A beautiful song indeed ...but nothing to do with the sun! The first line -- On suuri sun rantas autius, sitä sentään ikävöin -- has been rendered into English in one version as "Though vast and lonely are your shores, I wish I could be there". It is a poem about loss and the loneliness that follows separation, symbolized by the wailing cry of a wild bird in the reeds.

To appreciate the sad and the beautiful doesn't mean abandoning innocence! What a weird idea. Young choirs (British in my case) sing this sort of thing so well.
