The Nebulae V2 default granular in freeze mode is more similar to Arbhar than Clouds in my opinion. Nebulae doesn't have the fancy interface (having to hold the key for 'alternative'), but nicer audio quality, stereo input and longer buffers. Both are powered by Raspberry Pi (Arbar has a Raspberry Pi compute module, similar to Korg Wavestate).

Arbhar i like a lot, but inaccessibility of usb slot and not having quick access to various banks of six buffers, that you could switch per track, during a longer performance was dissapointing. but this is about to change with new firmware and usb expander. so Arbhar is in my sights again :)))

Really nice video and very interesting modules, but... I just did a price check and they are €569 and €579 respectively. That's €1148 for both, and these are then un-housed, un-powered modules. Even if we accept they are good value, that's still a lot of money. Now, don't get me wrong, I have a very costly addiction to analog mono-synths, so would fully encourage people to pursue happiness and the art they want to create, but the value proposition for these modules is a somewhat lost on me.
@XanderEwald4 жыл бұрын
Citizen Synth Value proposition is a very flexible term when it comes to music instruments. A grand piano can cost you more then 100k, a good concert guitar can set you back 10k, and you can easily spend 8k on a saxophone. Yet I would get way more happiness and use out of these 500 $ modules. It really depends on your needs and preferences, but in comparison I think synths are generally on the affordable side of music instruments.

How many hours would you envision yourself creating with either or both of these modules? I could easily see myself spending 5 hours per week with the Morphagene. So how much is that costing me per hour over the course of the year? In about ten weeks I've paid the Morphagene off. What's the used price on a Morphagene? What if you reduced your cost per hour by eliminating other expenses.
@Citizen-1a4 жыл бұрын
@@brutecoan7975 Its exactly that don't think I would spend that many hours with them, that the value proposition seems off for me. Well, if you use the clock input of Morphagene, the rec will be synced to the clock so you can record in time. If you want to play in sync, you can use the play input and/or sequence the controls.
@ryanpalma59474 жыл бұрын
Why is Arbhar considered more of a granular processor? Due to short buffer size? What granular sampler functions does it lack?
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Well, in comparison to the Morphagene, I won't call it a sampler, no. It will play back only up to 3 seconds of the sampled signal, and also the sampled signal is only 10 seconds long. I think of a sampler as something that will play the recorded signal from beginning to end by default, like the Morphagene does.
@KPsTboy4 жыл бұрын
My increasing problem with Clouds is that a longer sample really has impact on the quality of the sound (8-bit µ-law, 16 Khz). How does it compare to the Arbhar, what is the (unfortunately mono) sample/sampling quality?
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Well, the sample rate is 64kHz and 32 bit depth. It's mono as you mentioned, but to be honest, it doesn't really bother me, the results are anyway fully stereo and super interesting. Clouds is easier to work with in real time though so more of a processor rather than a recorder, and it has the other modes, of course. But if you're into granular manipulation, Arbhar is your friend...
@KPsTboy4 жыл бұрын
Omri Cohen Thanks for the info. Is the output of the Arbhar in stereo as you seem to mention? I found out that I don’t use the other modes on Clouds really so the Arbhar ticks the boxes in terms of the extended time and sound quality so this will most probably replace my Clouds in the future.
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, it will pan the grains in the stereo field so it will output a stereo signal. Also with the built in reverb it's nice to have a stereo signal. The delay is not stereo though.

Hello Which granular synth module will you recommend for real-time processing? I mean for example playing a guitar or other synths through module. Im not interested with recording it before live show, using samples and recording it during the live show and then playbacking. I'm looking for great granular module that i can plug in my instrument and get some interesting sounds. I'm using monsoon and it's great. I've also Nebulae but i think for my purpose of real-time processing, it's bad and i think it's better to use prepared samples before the show with nebulae so i want to sell it and buy another module. What you will recommned?
@OmriCohen-Music3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Well, monsoon is great actually. I have Microcell and I love it but it's pretty much the same as monsoon. There's Beads also so maybe that's an option but I'm not so sure how fitting it is for live performances. It has the auto gain, which is not the best for live, and the wavetable mode that can get quite annoying in live situations. One thing I can recommend, especially if you want to use a guitar with it (although it works great with synths as well) is the Microcosm pedal. Man, this thing is beautiful! Very easy to use, and quite fun to manipulate live as well.

By the way, there are several options you cen set at the back of the module so, for example, you can have the mod input control a delay, and then there is no random panning anyway, and you can set the mod input to control the stereo width with cv. I have it normally set to have control over the reverb with the mod input so there's also random panning.
