religious Zionism has nothing to do with changing Judaism & this might be one of the biggest reasons for confusion. the answer given is brilliant.

Interesting to hear and learn more regarding the various perspectives on 'zionism'.

Which commentary learns "Memlechet Kohanim" like the Rav does? I couldn't find one.

We have to be a light to the nations, and a kingdom of priests. We must also proclaim the Torah, and Emet at all times regardless of the consequences.

I wish that Rav Bar-Hayim would answer the other Rav about the statement of "Rabbi Akiva had a bet...."

With all do respect, I suggest that the rabbi read more carefully Devarim perek shloshim. The Torah is clear here - repentance and a return to Torah practice precedes return to the land. I am not anti-Zionist, but the Rabbi is focussing on one idea in the Torah to the exclusion of others. This is a gross simplification and ignores clear halachic opinions to the contrary of his.

Hey there, from what I understood, the rabbi's main point was that in order for the Torah to be followed in totality, Jews need to live in Israel, and therefore living in Israel is something that should be strived towards. I would say that his words don't contradict Devarim 30, since he never said that living in Eretz Israel would bring the full redemption. It's also not a gross simplification, since he's just stating his opinion. It's not his goal to address every possible perspective.

With all due respect, you are interpreting ממלכה literally as a state; but that can't be because it is part of the expression ממלכת כהנים and certainly you don't translate that literally: that everyone is to be a kohen or priest or that Israel is to be a nation of descendants of Aaron. You take part of an expression and translate it literally and part figuratively. If you want to translate the entire expression literally, that all children of Israel are to be Cohenim, that is obviously meant for the time of Moshiach.

You are the mistaken one! The word "cohen" does not LITERALLY mean preist! It means "servant"! Mamlechet Cohanim means a nation that serves! In our understanding, we "serve", the rest of humanity, by acting as an example of Godliness...

*_..."Zionism"-albeit symbolic by David's Mt. Zion, rather than Mt. Pisgah-was established by Egyptian Prince Moses acting on behalf the first-lineage seniors remaining in Egypt, as the Abrahamic homeland for the general exodus-outflow 12-tribe-spread of Hebrew-Jews returning to retake Canaan's mis-taken, leaving Egypt under the rule of the most-seniors..._*

"For those who dare to think" These disingenuous Dati-Leumi types are so full of crap. I remember learning (or what passes for learning) at Machon Meir, where the R''Y would pretend to be a kohen, even though he knew he was not one due to a genetic test. All the while, the yeshiva was involved with these leaflets that had stuff about why a person should always stay away from liars. What a crock!
