The muscle pain from statins can be extreme. It crippled my mother so badly I had to cook and clean for her. Many people on statins don't tell the doctor about it, they don't know, thinking the aches are a normal part of aging. The doc put her off the statins for a week, the pain immediately went away and she's running around like she's 20 years younger.

Statins are aggressively introduced by most doctors including mine. I was forced to take it because he said my cholesterol is high. After a few months I was in pain & had to ask him what was wrong as I was pain free before I started statin. He never mention COQ10. I had to find out myself by watching some videos on KZbin including this one. I stopped statin without permission from my dr to save myself from pain.

I was obese and was put on blood pressure meds and statins. The statins caused bad pain in my hips, making it very uncomfortable to lie down in bed. The BP meds (and probably the statins too) contributed to me suffering acute necrotising pancreatitis, which nearly killed me and left me with T2D. After that I refused further statins and other meds and went on to the keto diet. I lost more that 90lbs. My blood pressure is normal. I’m no longer obese. I’m fitter than I have ever been. These treatments are based on bad science and a misunderstanding of the medical processes at work. They treat the symptoms, not the base problem, which in my case was obesity, insulin resistance and, mostly, a bad diet ( even though I ate what dieticians recommended!)

I would be in a meeting at work and could not recall anyone's name. People I had worked with for 11 years. I couldn't memorize anything. Not a good thing for an engineer. My IQ had to have dropped 20% or better. It was horrible. Worse than that, my blood cholesterol hadn't changed by one point! I told my doctor about these effects and she laughed at me and recommended seeing a psychologist! Needless to say, I have stopped ALL the poisons she had me on and I have not gone near another doctor since then. Five years and I am healthier than I have ever been.

I was on statins for many years, then I was diagnosed as a T2 diabetic and began the recommended regimen with meds with only moderate success. As I began to educate myself about T2 and researched the meds I was taking I discovered the statin was contributing to my increased blood glucose. Fast forward I began a keto regimen and after a few months decided to wean off the statin at least temporarily to see how much the statin affected my BG numbers. After seeing my numbers decrease by 15-20 points on average. I also noticed my general feeling of body aches and malaise went away, along with the migraine headaches I had suffered from for years, and as I thought back I never had a migraine until I started on statins. So I am no longer using the poison they are pushing, yes my total cholesterol is higher than the Dr. wants but my triglycerides are low, and HDL is higher than it has ever been. I have politely told my Dr. we can discuss so long as the conversation does not include statins. I am also free from meds for T2.

We are all responsible for our own selves including health and fitness. I had a decent diet (mostly healthy) and was in good physical condition going to the gym at least four times a week, a mix of cardio and resistance training. I felt damn good overall! After a health check about 7 years ago I was informed that I had both high blood pressure and cholesterol. On my Dr advise I agreed to use statins for treatment, lowest doses for both. A few years later I had the kidney stone, going to the bathroom was virtually like water almost every time, and a few years later I started having very painful leg cramps. Four months ago I stopped taking statins completely. Results…no more stones (I hope) no diarrhea and no cramps. I’m also sleeping better, more sound but the same amount of time, about 6 hours, and I feel GREAT! Side note…no wife either, that might help!

Statins almost paralyzed me. I took myself off them and everything eventually went back to normal. I had heart problems, felt like I was going to pass out at random times and never felt normal for even 1 hour. Videos including ones by Dr. Berg made me realize how dangerous the statin was and I'm so glad I stopped taking it. I wonder how bad it could have gotten if i didn't find out the dangers of statins...they're garbage!!! Keto also helped me tremendously. I lost 40 lbs and my A1C sugars are down to pre diabetes numbers in just 6 months. My sugars now stabalized at 4-5.5 every day and i never crash. P.s. I'm haven't taken any diabetic meds since 3 months after diagnosis.

By the 9th of this month it was reduced to 2.5mg. I was taken off of finofibrate. I haven't taken the BP med for 12 days now and my BP is doing fine without it. I was weak and my legs felt heavy and like dragging. I felt like I had some kind of muscle disease. I am doing quite a bit better now that I'm off of it. I thank God for helping me make the changes!

Would you recommend the reduced form of Co Q 10- Ubiquinol which is better absorbed for the elderly ..? Thanks doc! Cheers from Melbourne
@dlg54854 жыл бұрын
Ubiquinol is the ONLY form of CoQ10 that older people should take, as it is the same form that occurs naturally in the body. As we age, we are not able to convert the oxidized form (ubiquinone) as efficiently as when we are young. Personally, I don't think anyone should bother with the oxidized form. Ubiquinol is more expensive, but it's worth the cost to get the far superior absorption. Be sure to look for the "Kaneka" trademark on the ingredients label. If you don't see that word, it's not real ubiquinol.

Dr Berg. Long time subscriber and want to thank you for all the invaluable information you provide. I’m in a quandary and not sure what to do. I am on a 10mg dose of a (nameless) statin. I’ve been wanting to get off of it, but both of my Dr’s refuse to do so. They tell me that my numbers are where they are due to taking the medication. Initially when I was prescribed this back in 2018, my cholesterol level was 215. In the interim I changed my diet, exercised more and limited my alcohol intake. My last 2 years (2020/2021) blood numbers are: Chol: 120/130, Trig: 93/93, HDL: 52/50, VLDL: 19/19, LDL: 49/65. I’m at a loss on what to do. Naturally, the fear of cutting them out on my own accord frightens me, but I feel that may be my only recourse. Any advice is appreciated.

I do not know what to think anymore. I have alwsys eaten a very good diet, high in a wide repertoire of vegetables, raw and steamed, and protein. Never ate too much processed carbs. Yet my ldl levels stayed high according to my doctor. I resisted a low dose Crestor by my doctor. His approach was supermarket lineup...high cholesterol...take statins. My blood pressure was always good and still is. I was never overweight and physically active, running, walking, weights etc. I went keto about two yrs ago and believe it has healthy benefits. I passed ECG and stress tests easily and my enzymes when recently tested showed them to be normal. Then I started getting mild numbness in my left chest, arms and legs. I thought it was a bit of sciatica because i felt fine otherwise. I was still exercising without any discomfort at all. The cardiologist ran a nuclear test on me and said I have 3 blocked arteries. I was horrified. How could a person who has always eaten well and exercised regularly, end up with blocked arteries? I am going for an angiogram in a couple of days. In the meantime, he put me on baby aspirin, 20mg of Crestor, and a 2.5mg of a beta blocker. I think the 20 MG is way too high

I have an annual review with blood test (high blood pressure) for over 20 years. About 7years ago I was told my Cholesterol was increasing and they recommended Statins which I refused each year. In 2017 they said the level was close to critical and I still refused. I then started to look for a food that could help, I eat a grapefruit before each meal (at least 2 a day). Six months later I was retested prior to an Ankle Op which showed a small reduction, I told the GP what I was eating to which he responded that the NHS threshold decreases with age (71 at the time). 18months later I was told my bloods were fine and I had to ask what is my cholesterol level 4.8 I was told which is no problem. I then asked them to check it from 2years previous 6.8. After the 2019 review I had to change blood pressure tablets which the instructions included a strong warning against grapefruit in any form. After 8 months the drug was changed and I was able to return to grapefruit. The 2020 review I was still being told my bloods are fine I then had to ask for my cholesterol level which Ed a small increase which I attribute to 8 months no grapefruit. I now keep to one Grapefruit a day and we shall see what the level of cholesterol is on the next review later this year. Grapefruit will not suit everyone and I admit it does weaken the teeth (cleaning twice a day helps). Thankfully Doctors and Nurses think I must be taking Statins to keep my Cholesterol under control until I tell them otherwise.

I am 72 and a healthy male. My BMI is 26.5 and cholesterol level typically 170 or lower with triglycerides always below 100 and sometimes as low as 50, but my HDC was only 40. At my physical in 2021 my BP was 130/80 and the doctor said with all the data my chance of developing heart disease was 20%, way too high he said. So he put me on 5 mg of atorvastatin daily. After 1 week I started to see halos around lights. I stopped taking the atorvastatin and the halos disappeared. I was then put on rosuvastatin with no apparent side effects. However, I worry about hidden side effects. Some doctors believe that everyone should be on a statin drug.

So, are statins “the noisy killer” by virtue of the pharmaceutical industry’s silence?
@rudilondt664 ай бұрын
Most doctors do not know this. Statins are bad. The medical group that invented statins did a 3 year study on 2 groups of people of 28000 persons each; one group on statins and the other on a placebo. After 3 years the number of deaths in both groups was the same. The group with the statins had a very high number of people that had dimentia. Statins are not prescribed in Japan. I found this information in 2005 on a Japanese website. It was prescribed by a bew cardiologist I had in 2005. I have not been able to find that website again.

i am a pretty active and fit 35 year old male. i started rosuvastatin 10mg about a year ago because my ldl-p was around 2400 and it should be below 900mg. i do have to admit at that time I started working at home and wasn't eating the healthiest and also stopped working out. Now, i went back to my eating healthier habits and working out lifestyle and my ldl-p was down to 1200 the last time i checked it, which was about about a few months ago so my cardiologist lowered my rosuvastatin dose to 5mg. i have noticed that even after my all these healthy changes and exercise my fasting glucose has been around 97-102 fasting and an a1c of around 5.5-5.7 so i have been on the border of being pre-diabetic. i have not really noticed much of a change on my fasting glucose or a1c after switching from 10mg rosuvastatin to 5mg rosuvastatin. my question is... can rosuvastatin affect my fasting glucose and a1c? none of the healthy changes i am making (which include exercising 5 days a week with a mix of cardio and strength training. eating whole foods and completely cutting out anything processed including sugar) seem to be improving my glucose or a1c. i have been also checking my fasting insulin and it seems to be around 4-8 which i would consider good. i have also been testing my glucose 1 and 2 hour post meal (including not so healthy meals and heavy carb meals like pizza) and my sugar never goes above 130mg which leads me to believe that my body is working properly and rosuvastatin is the one to blame. one thing i also wanted to mention is that my fasting sugar was at around 90 back when my cardiologist checked my ldl-p which was right before I went on rosuvastating. i would a fasting glucose of 90 is not too bad considering that at that time I was not eating healthy and working out at all for a few years. what do you think?
