Part of Connery interview in Playboy November 1965 PLAYBOY: In any case, ''Dr. No'' turned out to be a hit, and you found yourself under contract for a series ... exactly what you said you wanted to avoid. CONNERY: Yes ... but it allows me to make other films, and I have only two more Bonds to do. PLAYBOY: Which ones? CONNERY: ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service'' and possibly ''You Only Live Twice''. They would like to start ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service'' in Switzerland in January (1966), but I'm not sure I'll be free in time and I don't want to rush it, although they say the snow will be at its best then. I'm not going to rush anything anymore. PLAYBOY: We'll be looking forward to both films ... especially since we were fortunate enough to serialize both books exclusively prior to their hardcover publication. Do you think the success of the series will continue to snowball? CONNERY: Well, it's a healthy market and it has been maintained because each succeeding film has got bigger and the gimmicks trickier. But we have to be careful where we go next, because I think with ''Thunderball'' we've reached the limit as far as size and gimmicks are concerned. In ''Thunderball'' we have Bond underwater for about 40 percent of the time, and there is a love scene underwater, and attacks by aquaparas from the sky, and two-man submarines under the sea, and Bond is menaced by sharks. Instead of the Aston Martin we have a hydrofoil disguised as a cabin cruiser, and Bond escapes with a self-propelling jet set attached to his back. So all the gimmicks now have been done. And they are expected. What is needed now is a change of course ... more attention to character and better dialogue.

A Christmas action classic
@midcoastJB0072 күн бұрын
Indeed! As a matter of fact, my father and I used to watch this movie regularly at Christmas time for a number of years. Nowadays, we usually have to plan ahead to watch it due the movie being close to three hours in running time. My father introduced me to the James Bond movies, and I have been a fan ever since. The score is just one of the many reasons that I enjoy this movie, along with the locations and Diana Rigg is one of my favorite Bond girls. One year for Christmas, I got the movie's soundtrack and then later I got the making of book, since I collect James Bond movie merchandise as a hobby. Additionally, I have a really great diecast toy version of the Aston Martin DBS driven by Bond as well.

I dont know much about James Bond are his films but used too always play the 007 Golden eye on Nintendo 64 Back in the day 97 to 2000 days. Sean Connery's all time favorite role I love is The Rock 1996 with Ed Harris and Michael Bien.

I love this one the more and more I rewatch it. Yes I know no time to die isn’t very popular around these parts lol, but it did take a lot of cues from on her majesty’s secret service which I appreciate but didn’t have the same impact with the ending.

3:47 That's exactly what was happening to Daniel Craig hench why after ''Spectre'' he would say in a interview ''That I rather break this wine glass and slice my own rist then play Bond in another film again''' 4:43 Moore was much,much better then Lazenby without a doubt. 6:48 I always remember getting a smile from that line he says. 10:20 Agreed bro! I remember watching some documentary that Lazeby's agent told him that ''Bond wouldn't survive the 70's'' boy was he dead wrong LOL! Awesome job on the review this film has it's moments with the action scenes especially Lazenby's fights looking that some power in his blows he gives oddly enough these days in interviews I've seen him in he sword of looks he could play the Dad of ''The Dolph'' IMHO.

It seems Lazenby's agent or someone said nobody will be watching Bond movies anymore, they are no longer hip, and hippie movies are what will be the big thing...hahaha! 9:44 Someone pointed out, in "You Only Live Twice", when they met, Bond was in Japanese-face; for story purposes, the prosthetics were a lot better than what the audience saw, so Blofeld couldn't recognize him. [The novel OHMSS takes place before YOLT.] 13:50 He is dubbed. 24:33 Yes, "For Your Eyes Only"; also referenced in "The Spy Who Loved Me". 25:28 He is the same Bond; it isn't until Craig when it's a different continuity. They say at the beginning Goldeneye, he is being evaluated by that girl to see if he is still fit to be in the Secret Service because he went rogue in "License To Kill", and also why the last M was replaced; “Your predecessor kept some cognac in-“

@silverwings21: Yes, it was Irish businessman/ radio host Ronan O'Rahlliy whom was George Lazenby's manager and advised him to leave the role of 007. O'Rahilly ran with the counterculture crowd and felt that antiestablishment movies like Easy Rider (1969) were the next big thing. Lazenby instead ended up appearing in B action movies and later the comedy The Kentuckey Friend Movie (1977), along with a few tv roles here and there. He even did voice over work later on.

Although Lazenby received much support from Broccoli and Saltzman, he had a less easy ride from the board of United Artists who were none too keen to see him take over the mantle of Bond. On 7 July 1968, test footage of Lazenby and Rigg had been sent to United Artists in New York - and the were less than impressed by what they saw. On 23 September 1968, UA's head man David Picker even flew into London, desperate to tempt Connery back into the fold. But Connery was adamant that he wasn't coming back - EON and UA had made him a star and Connery was now a major player, capable of picking only the roles that interested him. And at this moment, Bond simply didn't interest him at all. It was only reluctantly that UA accepted EON's recommendation that Lazenby be given the part (ΜΙ6 Production Notes - On Her Majesty's Secret Service)

I love this film 🙂 Great action an characters. Yes I even like George Lizenbee as James Bond. Even though he was only in 1 film this film. I still think he has the look an charm of Bond and he has a lot of heart. Blofield is great in this film even though it is stupid that he would recognise James Bond. I still like Blofelds performance. Donald Plesents was still the best as Blofeld. He was truly Excellent 🙂 I like all the James bond actors who have played Bond. The James score in this with all the music an heart with Lewis Armstrong was beautiful. The action is cool an it was Good fun 👍 🙂

Great movie, definitely one of my favorite Bond films. I didn't see this and two Timothy Dalton ones until much later in life. Thankfully when I finally watched them, all three were bangers. I like George Lazenby in the film, definitely the weakest Bond actor out there. I don't deny that. Tbh, for a guy with no acting experience minus commercials, I thought he was pretty good. The soundtrack by John Barry is amazing, Telly Savalas is definitely my favorite Blofeld.

Awesome Job Matt, Personally I could never get into The Roger Moore, Sean Connery, & George Lazenby just cuz I found the few Saw very Campy & Silly & Not my Cup of Tea, I didn't care for George Lazanby's Only Film he did On Our Majesty's Secret Service, but I Enjoy a Good chunk of Pierce Brosnan & Daniel Craig Bond Films I Love Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, & Quantum Of Solace are my Favorite James Bond Films IMO, I Like Skyfall, Spectre, & No Time To Die are Ok but Flawed Films & are my Least favorite Bond Films, I Never seen In The Living Daylights, but I do Love Timothy Dalton's License To Kill is 1 of my Favorite Bond Films Too, but I do Enjoy Sean Connery in Other Later Films like The Rock, Entrapment, League Of Extraordinary Gentleman, & The Untouchables though

The James Bond 007 is just a code name. 007 James Bond is just a code name so it's different people playing James Bond obviously. If James Bond was 32 when he began in Dr No as Sean Connery then when Daniel Criag died in No Time to Die then Daniel Craig would have died when he 91 years old in that film from 1962 Dr No to 2021 No Time to Die which is ridiculous when you think about it as he clearly isnt a 91 year old man in No Time to Die.

George Lazenby was stupid for not taking the role seriously but Daniel Craig's attitude towards Bond is just as bad. It felt like he resented the fact that most movies he was in that weren't 007 failed at the box office and didn't really get much acclaim or resonate with audiences. The thing is I actually liked his interpretation of James Bond but he was definitely not grateful for the role like Harrison Ford with Han Solo. I'll never understand it.

Good movie but bad actor for Bond. Wish it was still Sean Connery in this movie. George Lazenby was so bad they brought Sean Connery back for Diamonds are Forever
@ryanoneill31922 күн бұрын
That's actually not what happened. Lazenby was offered a multi-picture deal and, based on bad advice from his agent about Bond becoming less popular in the coming decade, turned down the offer to star in more films. He's definitely the weakest actor of the bunch, but was a good physical presence and did well in the fight scenes, plus had terrific chemistry with Diana Rigg.

George Lazenby was clearly miscast, he couldn’t act and he kinda looked like Mr.Bean to me. Connery should’ve come back for this one. To Lazenby’s credit, I find his story on how he got the role funny, he was also good in the action scenes and his relationship with Diana Rigg in the film was quite well done considering his limitations as an actor. But even the film overall is a bit dull, especially in the middle portion, it’s a visually ugly film also. Not one of my favourites but not an awful entry. Just kinda Meh for me, the ending was good though.
