Hi Alef! You let me know about Slips on Reddit a little bit ago, so seeing this video pop up made me extra excited (and extra happy for you!) Just wanted to give you one more shout-out, because Slips has become my favorite sequencer in all of VCV. It is an absolute gem of a module and I wish I had a hardware version too. Thank you so much for your amazing work, and for letting me know about it!!

@damnthewitchsiren hey, nice to see you again lol. thanks so much for the kind words. I'm genuinely thrilled that people are having fun with it. and HOO BOY, hearing someone say they want a hardware version is super cool! (I've actually never even touched a hardware modular setup so I wouldn't have the first idea how to do so 😄)

I'm always so impressed by how effortlessly you seem to be able to come up with nice sequences. I know that its randomly generated, but you manage to pull it together in a way that seems so magical. Thanks for the video!

What a cool generative sequencer! Fun little trick is to use an envelope generator to modulate the "slips" category, with a slow attack and decay, and you can create a sequence that grows more random over time and falls back down to the original sequence. Could be a fun way to have a mixture of regularity and generative textures in a very organic way.

clever idea! i've already gotten a bunch of interesting thoughts rattling around in my brain since the video premiered and i'll probably be diving back in to make even more changes/updates to the module while keeping some of these ideas in mind, so thanks for the interesting tip! :D

That's a great generative sequencer, thanks for showcasing this. Haven't been touching VCV much lately, guess it's time to watch your newer videos and play around with VCV again. 😀

Thanks for this video - love the Slips module. Also really like how you insert the video cutaway with the patch you are using to play over the top of the sequence.

So good, thank you! One question, what options are there to preserve a sequence that you like? What's a good process for recording midi sequences if I wanted to import them into another project, or build a library?
@OmriCohen-Music4 ай бұрын
Thanks! You can try using WAV recorders to record the actual CV. Something like Simpliciter or the Looper from Lilac can record also CV.
@AB-wf8ek4 ай бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music I actually found Chinenual MIDI Recorder helpful for this, recording to a MIDI file and then importing using Entrain Melody sequencer or Squinky Seq++

Hello there and friendly greetings! I am a lot curious to know what do you think about the LX49+ keyboard: as far as I'm concerned it's great as DAW controller (plenty of knobs, sliders and buttons) but not so great as keyboard, it seems that the response from VCV is not as precise as I would like (even if it seems to be an issue only with VCV, other DAWs I use don't seems to be affected). Thanks for sharing this tutorial! Have a great day!
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Hi! You're right, the keyboard is not amazing, but it's more than enough for my needs. I had the 88 keys version once, and the keys were much better, but this one is more compact and works better for me. I like it especially because of the knobs and faders, which is perfect for VCV, in my opinion. For the price it costs, I think it's a great controller. By the way, the response in VCV will very much depend on the block size you choose, so lowering it might give you better results.
@yeoldecurmudgeon1969 Жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music you are right, the price and the plenty of controllers that seems to be made for VCV, make that keyboard a good tool (I have the 49 keys model). I didn't know about the block size! Thank you for that information! 👍

Just wondering - how did you get the dark skin on slips? Even with "use dark mode where available" set to "on", mine still shows up as plain white. Do I need to re-install the modules from scratch?
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
In the right-click menu, you can change the contrast :)
@Frustratia Жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music thanks, Omri. Must say that I'm not necessarily impressed with the "global dark mode" setti g in VCV, much preferred having to set it on a per-module or per-collection basis. There are some modules, like the BogAudio ones, that don't (IMO) look as good in Dark.
@alefnull Жыл бұрын
@@Frustratia hi there! just wanted to pop in to say i initially liked the idea of Rack's global dark mode thing, and i was at one point considering adopting it for the alef's bits plugin, but since (a) i also kind of prefer having individual control, and (b) it would require completely removing all the work i did to get my whole "contrast" setting implemented, so i think i've decided to keep it like this. though i may tweak some stuff as far as how to interact with the 'global contrast' setting (for example, right now a module's right click menu needs to have "use global contrast" unchecked in order to even adjust the module's contrast, and i don't love having to do that so i may rework it at some point)
