While there isn't necessarily anything wrong with the way you use the Seiko 5, I believe the intended way to use it is: 1. Set your watch normally. 2. Adjust the GMT hand to GMT / UTC and leave it associated with your home time. 3. When traveling, rotate the bezel to the GMT offset. This is why they are called GMT watches, and it's way more convenient for frequent travelers because you don't have to mess with the crown when switching local timezones. Also, it kind of negates the negatives associated with the "Caller's GMT" movement.

My demo certainly wasn't the only way it could be used but rotating bezels are pretty clearly advertised as for tracking up to a third timezone, so for me, more of a calculator when applying GMT plus or minus as an auxiliary function. Also leaving both handsets set to the same local time kind of negates the movement's ability for independent adjustment.

And for me, there aren't any real negatives for a Caller's GMT, mostly just misconceptions from them being considered more common and slightly less intuitive for use when traveling.

@@AverageBros Marketing aside, I still think the easiest way to track TWO timezones with a GMT that has a rotating bezel is to not touch the crown when traveling and only use the bezel regardless of if the watch is a travelers or a callers style.

@@DavidRon Well, if you leave it set to UTC and know all of the offsets, then you're using it more like a world timer, so that works too. I find it a lot more intuitive to adjust the crown once (per location), rather than adjust my eyes to read the dial and hands differently everytime I check the time. Just me though. I hope my presentation of using the Seiko 5 GMT didn't leave you feeling like you had to defend it's capabilities, I enjoy the watch and don't think it's some lesser solution, I hope I made that clear in the video.

I'm curious on your purchase of the SBGM245 from Sakura. What's the warranty situation like? That's a pretty good price for that model. It's one of the top 2 on my Grand Seiko consideration list.

The 24 hour scale bezel insert (on both these Seokos) is the key. Even if the only thing you learn about gmt is the offsets, you set that fourth hand to utc, and you set the bezel insert to local destination time. If you’re traveling for work, you’re probably not going to spend more than a couple of days at your destination. You still need to know the time at home. If you’re traveling frequently, it’s a lot more convenient to adjust the bezel to destination local time than to constantly have to pull the crown out to jump the hour hand, much less fool around with using the gmt hand for something other than gmt. All a ‘true’ gmt does for me is makes it easier to adjust my home time to dst. I refer to utc daily, traveling or not, for many things besides destination local time, so a watch without a 24 hour sub-scale for the gmt hand is a big no. It’s your watch. Use it however you want - but don’t buy into the myth that an office gmt isn’t for traveling. This Seiko 5 gmt is a great deal handier for serious traveling than most ‘true’ gmt watches are..

Hi, love your vids, can we see a head to head detailed comparison of the new standard king sieko line vs grand seiko. Comparing finishing and close up details especially. I feel they would be way closer than people think, and I feel the new king seikos almost act as budget grand seikos. Really would love to see that vid. Keep up the sick videos!
