@RigidMajesty Жыл бұрын
Even though you commented years ago, I want to agree with you. Every author needs to start somewhere, and this seems like an incredibly strong start. Even if it had a few hiccups, it still had a story that kept me intrigued and wanting more. Everything else can come with time
@nathangaspacio61287 ай бұрын
@@RigidMajesty Honestly it was pretty good to me the main thing they need to work on is ending the stories. There was not really much payoff. Edit: Also, a big part of rules videos is that the rules are mysterious in origin so the witch backstory reduces the intrigue
@RigidMajesty7 ай бұрын
@@nathangaspacio6128 Completely understand why you think that! It's been a year since I've watched this video, so my memory might be a bit hazy, but I personally feel like the rules having an origin was actually one of the highlights. Having reasons for why things happen in a horror story seems like the best way to do it, despite killing some of the mystery. It adds to the realism for me, instead of just being like "ooOoOo Spooky ghost did things!" So yeah, a more experienced author could have probably woven the origin story of the curse into the actual horror better, but I think this author hit most of the nails on the head, generally. I can't exactly remember the ending, but I'll take your word on it being underwhelming. That tends to happen a lot with stories like these haha

Story Update: The thief in this story is actually MARTY MCFLY who, along with Doc Brown, accidently traveled from *1985* to *1585*. While there, he taught his 16th century homies how to speak in modern english slang. Marty only broke into the old woman's house because she possessed a sacred stone that could be used to power the Delorean, in place of the flux capacitor. Hopefully Marty can get the Witch to remove the curse so that he can rescue the storyteller from this alternative reality.
@Gnostic883 жыл бұрын
I gotta say, there were quite a few inconsistencies in this story. This supposedly all started in the 1500's but the list is telling him to only drink "tapwater"... And his dad is using slang when using the dialogue of the story of the original thief but goes out of his way to say it was close to the original dialogue. "Dood she's a witch.". Buying a house before 20 from "working jobs when I could." CAMMMONNNNNNNNNNNNN. I normally don't leave comments like this, but this stuff really vexed me because they were so easy to actually spot.

Well I mean it’s still a good story so just suspend disbelief. But if you want to get down to it. His dad said it was basically the same dialogue that’s been passed down not the exact dialouge and the witch just cursed them to have a set of rules to make sure he’s responsible. The things you would need to do to be responsible may change throughout the ages so it makes sense that the list would then include tap water.
@Gnostic883 жыл бұрын
@@SnazzySMM 1. Well I could have bought that, but it was heavily implied the list has remained consistent since the 1500's. 2. I could have bought that too, but then his dad went out of his way to explain that it was the exact dialogue. Of course stuff said 100's of years ago would change with retellings, but idk. That bothered me less than the tap water and him buying a house before 20 by saving up from various par-time jobs.

[Best extension to write horror based off the title i could do] It's strange, the book only had 1 rule. After my parents gave me the book of rules they kept talking about it, as if they're was more to it. I decided to hide behind the stairs and listen to their later conversation about the book, I could hear them talking about some paper and my own safety "he's our only kid" I could hear them say however I can't recall specifics. Finally, after listening on them, I decided to go to my room and read the book of rules, strangely it looked like possibly the smallest book I've seen consisting of only two pages, I opened the cover and read "if you're reading this your life is about to get much more difficult unfortunately. Follow these rules and it might just get easier". I was shocked to turn to the second and final page, with only 5 words it left me terrified. "Stay away from your uncle".

That's rough, I would like to think there's a difference between breaking the rules out of spite or rebellion that would net you a dire consequence. But breaking the rule, 1 time, in a honest mistake mistake, should have netted him a lesser fixable consequence just to remind him to not faulter lol also, the witch seems super petty. She not only killed the thief, but also his friends and store owner who had nothing to do with the stolen goods, and she also got all her stuff back, while additionally cursed the whole blood line. Talk about over kill vengeance

Rules: 1) leave all the windows open from the time you leave your house to the time you return 2) people will call you throughout the day, do not respond to those calls, if you do, run to a building and stay there for five minutes 3) every day at 2pm you will have to go to the street and toss a coin at the man in the corner, he'll always be there, don't ever talk to him 4) if in the middle of the day the sun shines, say "oh lord, thank you for the light" 5) you must come home every day before 8pm, if you notice a weird smell, go to the bathroom, look in the mirror and say "you are non welcomed, leave" then close the windows as quickly as possible, if the smell is not present just close all the windows 6) don't eat amything after 9 pm, you can only drink tab water until 6am 7)if you wake up in the middle of the night and see a shadow in your room, close your eyes until you feel the present left and then go back to sleep 8) when you wake up in the morning make sure there's nothing wrong in the room, if there is, fix it before doing anything else

@Caramel Cupcake Honestly, I think the writer just forgot about some of the rules he wrote because some of them just felt like filler. Especially when the main character only started hearing sounds AFTER he finally broke a rule, which the rule never stated it needed to be done for the specific rule to occur.

Maybe this is a bit of a reach, but I think the coin they have to give the old man pays back the debt their ancestor accumulated. Maybe the curse would stop once they fully pay back their debt. Also I think the curse might have been tailor-made to get payback for what their ancestor did. For example, rule 1 is payback for the little thief who probably took advantage of open windows. Rule 2 may hint at him being a pickpocket and maybe using distractions to better steal from his victims. Rule 3, again, might be about paying back his debt. Rule 4 is about being home at night, which is probably when he preferred going out to steal. Rule 5 is about not being welcome in the house, just like a burglar would. Rule 7 maybe refers to him sneaking into people's homes. Rule 8 is about checking if things are out of place, just like the victim of a burglary would.
