A very thorough and even impressive (it's clear that you have a lot of experience with not only VCV but synthesis and production in general) demonstration of a promising module. Maybe with this I won't need any DAW for traditional melodic music. Thank you!

I had a little look at this module last year. But I'd rather try it out than do anything useful with it. When I look at your video and see what the module can do, I get interested to have a closer look at it again. Thanks for your explanations. So far I have been using the Phrase Seq of Impromptu to create non generated melodies. Before VCV I played around with FL-Studio, where you are more used to piano rolls than knobs. Hardware-wise, sequencers like this piano roll module are probably unusual. It would be interesting to have a filter in VCV Rack that would allow you to display only those modules for which there is a counterpart as hardware. I wonder if there are still many modules displayed. Surely the fundamental modules, Befaco and Audible Instruments would stay visible :)
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, there's a hardware clone tag you can use. There are a few more of those like Erica Synths, Nano

hi Omri. your videos have been very vital on my introduction to modular synths and vcv rack in specific. i was wondering if i could use a note sequencer on the piano roll, in order for it to play random notes on a given scale? and if so, how can i do it?
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm not so sure I understand though, can you elaborate?
@ricardodiaz97034 жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music I'll try my best! I'm still very new to all of this and I lack some technical vocabulary. Let's take as an example your generative music patch. In there you have a note sequencer play random patterns of notes, right? the question is; would it be possible to add the piano roll into that equation? Anyways, keep on the good work. I really love your music dude
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
So you want to play random notes with the piano roll? You want to do this so you have control on the WHEN a new note will happen, but still wants a random note?
@ricardodiaz97034 жыл бұрын
@@OmriCohen-Music well, yes. exactly that
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
@@ricardodiaz9703 Ok cool, so you can use S&H for example. If you use the one from BogAudio, you can select the range in the right-click menu so you don't get too high or too low pitches, and all you have to do is set the notes on the piano roll. The pitch doesn't matter, just their place in the timeline, and use the gate output to trigger the S&H. That way, for each gate, you will get a random note so you choose when it will happen, but not which note you will get. Will this work for you?
@macronencer4 жыл бұрын
This looks great! Simple to use and powerful enough to make a huge difference. I'm used to using my DAW (Cubase) at the moment, and would definitely want to use VCV Rack as a partner app to that, rather than to replace it - which means I need a way of tightly integrating the two in some circumstances. Is it best to wait for the VST to arrive, or do you think there's a smooth enough workflow that's achievable with a module like this one? I've seen that Seq++ can do MIDI import/export, but I was wondering whether I've missed any other modules that are even more powerful.

Seems kind of strange that the gate output doesn't retrig on each note by default, with the retrig output only retrigging on notes you've specifically set to retrigger. Doesn't that make the outputs redundant?
@OmriCohen-Music6 жыл бұрын
Well, for me, having more outputs means having more possibilities. Just because it's tagged "retrig" doesn't mean that we have to use it just for this... :)

i seem to be having some trouble with using one piano roll to change the sequence of another. it's changing a second too late. any ideas?
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Well, in VCV, each module you add in the chain will add a bit of delay. It's nothing significant but it can cause issues like what you describe. There's a module, also from RCM, that can help with this. It's the Seq Adapter. Try using it and see if it works. If not, feel free to contact me via mail and I will try to help you further :)

@@OmriCohen-Music awesome, thank you! I'll give it a try!

Great video as always! But regarding the module it somehow does not feel right to have modules like this in a modular emulator. Of course everyone is free to program and use whatever they want. It is just a vague emotion that this is not "modular enough".
@OmriCohen-Music4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And yes, I totally understand what you mean but I guess that of someone finds this inspiring, then why not using it. It's all about the music... Cheers!
