The ‘89 W900L from the 007 movies was indeed a limited edition. It was actually called the… wait for it… “007 Limited Edition”. Should’ve had a decal above the Kenworth emblem on the sleeper. Think they even had a commemorative dash plaque. Killer find!

I kind of figured you'd go from being the Snowman to being the Rubber Duck... From the Snowman Tribute truck to a 1977 Mack RS712LST from the movie Convoy. A lot of cool looking trucks up there, I find it amazing what they go for at auction, some of sound cheap while others sound more expensive than they should be, but I don't know much about them so. Take care.

I laugh at how people try to roll miles back on vehicles without taking into consideration all of the little subtle signs of the true mileage.
@carlcarlamos9055 Жыл бұрын
A simple exercise is take a calculator or pencil and paper and divide the claimed miles by how many years old the truck is. It’s amazing how often you find yourself wondering “how did they pay for the truck?”. Trucking is part driving, and part business, so you better be able to do both if you don’t want to get skinned. Take care.

I have an 88 Flc with 501,000 one owner original miles I made the mistake of not recording mileage before going to notary the state claims less than what the notary was entering in state system. Had no choice but to claim exempt miles. Now I have no proof bummer 😢lol
@ChrisHarding-lk3jj11 ай бұрын
@@FREIGHT_SHAKER My friend purchased a really clean 02 7.3 powerjoke a couple of years ago and it had just over 600,000 miles on it and when he registered it he switched the title to tmu which stand's for (true mileage unknown) and he would let buyers decide how many miles they thought were on the vehicle. If I remember correctly he sold the truck for around $15,000 and he purchased it for $4500 and he didn't do anything but switch the title to true mileage unknown.

Mark, the 8 speed in that old Pacific is an 8LL. The blue splitter button on the side puts it into a low, low, deep reduction range. A lot of dump trucks here in the states have those transmissions in them. Makes it easier when hauling a heavy load off road. Helps with traction control so that you don't tear your rears up.

That T279 with the Schwabe conversion had the 5th wheel camper setup so it can move with the camper and not crack the frame. Another issue with the electric trucks will be fires. The EV car fires have destroyed two car ferries and a few parking garages one with 1600 cars destroyed from a Range Rover hybrid bursting in flames. It is not covered in the news but even the newest tech batteries will go into thermal run away and they create oxygen as they burn so it is hard to put them out. The fumes that come off them are poisonous,. There needs to be better training for drivers if the car starts on fire and for the fire brigade that need to put out the fire. A semi EV will have a much larger battery than a car so it will be a massive fire when they go up.

First again! Automatic transmissions in heavy trucks, same as what happened with cars and pickup trucks, are becoming far more common. Yesterday I saw a dump truck set up for over-weight hauling, it had an automatic transmission.
@carlcarlamos9055 Жыл бұрын
Automatics have had a significant presence in prime movers and crane carriers and other very heavy vehicles since the sixties and seventies. This is for control and to free up the drivers attention, because there are many more focal points. Look at Morgan’s post at all the gear choices he had with his rig. You don’t learn to do that in one day. Opportunities to learn are fewer and far between these days, often with an up front cost in dollars and of poorer quality learning. The days of going to school in someone’s place a couple days, and coming away with an education are long gone. Take care.

Hey Mark, just thinking about what you said about the electric trucks and in this old dog's opinion, we are a far ways to go yet before we are ready to go electric. Hybrid maybe, but not fully electric.. I'm from New Zealand and we have several fully electric trucks over here already, but they are mostly for show and mostly only work around towns, nothing really for long haul, especially with our mountainous roads! We had one running for fonterra as a milk tanker, that I had heard about which seems to be the perfect example of what I mean.. It's an 8x4 cabover with a tank on back pulling a 4 axle dog trailer for a total of about 42-44 ton fully loaded with about 24K litres of milk. The battery is about the size of a coffin sleeper behind the cab and gives about 8 hours with no load, about a third to a half of that with one, but takes a little over 3hrs to recharge and about the same to swap out for a new one. Given how our tankers run, For a t2hr shift and three to four runs out and back from the factory, it serves little more than a publicity stunt at this point.

About six years ago they tried out electric buses in Anchorage, Alaska. As far as riding on the electric bus or the internal combustion engine buses, it was six of one, half dozen of the other. As far as logistics and maintenance went, I don’t know. They ended up not adapting them at the time. Anchorage had a seriously good bus service at the time, but I don’t know if that’s still the case because they were always messing with it. Take care over there on the other side of the world.
@themercoctavius Жыл бұрын
@@carlcarlamos9055 Yeah we have electric buses all over the place and they seem to wirk pretty well, but again, they generally only stay in the confines of the city they work in, there aren't any that go inter-city. Thanks for the well wishes, appreciate it.

Those Freightliner classic XL's remind me of my assigned truck back in 2004-2005, a yellow classic tractor with a big Dome top sleeper practically an apartment room for me at 5 foot 6. It had a sweet and powerful series 60 Detroit that made 80 feel like 60 miles an hour. I almost bought the truck before fuel went up back then to $3 a gallon. I can't count how many times I knocked my hip against the corner of the very helpful wrap around dashboard that can be very painful trying to move around in the cab.

I appreciate the fact that us old guys no longer able to drive can still see our old toys. Almost mistress to a guy like myself as she was all I had to remember those first days we were married, I taught my wife to drive one on a 84 W 900 metal flake dark gun metal grey with red pin stripping and some black lace... big cam 2 and ran a thirteen and air shift four brownie with a decent overdrive, and best of all it had the 3.55 high and 4.?? in the low holes with a 265" wheelbase and a air mid steer lift axle. It had a day cabin and could be set up for a sleeper..... I was logging at that time mostly so when doing a occasional run in the winter months to california, I had to go outside and get into a decent sleeper. I wanted that extra room for the truck and pup setup plus the tailend self loader. I just wish my buddy who had the albums of it with different set ups.... his girlfriend thought the pictures inside of it was a previous girlfriend of his and burnt my albums. We parted friendships over that!! It was my second first new truck but this one wasn't a glider but built for me. My seventy pete was a glider that was a log truck.. butterfly hood..... ha ha, twenty inch rims!! At the time there in seventy, I thought those were large wheels... I particularly remember painting the rims silver and keeping them polished for a fake looking chrome look going down the road.
