If individuality is an illusion created by the mind, then who or what reincarnates?
Eckhart suggests that the answer to reincarnation can be found through observation. For example, you can observe reincarnation in yourself many times during the day when you identify with a thought. After all, the moment you completely associate your identity with the thought, you have forgotten your essential nature as consciousness and have incarnated into a thought form.

My neighbour had a kitten. He came to see us everyday and would play with me, I bonded with him and began to love him. 2 days ago he was out near the road and was killed by a car. It`s really torn me apart and I miss seeing his little face sitting on our wall. He was only nine months old. I have physical pain in my chest ( heart ache) and keep crying . Every time I watch one of Eckhart Tolle's videos I feel like I'm one of those people watching Jeopardy, screaming the answers at the TV lol. 7:09 I've always said that we're a dream of a higher consciousness, and that the meaning of this, and of life, is explained in a nursery rhyme: Row, row, row your boat. Gently down the stream. _Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily._ *Life is but a dream.* The "rowing" of your "boat" is your journey through life. Traveling gently down the stream, as opposed to trying to fight the current, which is futile. We often refuse to accept or confront something, especially when it is cruel and unfair. This leads to pain and suffering. Allowing things "to be," allows you to travel "gently down the stream" and to be at peace. The purpose of the journey is happiness, or to be "merry." Which requires gratitude. And lastly, corporeal life is a dream. Which is nearly self evident, when you consider that we are inseparable from "God" or "Source", therefore if we are not that highest state of consciousness we are a lesser, dream-like state of consciousness by comparison.

What I like most about Tolle, is his rare soft way of speaking. Especially the slow speed and the deliberately very long breaks. Those pleseant pauses, where you feel connected and consious, and really can let the underlying message sink in. Doesnt happen often in our lives. Especially not on TV, were people are talking as quickly as possibel, totally avoiding pauses, and often 4-5 people in the studio, shouting simultaniously, competing getting heard. In worst cases, the speak is overdubbed by loud nonsupporting noise, from machine music(Muzak). Am I just getting old and out of time, or does anyone else feel the same, listening to Eckhart?

Everytime you dream, every time you leave yourself driven my thoughts forgetting to be present, you are reincarning into something new, but if you cannot be free of your life situation (your context, that that keeps your trap in who you are) you stay in that reincarnation. You can also see it as "reinvent" yourself, and if you have doubts, simple think how different you were 15 years ago. Is that not some form of reincarnation? You being able to transform your habits and your form is a kind of reincarnation. Now, bring this to the level of being what is the different between being born then son of your parents and live for 90 years, or being the boyfriend of a girl for 3 years? Just a label, just a different level of abstraction separated for a different time-scale. Just do his meditation about space, or see a video of Alan Watts, Wim Hof, Joe Dispenza, there are many people pointing to the same answer using different paths/pointers. Just find that one that suits you more, and see how much we are addicted to our ego, habits, suffering. You already know the answer.

Good point made at the end there, was going to add it, but it was finally stated and explained well enough (was there really any doubt). It is in fact the basis of what Eckhart says over and over... and over again lol. That place, which isn't really a "place," the no-mind, the no emotion, non identifying existence where one can find many answers or all answers I should say. Always difficult to explain with language as words and terms have different meanings depending on one's understanding and experience. That place in the present, one has to experience it by stepping out of a personal identity of mind and emotion. I have been reading "The Power of Now" for a couple of weeks now, reading it slowly. The same point is being driven home over and over, which infers the importance of this message, this state of being.

And so we reside as a spirit there until we get pulled out of "retirement" for some new mission which requires us to incarnate. I was happy he was addressing it too (that question) but been disappointed he did not really answer it... not the way it was asked. I believe the Question meant: if there is only one consciousness or awareness, then it must mean we are no one and if we are no one then, no one can reinchilliconcarnate. Although Gothama Siddharta says he has had around 12000 reincarnations (It might no be the good number, but a lot of time and he remembered being a himself disciple of a Buddha). So clearly there are different flavors or colors or magical particules of awareness. The answer is Yes there are multiple essences of pure awareness which are unique and reincarnate. But difficult to explain and comprehend I guess...

The personality is related to the story you have told and developing, which was temporarely necessary to be able to fit in this perticular society, on this planet Gaia , in this perticular moment in “time,”.That personality is full of thoughtforms and beliefs gathered over the years in this lifetime by people, media, and many other places where people come together. It is just a construct of opinions that are mostly not even yours and by self inquiry you can start recognizing the mask that has been programmed. I feel that the individuality has to do with the lessons learned on a soullevel, purifying over a large number of incarnations, under many different circumstances and in many forms, and is therefor a unique kind of expression from each small part of conciousness within the total sum of conciousness. All is conciousness, concious or unconcious, form or formless, and when the soul has completed the lessons on one planet, there is an option to learn lessons on other planets, some much more concious, and therefor you can learn and expand wisdom on soullevel, which contributes to the sumtotal of experience of the Divine, getting to know itself, in many different variaties, though all part of the Divine, however each unique and valuable. Like the human body consists of cells, so also the whole Cosmos, each planet as a cell, and the sum total of the whole Cosmos, including space itself, is The Divine, which is limitless and of such a quality of loving energy that words could not describe the intensity and Greatness of that Love. However this is my humble point of view, at this current moment, in space and apparent “time”, on Gaia, trying to describe the seemingly indescribable...for as far It can be described at all in words in this temporary seemingly Human Form. Since all is energy and science has allready proven that...🙏

I’ve been reading Near Death Experiences for many years now from all over the world, all religions & all ages. A common experience after dying & going through the tunnel & meeting telepathic ‘light’ beings is a moment when spirits are shown their lives. They are filled with guilt. Most choose to come back bc ‘god’ (or someone) says their mission is not complete. But for the ones who refuse to feel guilt, the ones who absolutely do not want to come back, they are FORCED to come back against their will. Some even heard these light beings say, ‘I own the locks & I own the keys. Go back where you belong’. One person was aware of parallel lives, where the soul views their ‘worst’ life so the guilt will make them come back willingly. Although nearly everyone feels extreme peace & love, everyone who does not wish to come back are forcefully ‘pushed’ back. And anyone whose experienced childhood abuse & traumas know we live in a predatory universe. Yes, there’s joy but we have NO power here. Even Jesus said we could be as powerful as him if we follow his ways but no one is. We’re all powerless. And that’s what you get when you die, powerless to decide where we go.

Great question and sublime answer. My understanding at this time is to simply add that Universal Consciousness creates souls by implementing certain limitations upon itself in order to experience creation and to experience love. For God, there is no opposite so He only exists. But within opposites He experiences His love via each individual soul. The soul makes choices and is accountable for them. That causes karma which is experienced in each lifetime until the soul chooses to awaken and realize it is actually Universal Consciousness that expresses itself through this and every soul. The soul has a beginning and end and so once it gives up ego it no longer exists. That experience of the soul merging back into source is death of the soul and eternal life in God as God. It’s actually all very simple but our intellect prefers the more complex and the ego doesn’t want to die. But ego is the problem and the only problem.

What do u mean by soul? Are u speaking of the formless or the energy or light body structure? Formless has no beginning and no end. When u die here you will still be a you, jus not body you, you will still seem individual although in the light it's more a collective. My experience of the Essence is you as a point of Awareness within an infinity, no boundaries, only I Am and Bliss, although is an awesome experiencei wudnt want to stay forever, I want to experience, life is great whether in this reality or another, now maybe we move to a higher or even a future state of humanity but life is not done, u will experience somewhere again. Staying in that state, while blissful, I wud want to experience more and not stay within source forever. What I believe will happen is after the experience of the Essence, we come back with the connection to source, not as most here now are still searching. We wud live in a state of humanity that knows this connection and can experience it at any moment they choose. It will know its connection to all life. We will bring heaven to earth and our source does it thru Us. Soul to me is the formless Awareness we each are, some believe soul is the light when we die, but that's a part of mind and creation, what we are is beyond Creation, before creation, in the stillness before movement, before the word, before the AUM. Light is a vehicle for the formless, while essentially still being formless is a structure for the formless or Soul...which to me is a individualized portion of spirit or god, the Essence, etc its the I Am, in this we are created in the image of our source 🙏💙 💙🙏

alpha omega - very kind of you to say so. I like Eckhart very much, his teachings are very clear and true. Instead of looking for more teachings, I encourage you to sit every day for meditation and practice “presence” during your daily activities. I use Eckhart’s guided meditation daily. What is happening for me is that my aura is expanding more and more. Like a balloon that grows and expands gradually as it expands into the infinite universe of the subtle world one day the balloon will burst and only the infinite remains.

This is my particular area of specialty. I think this is the kind of answer which proceeds from a philosophical study of ultimate truths understood intellectually and second-hand from those who have experienced them directly. But it skips over the realm between the physical and the ultimate, and in this way it doesn't answer the question. Sri Ramana Maharshi might answer this question from the higher perspective out of his own direct experience. But if I were asked this question, having studied reincarnation for over 45 years, I would say it is the energy body (variously called subtle or astral) which reincarnates, or associates itself with a new physical body. From the higher perspective, the physical body, the energy body, and the mind are all illustory--we know this because, and *only* because, those masters who have epxerienced it directly, tell us so. But the correct answer for a *philosopher* is not to go directly to the cosmic level, but to specifically and accurately answer the question.

@Price Check On VagiClean I know what you mean. Forgiveness here is not what we use in everyday life. Means donot hold a negative emotional bond between yourself and someone else if you do not wish to encounter similar experiences. I forgive people since I realise NOW somehow I attracted them into my life and release them from my life (even very close people), from outside people think if I forgive them, it means I should continue as before with them and to them it seems very unforgiving. I have enough experience to know I can not expect anyone to change. I am the one person responsible to what happens to me.

I would say, no, there is no secular interpretation of samsara. And I would say no buddhist would buy this as an interpretation of rebirth because the concept is very specific to them. It's not just a word that sounds sort of like another word. Reborn is pretty dramatic language for re-membering that we are consciousness and it is consciousness which is witness to our thoughts. It's just shifting awareness from the finite to the infinite or from the name and form to the ground state. I didn't think this was his best work by far.. On the other hand one could have some fun with the "born-again" expression if having a sense of humor was allowed by the fascist state we live in now. But since we can't, I won't. Namaste and good luck on your spiritual path.

He didn't answer the question directly, but indirectly, which is sometimes easier to accept, as the listener can process this in a way they can best understand. My answer is that consciousness (Soul) reincarnates for the purpose of learning about itself - Self Realization. Without the fleshly body, or the emotional/mental bodies, for that matter, we gain no experience. Also, those who are more awakened, like Eckhart, come back to show the way as a teacher of other Souls. With each incarnation we also contribute to the expansion of the universal consciousness, or God, if you will...
