Christmas in history was 3 different pagan festivals, and had nothing to do with Jesus at all. It has been "repurposed" by the catholics mostly because of their st nicholas who was a catholic bishop who threw money into a few windows (his daughters finacees) for a very personal reason. This act was exaggerated and he became some mythical god that the world worships, anything to really avoid mentioning Jesus. The trees can be traced back to pre-1600 fertility festival from the norse pagans. This was celebrated Dec 25. Mistletoe also was included. Jesus was born in the spring, around march.

2 points here 1st, as a Christian I would like to let my Jewish friends know that the Catholic Church, which many of my own family memebers are part of, isn't a Christian entity. Historically they have not only persecuted Jews but also Christians who did not submit to popes and Catholic authorities. 2nd the pope has no sense of self criticism. When he, himself supported and was embedded with the military junta in Argentina when he was a bishop in Bs As, during the 70s and 80s. Under which many of my country men disappeared for ever, including babies. Happy hannukah to all of you.

Yes, Ruth, again i agree with you. I’m against making particular religious holidays universal to appease the atheists, the uclims, and other religions. Why would we always be afraid to offend them while they never give damn care about our feeling. They’re proud to scream the name of their god in public, and firmly announce the particular name of their holidays. Hanukkah is Hanukkah, Christmas is Christmas. As someone living in Western Australia, I perceive that attitude as dangerous. Israelis going from Perth to Jerusalem talk about it like it's Tel Aviv to, forgetting that all Jews are responsible for each other. The ant living in the next anthill might also think the next anthill, 50 meters away is on another planet.

The pope made a huge interview where he said that our brasilian president that was released from prison by a new law proposed from another president to protect his own son, is a good person and was wrongly condemned. It's a sad time in the world for the innocent civilians caught up in wars and disputes most especially children and babies REGARDLESS of which part of the world we are describing, there is evil, hatred, violence and destruction connected to all these wars and it is not wrong to talk about it, but it is niave to place blame on one side of the conflict, I have no wish to blame Israel or Ukraine for their participation in war and support their right to defend themselves against attacks from other countries and for their right to survive, but my heart is heavy for ALL children who have been killed, who are traumatised and homeless, who are hungry, who are orphaned through the decisions made by political leaders , I think that is the message The Pope was meaning to say , my love and belief in Jesus Christ keeps me from despairing at the terrible sadness and the state of the world, in his name I pray for peace .
