Love the podcast. My grandfather’s favorite caliber was the .270 win. I don’t know how many elk, deer, pronghorn he has taken with along with caribou, dall sheep, mountain goat and a moose with his. He is the reason I have one today. You have me thinking about the Weatherby.270 mag now.

Glad to see others are suggesting updating the twist on the 270 Wby to a 1 in 8 twist. It has the case capacity to send those 165-175 gr bullets fast. Even though I have 270 Wby dies I went with the 6.8 Western to be able to shoot those heavier bullets. If you update the twist like you did with the 240 Wby I would add one for sure. A 270 RPM would be even better, could do everything "right" from the beginning ;)

Yes, that was why I prefer 6.5x55 over 270 win because it can handle the heavier bullets like 160gr.

Make it a 1 in 8 or 1 in 9 twist. 26 inch barrel. 124 gr hammer. 😊

I have shot a 270 FN Weatherby built in 1952 starting in the late 1960s, and have killed numerous elk, two Caribou and four Prong horn antelope. I own several other Weatherby rifles including a Backcountry 2.0 in 257 Weatherby, I am debating on which one to take on a New Mexico Antelope hunt this fall, the 270 is ahead after this pod cast.😊 Thanks for, and keep up the good work!

Recently acquired my first WBY rifle. Lefty MK V (J.A.Pan and sons) Had to be in 270WBY, its a plank owner cartridge and a ballistic titan. Can't wait to spill blood with it.

I love my 270 WBY Mag. IT’s favorite round is 150g Nosler Partition. Very accurate and powerful.

I recently acquired a Mark V Bronze Weatherguard in 270 Weatherby I've been able to take it hunting twice now it is fast becoming my favorite.

I'm a fan because I have one. However, there is no reason not to fast twist all new 270 Weatherby Mag rifles, 1:9 or 1:8.5 should stabilize the long heavy bullets. This would allow the hand loaders a factory 270 Weatherby Mag without having to rebarrel. Otherwise I choose something like 7 PRC.

Awesome cartridge!! 130 with IMR7828 SSC bumps 3,500. Tough to find. The 150 Accubond at 3,200 does a wonderful job on elk. I own 9 different Weatherby Cartridges (240, 257, 6.5X300, 270, 7mm, 300, 340, & 378). This is a versatile cartridge with manageable recoil. Stop worrying about twist. There are plenty of good bullets that get the job done. If you are a Reloader, give the 136 Federal Terminal Ascent a try. Super tough bullet with a .493 BC. The 7mm is a hidden gem as well. When loaded to its full potential with some of the new powders it can turn in spectacular performance. The neck and case design allows it to handle the 175’s really well. I load 155 Federal Terminal Ascent with RL 26 at 3,300 FPS. BC is .586. Recoil is manageable. My 12 1/2 year old granddaughter took a nice 320 bull with it at 375 yards last year. Dropped him on the 1st shot.

I wish they would have came out with the 6.5 on the 2.540 inch case I have built a few of them and they hang right with the 26 nosler but burning 10% less powder and get away from the long freebore the 2.540 inch case that Weatherby has is the most efficient case the 7mm wby hangs with the big dogs also just run fast twist barrels

As great as the 270wby mag is now it would be a much better cartridge and stay relevant in today's market with a faster twist barrel to allow for the longer, heavier bullets now offered. It's simple math!!!

I've shot moose stem to stern with 270 weatherby mag 140accubond bullet under the skin opposite side rear quarter couldn't ask for a better cartridge !!!

I barreled my 1978, Mark V 270 Mag with a Shilen 1:8 twist tube so I could shoot the 170 grain Bergers. Great bullet, but I've found, in my experience, the heavyweight bullets with their higher G7 BC's are not worth the tiny advantage they provide beyond 600 yards. I've since gone back to the flawless performance of the 150 Partition. I've harvested every North American big game species (including 5 bull moose) except brown bear and polar bear, as well as 80% of African plains game with this rifle and the 150's. My favorite cartridge by a long shot. When I go for the big critters, I rely on my 340 Wby Mag, my second favorite cartridge. Neither have ever let me down.

:61 minute mark and whilst I appreciate warming up (I taught University courses from 1975 - 2012) I allowed myself 2-4 minutes to warm up a group of 90 high-energy students to settle in and get to the business at hand. Weatherby has been a part of my extended family rifles for decades, but gee wizz...6+ minutes of warm up? I'll have to pass on your podcasts. I'm sure your content is stellar later on.

The 270Wby is an awesome cartridge no doubt, it may be my pick of "you can only have one" choice. However, why no mention of the 270 WSM which is right on it's heels? Also, there's the 27 Nosler that is faster.

Offer tighter twist rates for heavier bullets. Nosler makes a 160gr Partition that would be a great factory load. Happy Huntin Fellas.

Love the talk about the 270wby. It doesnt get bear the respect it should. My problem is I've gifted mine away and you guys dont hardly chamber them anymore. I was all ready to buy the backcountry carbon barreled model and was told no can do. The 270wby should be available in every model weatherby makes. Please correct this.

The .270 Wby Mag is as underrated as the 7mm Wby Mag. Both slightly outperform the .270 WSM, Which in my opinion is a better hunting cartrdige than the 6.8 Western, and the 7mm Rem Mag. However, due to the current trend is for high b.c bullets, maybe you should think about designing a sort of 6.8-300 Wby Mag, using a 1:8 twist, which would give the best of both worlds, while maintaining the essence of a weatherby cartridge.

It’s so hard to find 270 Weatherby Mag in stock anywhere besides 130 interlock. I’ve looked at dozens of sites and called a dozen local places and finally found some 130 ttsx locally (1 hr drive)… any projections on when more 270 weatherby magnum will be made? Is it simply supply issues? Or do I need to look at sites early morning? I’ve spent hours

The MARK V has the strongest bolt that is made of any gun.

I have one in the mail,.... an Accumark Bronze Sporter 270 WBY, Serial number - wyo16113 , it has a walnut stock and a #2 contuer barrel, LXX trigger, aluminum bedding, fluted bolt, but not a fluted barrel. Is this an actual Accumark? I am wondering because I have never seen an Accumark with a walnut stock and a #2 barrel.

Actually the .277 is a 7mm. The Bore diameter is 6.8mm not the bullet.
