending more time doing all the side quests in Headspace and denying your responsibilities in the real world.

I mostly agree, everything is designed in a way which feels like the situation. This game makes you feel like Sunny. In the case of Omori if more focus went into the game aspect the story would risk being lost or even annoying. It could even run the risk of creating a divide between the player and Sunny. Yes the boring aspects are still flaws. Eating still requires killing plants or animals. It is an evil which can't be avoided, you just pick who/what suffers.

Ive been a fan of omori for w while and i really liked your review, i do agree with a lot of these points (like how the game streaches out at some points) personallly i like the combat of the game since doing the harder bosses of the game and some modded one is really fun and challenging (plus literally oneshoting most bosses with kel nuke) anyways just wanted you to know that im sure most of us are pleased and cant wait for your bext review :)

I don’t know why so many people give RPGmaker games so much flak- sure, there’s some bad, lazy ones in there, but it’s no where near the point of Unity games. More often than not you get a decent or great game.
@garysue1589

From my experience, RPGMaker games never got flak for anything- the bar is just set low until you prove your game is an exception. Everybody has access to it, so some caution is to be expected imo.

that's true, omori is best experienced blind, i myself avoided any spoilers when i bought the game and it's excellent. I might be the few minorities that actually like the combat and world, but that's just me, i like simple things, i used to click heads for a living so me like simple things. or maybe the story was so great to a point where i didn't even cared about it, i was so immersed in the story that i didn't give a damn about its flaws because how great the story is and it made me just want to discover more about this bitter sweet story I recommend to anyone that can handle the heavy topics mentioned on the title screen, have a great one

Thank you for not absoutely destroying omori...... All jokes aside, this game is one of the most impactful rpgs i have ever played, i have the same feelings as you though, the gameplay randomly starts dragging on in early and late game, but it is still very fun! playing this game unspoiled is the best way to actually experience and enjoy it.

Yeah I agree with you. Honestly the biggest problem about the game was the combat where I just held down the Z button and won most fights. But yeah, the art style, music, story, themes, plot twists, it all kept me coming back. I think I cried multiple times during my first playthrough, and my heart still hurts for all these characters, so much so to the point where the story basically really changed me a bit. I was so lucky to not have anything spoiled for me. But the worst part is being a 100%er Christ you have to play through the game multiple times for like Kel’s high-five and on the OMORI route I’ve done every quest except one because it locked me out of it also Rocco’s paintings and shit-

This is the best “Quirky Earthbound Inspired Indie Game About Depression” I’ve ever played. EDIT: Sorry about people spoiling this game for you. You really can’t enjoy this type of story focused game as much if you know exactly what happens. It must feel infuriating that so many people recommended this game and then proceed to spoil the twists that make it so good.
