we sailed away one summers day
aboard the good ship Sydney
A captain bold with a heart of gold
and a crew of the self same kidney
he called us aft and then said he
a wars declared on Germany
and we must keep the oceans free
with the guns of the good ship Sydney
and where the sky and sea just meet
we saw the pride of the pirate fleet
and fired a shell his crew to greet
from the guns of the good ship Sydney
Von Muller cried with a boastful sneer
if that's the Sydney, I've no fear
so he gave his word the decks to clear
and blazed at the good ship Sydney
each man of ours was at his post
and laughed at the Emden captains boast
we smashed his ship on the Cocos COast
with the guns of the Good Ship Sydney
there's just one other thing to tell
we got the guns and the Emden's bell
and the pirate crew were sent to hell
by the guns of the good ship Sydney
