ok.. here comes a huge compliment.. i have been doing this pass for years.. i'm an old guy. lets say.. 30ish years that i have been doing this pass or the cover pass. other magicians and burners have caught me several times. in short, i sucked at doing this pass. i only did a few card tricks so i got away with mainly doing the hindu shuffle and the herman cover pass. that is, until i watched this video. pushing the bottom against the thumb and using it as leverage is the key. i don't know why but i never was taught that and i never thought of doing it myself. so you can probably imagine how much my fingers moved. i mean it was abyssimal. i live on the west coast and i'm pretty sure someone in NY could see me flash my pass from here. Also, thanks for not showing off so much. showing off is good, but not during a tut. seriously brotha, i'm pretty sure you just saved me from myself.. lol.

I'm learning the classic pass and have watched a few tutorials. This is by far the best tutorial on the classic pass that I've encountered. Helped me a lot, thanks!
@wizardwillbonner2 жыл бұрын
As I'm sure it's been stated before, great tutorial! I've watched way too many tutorials on this and never felt confident on what I was doing. For instance no one else said a single word about pushing the bottom pack against the thumb. That little move is giving me the clearance to rotate the top pack down. My left hand has been injured, even though everything works, great dexterity I lack. I'm working on ' loosing things up' by doing card effects. Your little gimmick of splaying the deck to cover the gap is exactly what I needed. I know this video is 2 yrs old and I'm not even sure you'll read this, but thank you for sharing your skills.

Card in the middle - pass Card to top - riffle shuffle Card still on top. Card in the middle - riffle shuffle Card to top I personaly dont like to execute a Pass and shuffle afterwards one time. Makes the pass to be a move which is not necessary. But still very nice video and usefull tips. Love to do the pass ;) Thx a lot.

I literally just came across this video as I was looking for something to help me with my classic pass. I have been subscribed to Rise for a bit, but always ended up watching cardistry videos. I have been trying to get this pass for about two months, and this video is AWESOME!!. My pass is better after only about 10 minutes. Thank you so much! I know it's been a year since you posted, but great tutorial and troubleshooting.

One thing also to note about doing the pass, whether it’s the xlassjc or herman pass, is after you’ve done it you should not be suspicious or nervous. Because if you keep eye contact and have a somewhat decent pass, people don’t knkw you’ve done it. Don’t run if you’re not being chased, act cool about it! And, even if people do notice, the rest of the trick should be good enough for them to not be able to figure the whole trick out. Just because they know a tiny bit of tvs secret, doesn’t mean they know the whole trick or routine. When starting our, do it in low risk performances where it doesn’t matter if you’re caught, and if you’re fully confident, just do a different control. I’ve been doing magic for 7 years and I still find that double undercutting a card to the the top or bottom is still able to fool people. The pass is definitely the best way to control a card, but it ford gets mean that it’s the only way to control a card.

Hello Rise Magic! Great video. When I saw "in depth" about the pass, that's when I knew I had to watch! :) I like your method of executing it immediately when close the cards up. What do you do about your left hand pointer finger? I find that mine flares out sometimes while doing the move.... do you think it's worth focusing on minimizing this, or it's not important? Also, what about if you see kinda of a flinching movement with either left hand or right hand? Big deal? Or just use more talking / eye contact / misdirection?
@chandler_henry5 жыл бұрын
idealing over time you can minimize those things but you should be completely fine if you don't

After you do the pass why do you shuffle? You could shuffle to top and not do a pass. Or pass to top so people believe the card is in middle
@chandler_henry5 жыл бұрын
I'm not really sure I understand what you're asking, I shuffle so the spectator thinks that card is truly lost anywhere
@MsSuper11215 жыл бұрын
11:30 You have wasted the Pass when you did the riffle shuffle. You can just cut at the break and do a riffle shuffle to bring the card to top. Or, just do a pass with misdirection so they still think the card is in the middle of the deck. This is not a negative comment, but to tell you something that you might not think of.
@ChildishGriffin5 жыл бұрын
If you’re going to follow it up with a riffle shuffle, why use the pass at all? You can control it to the top using a false shuffle (Hindu, overhand, etc). The beauty of the pass is that the spectator believes it’s where he put the card in the middle, not shuffled and potentially somewhere else

Nice tutorial, but I don't think you should go into any sort of shuffle after a move like the pass. Kind of defeats the purpose when you could just control the card directly with a riffle shuffle but much easier than a pass
