Rolling stock: Alstom PL42AC Locomotive #4001 leading the charge, 2 Metro-North Alstom Comet V trailers, and a Metro-North Comet V Cab Car #6710 trailing.
ATTENTION: This is, by far, the longest on-board video I have ever done and I don't even know if I will film another one that will top the length of this one. Nonetheless, I hope y'all enjoy!
This line has two records of its own since it has the longest bridge (Moodna Viaduct separating Harriman and Salisbury Mills-Cornwall), longest tunnel (Otisville Tunnel separating Otisville and Port Jervis), and longest distance and time between two terminals (Hoboken to Port Jervis at 88 miles and 2 hours 5 minutes).
A year ago, I had planned on riding Train 59 all the way to Port Jervis, however, I found out that the train was cancelled the day I was scheduled to go and wanted to wait until the summer so that it wouldn't be too dark by the time I arrived at Port Jervis (at 8:20 pm). I wanted to do this video and take this trip because no one else did and because it was a 48-mile stretch which lasted for almost an hour. In addition, I kinda wanted to film the Moodna Viaduct and the Otisville Tunnel partially.
As usual, this set is led by a PL42AC, however, there are usually 5-6 NJT Comet V cars attached to it. Instead, there are three Metro-North Comet V cars, which I found pretty interesting, but not surprising since it was on Track 1, the shortest track in the terminal. I also found out that this train was supposed to be a 5 car consist, but we ended up with three instead.
The stops that were skipped were Kingsland, Lyndhurst, Delawanna, Passaic, Clifton, Paterson, Hawthorne, Glen Rock-Main, Ridgewood, Ho-Ho-Kus, Waldwick, Allendale, Ramsey, Ramsey Route 17, Mahwah, Suffern, (Metro-North territory) Sloatsburg, and Tuxedo. I found it interesting how the conductor stated "No more stops in New Jersey," which was something I wanted to hear for the longest and this ride felt like I was on an airplane since the conductor announced the train number, destination, frequency of stops, bumpy-ass tracks north of Suffern, smell of the diesel from the locomotive coming inside (kinda like airplane fuel), etc. I apologize for not showing portions of certain stops, especially Ridgewood (I wanted to film the outbound platform), but I was unable to because the train was packed.
This is one of the two only trains that make these eight stops (Hoboken Terminal, Secaucus Junction, Harriman, Salisbury Mills-Cornwall, Campbell Hall, Middletown-Town of Wallkill, Otisville, and Port Jervis). The other one is Train #50, the express train to Hoboken via the Main Line.
Lastly, I wanted to mention how the conductor was most likely trying to take pictures of me at the 1:54:30 portion of the video since he accidentally used his flash and quickly hid his phone from me. It's probably because he was unfamiliar with it, I guess. If you guys want to see what he looks like, check out 2:15. The guy looks like a slightly fatter version of Larry Wheels. As said in the end of the video, I will discuss about this conductor (and maybe the trip as a whole) in another video. Nonetheless, I hope you guys enjoyed and as always, drop a like, comment, subscribe, and share this video! Enjoy! :D

This may sound like a stupid question, but would a ticket to and from NYP be valid in Hoboken (i.e. to allow flexibility in trans-Hudson transportation)? The former destination is more expensive to travel to.
@AaronTheEagle1
@AaronTheEagle1 4 жыл бұрын
aycc-nbh72 No, the tickets are not flexible and are only accepted to a certain station. I mean I could be wrong, but from my experience, this is true.
@aycc-nbh7289
@aycc-nbh7289 4 жыл бұрын
AaronTheEagle1 TV I have actually been on a train to Hoboken before and someone fell asleep before the change at Secaucus for NYP, so the conductor told him that he missed the change and he could take the PATH train to Herald Square Station instead. I don’t know whether the reverse journey would be acceptable, though. Interestingly, I was on my way to Hoboken to do the same thing.
@aycc-nbh7289
@aycc-nbh7289 4 жыл бұрын
AaronTheEagle1 TV Though one option I just found out could be to buy only the ticket to Secaucus, then another one between NYP and Hoboken, which would grant passage to both trans-Hudson routes, since a change at Secaucus is necessary. Could that perhaps work?

Trying to figure out how to travel tomorrow to glenmere mansion.... we have a bunch of luggage. Is there storage space for luggage on this train line? How much does it cost per person?
@AaronTheEagle1
@AaronTheEagle1 3 жыл бұрын
It’s $23.50 per person from Port Jervis to Hoboken Terminal. If the bags aren’t too broad, you can use the overhead racks. If not, you may need to place your suitcases on the seats, but ask the conductor if you can. There’s one stipulation though: your bags cannot be in the aisle.

Here's a great Question which I can't wait to go both port Jarvis n spring Valley since they both on the metro north line Why can both rail lines go on the Hudson line instead of the Jersey line spring Valley to Grand central n port Jarvis to Grand central 💯🤔🤨
@JG347Tv
@JG347Tv 8 ай бұрын
The Hudson line doesn’t cross west of the Hudson River it runs only on the east side of the Hudson. I use to wonder the same thing. But if MTA really wanted to they could build a bridge to have metro north cross over the Hudson but I don’t know why they don’t do that because if they did they could make so much money

The MNCW engines still haven’t gotten PTC installed. The only way they can run is on a “cab car sandwich” set. So it’s pretty much like the Hoboken division is 15 locomotives short.
