You have two kids, and a full time job, and still produce all this quality content? It boggles my mind. Happy New Year to you. I discovered you late in 2024 and you really have added a lot of enjoyment to my year (and beyond!).

I recently discovered the KZbin channel of Richard Charles, who recommends a "patch journal" where you first describe your intention, then do the thing, then write down some reflections.

You continue to amaze me Mr. Omri. I admire you for everything you have done for me musically as well as mentally. From a metal guitarist who really didn't expect much when entering modular synthesis. Thank you and A Happy new year!

Omri, a sincere thanks for all the creative ideas you share, the patches and presets, the technical explanations and how-to tips, the introductions to various modules and their uses...and the pure excitement of musical exploration within VCV Rack. Your videos recently opened the doorway into virtual modular for me and have quickly become a favorite way to unwind at the end of the day. Thanks so much and hope it's a happy 2025!

Thanks for the shoutout! Yes, reverse engineering can be an extremely valuable aspect when it comes to improving your sound design. I also recommend analyzing pieces of music by placing them in your DAW, putting a spectrum plugin on the track such as SPAN (free) and looking to see what frequencies are being used and where to get a better starting point for your own tracks, whether that's in VCV or elsewhere.

Great tips! My template patch has 'alea' by fortisan modulare, which will add a single random module to your rack. There's also 'What the Rack' if you want to introduce more radical changes.

This might be your best video ever. I've finally developed the discipline to use a fixed rack, influenced by your 'fixed rack' playlist and videos about hardware modular. I'm on rack 2 and try to go for 6 weeks with each one (I’m retired so I’m lucky enough to be able to make music every day). I now use VCV for many of the parts of my hip hop beats and stock music. I also set myself the challenge to read all the 'user manuals' on each module's library page. I'm really impressed by how good most of them are. I've got a long list of great modules that I’m chipping away at getting to grips with. Once again, thanks for this video.

Just deleted all my modules last week because I felt overwhelmed by the quantity of modules. Took the decision to “start again” from just VCV pack reading the manual for each module and then adding a new one only after reading its manual. Feels good to know I’m not completely crazy 😂😂 These are all great suggestions tho, thanks another time for the quality of your content!

I just did the same. I had stopped using VCV for a while and there have been so many great additions while I wasn’t paying attention, just in the Free collection. We could spend a long time only exploring those. Happy new year!

The value of this channel cannot be overstated. Thank you. I started my modular with reaktor blocks and the toybox expansions. And i was incredibly limited because i had to spend so much time figuring everything out myself because there is very little content based on that platform. And as someone with extreme adhd i really struggle to learn via reading and just trying things. I get frustrated or distracted. Your channel has taught me more in the short time i have been here than all the time i spent in reaktor combined.

One thing I've been doing is working with a fixed rack. Recently I've been working on a minimalist set up by using the Traffic module to use Crust as a one module drum machine and using TsL to split one of the sequences from Marbels into 2 voices

Thank you for this advice. You are an exceptional tutor. I will be implementing a fee of these ideas already. One learning technique is reading other synth manuals and attempting to replicate the synths in vcv. Honestly, that can be overly ambitious much of the time, and your ideas of breaking down the synth manuals to smaller patches is likely a smarter way to go. Thanks again for your incredible content.

While I don't want to bother you too much in the VCV Discord (And I don't have the same there name sadly.) I came in months, if not years late for pinging you on KZbin. For point 1: Concentrate on specific modules. I love your fixed rack series and have experimented a whole bunch with both the experimental techno one. The one you showed especially. As well as the instruo focused, I think the video is called "ambient" something. With patches posted in there. One thing of the top of my head is using a mixer as a "randomization expander" in the experimental techno rack. Which was absolutely wild to me. Definitely not what it's meant to do. But it worked, and it had to work. Because there was nothing else to do it with. Always appreciate your videos. You're a huge inspiration, and your enthusiasm is infectious. Many creators have a reaction similar to you of "ooh man, ooh yeah" to the weirdest "not music" sounds. And I love it. It really pushes me forward and makes me realize that all these weird wonky, ambiguous CV from anything into literally any module is a huge creative inspiration. To me, it doesn't have to be "music." It just have to be sounds I enjoy, and seeing creators embrace that mindset is incredibly motivating. Thank you for all your videos and a happy new year to you Omri.

Thanks for these tips, Omri. I've been a lifelong fan of synthesis since my early days, starting with theremin whines in cheesy '50's SciFi movies thru Carlos, Subtonick, Kraftwerk, TDream, Schulze, etc., and right-up to the present. Now 69 and recently retired, I've decided to take a deep-dive plunge into VCV and have been using your's and various other KZbin channels as learning sources. Gotta say , right now it's much like drinking from a fire hose, but I know a slow, measured approach and repetition is key to understanding. I'm excited, motivated and feel like a kid in a candy shop! Oh, und Froehliche Neu Jahr! Prost!

great ideas here, I am trying to be more experimental in VCV and exploring new modules and the random module idea is a great way to force yourself to get out of your comfort zone. Sometimes I just patch into a scope to see what the CV is doing. No sound, just the movement of the CV and the difference between and original source and a modulation of the source into the second port. I would love the scopes to be expanded to even more inputs!

The time thing has always been my sticking point. I can certainly spare 5 or 10 minutes a day to play with this stuff, but with music, it always feels like I'd need at least an hour to really get into a flow state with it, and I end up denying myself the opportunity to even open the software or pick up the instrument. This is a good reminder that you don't have to finish something for the time spent to still be worthwhile. I need to remember that it's about having fun and being creative, first and foremost. The product can come later. (Or never!)
