I wonder if that the fact that what these people in France are doing is working, points to the possibility that the problem is caused by brain damage and not necessarily damage to the olfactory nerve because I don't see how you could reverse the effects if a nerve is taken out, but the brain is flexible and can relearn.

Distorted sense of taste has been a serious issue have been facing for the past few months. The smell he is describing is NOT cigarettes. Its his own mouth smell and inside of the nose smell. This is all i smelled when i first got covid. It is a gross smell. Something to do with not being able to have range so it only picks up the closest smells..right on the surface of the inside of the nose and mouth. Have to do some deep cleaning. It still takes time
