Jim that was so helpful. Thanks for all the trial-and-error to figure this out and then share it. Now I see why I and others in your previous video admitted we hadn't used LMs in On1. It's not one-button intuitive. If we don't choose filters or presets with care and know how to adjust Levels and Opacity, the effect can be too strong. I got excellent results with your guidance on a similar image edited in other apps that was still boring.

Thanks again for outlining and demonstrating the use and power of luminosity masks, Jim. I already enjoyed your other video (with the easy workflow) giving me a kind of confirmation of my feeling about LM. I only recently acquired a tutorial about masking in ON1 that has been advertised also by ON1, Oregon (you may know of which one I am talking about..). In the course of the lessons luminosity masks are considered to be somehow exotic and "old school" and maybe only for certain purposes. Even worse, the short demo on the usage of luminosity masks in this chargeable tutorial contains a misleading advice or at least a flaw. Your presentation is clear and inspiring - I think the comments you have received so far confirm this once more. Best regards, Michael

Hi Michael and thanks. I have seen them advertise a masking course but I don't know anything about it. I find it interesting that Luminosity Masks are downplayed a bit in it, but I do suspect it comes down to personal choice. I absolutely love them, and they are my favorite type of masks. I use them all the time. Maybe they are old school, but they work every time. 😀 I'm glad you find this useful, and appreciate you watching. Thanks!

Thanks for this use of luminosity masks in On1. Prior to your various videos on Luminosity masks, I had not used them as I had no idea of what they were. Now, thanks to you, my understanding is so much better. It's noticeable how the different softwares approach the controls for thier adjustments.

Creative use of Luminosity masks - and you did a great job of presenting the concept of inserting a pre set - I didn't realize that capability was there.
