On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Halios - Universa, Out-of-this-World Excellence, Down-to-Earth Cost

On this episode we review my Halios Universa. For me the Fairwind was a no brainer, I just had to have it but when it came to the Fairwind, it was more of a slow burn. Sure I liked it at a glance but it took a bit more time to warm to it enough for me to pull the trigger but boy am I glad that I did. This thing is the definition of wrist candy. I love it so much and hope to see more folks getting their hands on these, so they can experience the joy this watch brings my wrist. Halios might be the most frustrating watch brand in the world. This exact model is on my radar but I have no idea how to get one. Tried to buy straight from Halios on the minute they're available just to see the "out of stock" sign. Recently Jason cut ties with his EU retailer which sucks for us. You never see these second hand and if you do it is a scalper asking for triple the msrp. I wonder why it is so hard for Halios/Jason to hire some staff and produce bigger batches?

Nice review. The watch's attributes speaks for themselves and I agree with your comments. I did find two areas of disappointment with mine. One, I found the movement difficult to wind which totally degrades the winding experience. Two, the upper bezel surface by the crystal has a shinny finish and is a scratch magnet. Your thoughts?

while I don't have any difficulties winding the movement, there is a touch more resistance vs. something like my Hamilton Khaki Field, which I suspect is due to the additional water sealing and overall tighter tolerances around the crownstem. as for the polished accent close to the crystal, I've found my eye more drawn to smudges etc. but haven't seen any long term damage as of yet.

Watch-inspired shirt purchases! HaI love it. I was browsing WUS the night before the anticipated Huckberry launch, and saw a post that the watches had gone live early. The green and blue were sold out by 11pm, but I was able to snag a grey Universa just before midnight. The watch is fabulous! I too, have a 7.25" wrist, and normally don't wear 38mm, but the way the gorgeous angular 48mm turned down lugs hug the wrist make the watch wear larger. The applied indices! The bracelet! This might be the perfect watch. Now I need a Fairwind lol. Great review, man!

Between this and the Sinn 556, which do you think would be better for a 6.25-6.5 wrist?

I have both and the 556 wears much smaller in my opinion. The 556 would be better for a smaller wrist for sure. The 48mm lugs on this Universa make it wear more like a 39.5mm watch.

I just can't get past the "MECHA. NICAL." At the bottom. Beautifully designed watch, ruined by stamping that at the bottom and making it look like two words that aren't words. You can split up "Swiss made." You can split up "hand wind." But just cutting a word in half looks so dumb.

Add yourself to Halios’s mailing list. They get tons of emails. I’ve put myself on their mailing list and have had plenty of opportunity to buy when watches are available. Everything good is hard to come by nowadays. Halios service is top notch. If you really want one, put yourself on the mailing list and be patient.

@@parkpy unfortunately I did. The fact is that they have released the watch 12 hours before without any advise. Unfortunately there are many comments like mine around so many Halios fan were very disappointed

@@mnt6458 yeah you’re right- I had been waiting for ages and even set alarms as I’m in the U.K. so release times we’re not convenient for us- but still no chance. I can’t see how it can be that hard to create a first come first served list, even take a deposit to stop messers if need be, but the experience has actually turned me off the brand. I’m toying with the idea of buying above retail as I do really want this watch and my daughter loves the colour… but on principle I’d rather just get a Christopher Ward.
