As one of your content consumers this message makes me so happy. It doesn’t matter if the videos are the same the music is what changes and the journey that we get to see is different. Any new video that I see pop up in my subscription page I watch. Don’t need to entice me with some clickbait thumbnail or title. I just want to see Jon make a beat.

This seems like a good approach. I hope it works out well for you! KZbin analytics are a blessing and a curse. I also run a podcast and it's frustrating sometimes not really knowing how things are going without really digging into the data. KZbin makes this way more clear. But the way KZbin is designed those stats are also always in your face and it's hard not to think about them. I decided recently that I am only going to make the videos that I want to make, I removed KZbin Studio from my phone, and I'm ignoring everything else. I've been doing that since January and my videos are getting about half as many views as before, but I'm ok with that because I'm ultimately happier making the videos I want to make, rather than trying to optimize for the algorithm. I have faith that this will result in a more sustainable situation for me. Good luck with the channel! If you can manage to pull off weekly videos without getting burned out then that will be very impressive!

Never thought I’d see you here! Your Strong Towns series is one of the best things I’ve seen on this site. Glad to hear you’re taking a similar approach. It’s a little scary essentially turning your back on something that is so clearly meant to be gamified but like you it’ll help me continue doing what I want to do in a way that makes me comfortable and energized. Thanks for watching

Over the years my main reason to unsubscribe from a channel is when I start getting the feeling the KZbinr is trying to please the algorithm, rather than making videos with their hearts. Therefore, I am really happy to hear that you try not to fall into that trap. Sure, maybe at some point I'll get bored, and I'll move on, that's life, but as long you stay true to yourself it will be interesting for people to watch. Keep it real! And thanks for your vids; I've learned a ton here, and even when I didn't learn, I was intrigued, impressed & entertained by your skills.

I'm only one year into my KZbin journey but my goal was to make a channel that focused on creating and viewed gear as tools. Then I got burnt out recording and editing the videos, so I hired Schnoodle and he's helped me get back to enjoying the process. Capitalism and art are always at odds. Make great music and let the video be the byproduct.

Hell yeah! This is great news. I am so glad you are transitioning back to once a week without the extra. I totally relate to this video. I had a similar crossroads as an amateur producer. I felt all this pressure from online communities to pump out beats left and right while exploring different genres and techniques while I was learning how to make beats. That was definitely helpful for a time, but now that I've been making beats for 5+ years, I don't want to keep exploring different genres and banging out beats like i'm on an assembly line. I have been working on an instrumental album for nearly a year and only have 6 songs to show for it. You would think that would be a negative, but it's not. I LOVE these beats. I have given them the proper amount of time and attention to maximize them and nurture their growth. And they all have a similar vibe, which is exactly what I hear from my favorite producers. I found my sound finally. For that reason, I am happy that I tuned out the noise, and I am SO happy to hear you have done the same. Keep being great Jon! Thank you for your constant inspiration.

Jon! Thanks for the video. You inspired me to do something similar. I have a really small audience, but I face the same challenges as you. My show is called 'Vibe or No Vibe.' I used to make a beat every week without overthinking it, and people would leave a comment with 'Vibe' or 'No Vibe.' But after a while, I wanted to add something extra to the episodes. It was fun, but it was hard to do something 'special' every week, and it demotivated me. The number of viewers would sometimes be high and sometimes low, so it was frustrating not knowing what element made the video good. Now, I realize that all I want to do is make that 'Vibe or No Vibe' video every week without overthinking it. I really enjoy your content and wish you a lot of luck!

I've been through what Jon explained at 2:00 - 3:30, and it's not worth it. Remember, that you're making a musician first and content creation is a secondary thing. Also, having a core audience is everything. The audience you gain from people pleasing doesn't stay around for the longterm. Finally, the "do it for me" attitude is everything.

I sort of come and go from all channels I sub to depending on mood and so forth. I'm the definition of a frustrating subscriber from an analytics standpoint. That said, I'll watch your videos multiple times and, right now, they're literally helping me stay alive through a period of severe mental ill health. I'm frustrated on your behalf at how you need to "play the YT game". My favourite channels, however, are the ones that hide that or even don't do that and are just authentic, you have a core fan base and make fantastic videos and music. That IS enough, so your plan seems perfect. Keep on keeping on.

There was a purity behind this video and an acknowledgement of appreciation is needed, I first copped your videos maybe 8 months back at this point and have to say you've been the first "content creator" I've truly gravitated towards in the past few years. Fuck the gimmicks and thumbnails and all the rest, I know I can speak for a lot of people here when I say that if you started posting videos titled as the date you recorded it with a blank thumbnail we would be as invested as ever. You share wisdom beyond your years in your videos and never fail to impress with your music, ive rewatched your lifestreams multiple times and have even sat down with my notebook more than a handful of times taking notes and learning from you, trying to digest the subtle nuggets of genius you give us. You are both very mindful and layed back in how you present yourself and your work and when I sit down and tune in it feels like chilling with the lads and sharing moments, so for you to have created what you have, understand yourself well enough to make this video and hopefully pursue that, I thank you Jon It's easier said than done, and my advice won't mean diddly shit, but you'll only find fulfillment from within so you do you man and as long as you fuck with it, we fuck with it
