have your sense of taste and smell come back?
@warriorzentennis2 жыл бұрын
I have dealt with my loss of smell in two batches...one for six months and the other for five months. I know how depressing it can be to endure the loss of one of your senses. My best advice is to remain patient. My loss of smell was tied to allergies and inflammation as well so although my nerves were repairing, the odorant molecules could not make it to where they needed to go due to being blocked on the way. I have since recovered my sense of smell and I can honestly say I will never take it for granted again. Don't let your mind bring you down when you go day after day being let down that you can't smell the things you once enjoyed. Just like working out, your sense doesn't come back or improve immediately. Everything is a gradual process. Follow the instructions from your doctor and eventually you will start to notice a small scent, then those moments will become more frequent until one day you wake up and realize you can smell coffee and the world around you. Keep focused on healing and healing will come.

I first tried to smell an alcohol, then I CAN smell it finally. I couldn't believe it so I tried with a lotion, tooth paste, soap, even feminine wash and ketchup😭 And I can smell all of that. I lost my sense of smell completely on April 30th while battling Covid. Basically I couldn't smell anything. Zero Scent. No matter how hard I breathe in or put something close to my nose.. nothing. This obviously made everything I tasted become bland or horrible. I decided to pick 4 things to smell for the week - 2 scents I hate, and 2 I love. Every day I would smell these 4 things multiple times throughout the day. Finally today on May 5th, I am starting to smell again. One of the scents I hate was the one I smelled first. And shortly after, started to smell the rest of the scents. In case anyone is wondering - the 4 scents were: Rubbing Alcohol - I hate An anti-fungal cream I used in the past for ringworm - I hate (I smelled this first) Strawberry Jam - I love Eucalyptus Spearmint - I love. Food tastes normal already even though my smell is weak, but I expect it to get back to full strength eventually. Hope this helps. I will check in periodically to update everyone.

Thanks for sharing on this important topic! One way to try to get smell back is through Olfactory training! You can buy 4 essential oils: eucalyptus, cloves, rose, and lemon. Put 5-6 drops of each oil on water color paper and put the paper inside a brown or amber colored jar. Take short bursts of smell 2x/day for 20 seconds each time, for at least 4 months, and track the progress of your sense of smell. Hope this is helpful for people!

Just want to give everyone some hope. Because I was freaking out not being able to smell until a few days ago. IT WILL come back, trust me. For me it came back on the third week. It randomly came back and it was very faint at first. And every day it improves about 5%. Im probably at 20% atm, which isn't much but it's DEFINITELY better than 0. Atleast I know it's coming back and getting better. Please hang in there! I used to cry and have panick attacks not being able to smell. It gets better folks!

@luqi014 жыл бұрын
@@linaaaxoxo All i did was take vitamin c, 2000mg and zinc 60mg. Loss of smell is actually caused by the virus depleting zinc from your body. I didnt do any olfactory training, i found that more frustrating because you're trying to smell something but u cant so it made my panicking and anxiety worse. I would advise against doing that. I would say to just stay patient, take your zinc and wait it out. It WILL come back trust me,i was in your exact position last week

Second time around that I lose my sense of smell due to a covid infection. Last time it took 6-8 weeks to recover some decent level of taste and smell. Not sure how long it will take this time. 3 vaccines and still got this crap. I normally have a very very good sense of smell, and I got it back to my sense of normal after the first time, which took 3-4 months (subjective perception and memory of what very subtle scents I could pick up during my lifetime before the loss). Still, I'm glad there are videos like this that give some decent understandable facts that leave me feeling hopeful.

But when my smell went 5 days later I knew I needed to get another test! I'm on day 8 now and it sucks. I remember watching this video 1 month ago thinking I would be back to normal. Sike... All I had was a few headaches and some fatigue for a couple of days. Then my smell completely vanished. No congestion, no stuffy nose. Just couldn't smell anything. Not even slightly. Biting into garlic, shoving essential oils into my nose, not a whiff. About 29 days in, I was able to smell certain strong essential oils like eucalyptus and lemon after days of nothing in sight. I could also start tasting things like chocolates, candies, peanut butter at about 1/4 or 1/2 intensity. However the smells come and go. In the mornings I wake up being unable to smell anything. Towards the evenings I can smell certain items. Meats I am unable to smell. I do have allergies and I notice that taking zyrtec helps me to smell earlier in the day. While I don't doubt that for most people recovery is pretty simple, it has been very complicated and not linear at all for me whatsoever. I'm writing this now as I'm unable to smell anything, yet yesterday night I was able to smell and taste my tomato soup at about 1/4 intensity. I'm totally bracing myself for permanent damage honestly. As far as I've seen, the people who recover in under 2-4 weeks never "fully" lost their smell to begin with, and were just congested. This is on another level. I'm certain my allergies and dry air and nose is interfering with my recovery. Not to mention that my "default" smell (when I can even smell at all) has changed to smell like a mixture of vanilla and baby powder. I guess there really isn't any point in getting upset over it though. It's not like I can control how my body recovers or if it recovers at all. I wish things were different.

When I lost both, taste and smell due to Covid I was looking for reassurance that it will come back and I was looking for comments like this. Please stay sane. It is very hard and my week without any smell and taste whatsoever was one of the worst in my life. It is coming back now slowly but surely. Still cannot smell everything or some stuff smell different than they used to but we will get there. This virus is so bizarre. I’m on day 6 of having symptoms and didn’t start losing taste and smell until day 3. My symptoms haven’t been too bad but it’s so weird not being able to taste or smell anything at all, especially since I haven’t had much of a stuffy/runny nose at all nor have I been very congested. I can’t even smell Vick’s Vaporub and I’m sure most of you know how strong that stuff can smell. It’s just so different compared to any cold or flu I’ve had before, since with those illnesses I’d at least be able to taste a little bit if I blew and cleared out my nose enough. Absolutely nothing I can do about that with covid though no matter how much cold medicine or Kleenex I go through. Best of luck to anyone in recovery from covid (especially to those with severe symptoms), this virus is no joke.
