For fear of embarrassing myself, I would just like to comment. Your commentary is, as always like a good old favourite book. I could listen to your commentaries for hours because each time, I learn something. I have always had a soft spot for the 2 MTs. I can remember layouts being described in the Railway Modeller ca. 1977, and seeing the Hornby 2MT then doing its job in green or black livery. Nowadays however, for right or wrong I have moved on, live steam is the order of the day but in gauge 1 or even driving the real thing. But, when I look at this model, I think Hornby have really cracked it. It’s a stunning model. Great video, and best regards from Germany!

I love the shot where the 2MT pulls in to the platform. That looks fantastic.

I was not expecting an ASMR tingle from a review of a model train engine, but pleased for the freebie all the same.

A splendid model, very detailed and runs at a very realistic speed due to low gearing. I've had no issues at all, solid build.

Thanks for a good review that didn't last over an hour. All beautifully said in three minutes.

Thanks for the review. The remarks from owners is telling. It looks absolutely right, and very detailed, but at about $NZ500.00 I wouldn’t buy it. That goes for recent prices in general, so I have stopped buying locomotives until I win Lotto!

Thank you for your review Tony, appreciated. You make it sound almost too fragile... I have three in green and would agree with you in that they are prone to *bits* falling-off. That said, I got fed-up with pipes falling-off the temperamental Accurascale Manor and Dapol is the shade of green that I find a tad too difficult to accept, albeit the fact that it is a far superior runner which is due to it having a 5-pole motor.

Yes, I bought the members green version, very nice, but, fragile hardly sums it up. Out of the box the front buffers were off and lying in the box, first job, glue them back in,next running in, Oh! Dear, the bolt fixing the driving rod to the front driving wheels came undone, this completely wrecked the the tiny valve gear and everything came out of the piston housing on the right side. I found a piece of packing lying by the line which I mistakenly thought had been left in the loco, but no, it was the bolt ,very hard to see as it is obscured by the valve gear. I did after a while get it all back together after straightening everything that was bent. However the link from the second driving wheel was detached from the top, also a few bits of “bling” like copper pipes came off. That linkage had to be removed before I could run the loco again. Putting the bolt back in the second run lasted half a minute before it did exactly the same again. Nothing daunted, the warranty was completely stuffed, I repeated the excecise, this time I added a little glue to keep the valve gear from coming out of the piston housing. This time a wire detached itself from the tender plug. Off we went again but it came to a abrupt halt, reacting swiftly cutting the power, horror, the left hand bolt in the front driving wheel had come partly out jamming all of the gear from the piston housing. Very carefully tightening it up and checking all the other bolts, it runs again. I have contacted Hornby asking if I could buy the running gear part of the engine, but the response is I have to send it back where they say they will attempt to repair it. I’m just waiting for instructions on how to return the loco, I live in France so that adds to the stress level. My advice to you and anyone else is,CHECK THE TIGHTNESS OF THE CONNECTING ROD BOLTS before you do anything else. Lastly, the coupling is faulty and keeps coming apart. Thanks for reading.

Stunning model, yes the prototype has a weird kind of prettiness about it. My question? How long will a chassis and running gear last, compared to Eg a brass/NS chassis and running gear🤔🤔

Strangely HO/00 models where I live commonly cost twice or three times that amount. Modellers in the uk often complain about prices without perhaps realising that the models offered, are among the cheapest in Europe.

This loco shows that Hornby have upped their game. While it is good that someone who knows modelling as well as you reviews new products I would like to see how locos perform on the sort of model railway that many hobbyists have, that is with unprototypically tight curves and fierce gradients. Could you not build a "Teeny-tiny Bytham" for such a purpose?
