Here's a little side note about Albegas. It was also supposed to be part of the Voltron continuity. When Matchbox and World Events announced the toy line, they had three versions of Voltron based on the universes they were in. The most well known version (Lion Force) was Voltron III (of the far universe) while the lesser known Vehicle Voltron, based on Dairugger XV, was Voltron I (of the near Universe.) Albegas was to be known as Voltron II, or Gladiator Voltron, but due to the poor reaction of Vehicle Voltron compared to Lion Voltron, plans for Albegas were eventually scrapped, so it wasn't just the laser disc game where something Albegas related was scrapped.

I had an opportunity to play one of the Dredd test cabinets in Chicago, at an arcade called Dennis' Place for Games (RIP Dennis). It wasn't all that bad, tbh. Hit detection was rough and it definitely needed better animation but with some fine-tuning, I think it would've been decently received. In some regards, it reminded me a lot of NARC. And as rough as the digitized graphics look, it's important to keep in mind that games like Pit Fighter were still in arcades back then, so that presentation wasn't bad for its time.

I find myself fascinated by this one arcade game called Asylum. It's clear the creators must have thought it was going to blow the doors off the arcades since it offered secret codes for Asylum merchandise upon finishing it - it just didn't get released for whatever reason. Besides how weird and violent the game was I don't know why exactly, also it was to be released at a time when weird and violent games were prevalent. The unreleased game had some really obvious bugs, weird hit detection and was curiously short. It's a hell of a ride while it lasts.

There are bits of Flea Pit preserved on the Pickford Bros.' website, a project that eventually became Plok for the SNES. Then there's Universal's Mrs. Dynamite. Thanks! Oh, Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha? It's great, and it's very affordable on the original PlayStation. It started as an arcade game, Street Fighter EX, then they released an upgraded version called Street Fighter EX Plus. Plus Alpha is essentially the console version of that. I love that game, and still play it today. I've been working on a video on it actually, but it's been slow going so not sure when I'll get it finished.

Knowing Marble Madness 2 was in development is incredbile news haha, still crack out my NES copy of the original from time to time. I would have loved the Judge Dredd side scroller as I enjoy all things related to him. I'm dreaming of the day an open world Judge Dredd is made where you go round dealing with crims like the True Crime Series. Fascinating video

Chimera-beast?(couldn’t quite make out the name) was “too weird” or was it “too ugly”? Great idea, though. I would like to see what could be done with it today. Rogue-like shooter/assimilation has you trying to make it to the top of the food chain in an ever evolving world?with infinite combinations of animals and sea-life to discover/assimilate?!? Also, with less phallic-like “The Thing” visuals and more evil phallic-like “HR Giger visuals?!? Um yes please! Where do I sign up for programming school?

I'd have thought Capcom Fighting All-Stars would have featured Morrigan from Vampire Hunter. Also, Tattoo Assassins were written by Data East's _pinball_ division. _Chimera Beast_ has (very) few hints of _Saint Dragon_

Yeah, I thought that Demitri was an odd choice over Morrigan, but a bit of variety is good I suppose.

Another cracking video Pete! It's a shame about Spell Singer, it looks like it could've been something really great. I can sort of understand why it was canned though, I'm guessing by '95 everyone was looking for shiny 3D graphics with their arcade games (as they were with their home console titles?). Either way it's got a nice Guardian Heroes look about it. Hammer Away looks like it might've inspired Under Defeat, that adjustable angle of fire is very familiar, it's got a bit of Raiden about it as well. Judge Dredd looked nuts, I'd much rather have had that than the shitty Stallone vehicle that came along.
@onaretrotip6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Owen! Yeah, agreed, Spellsinger looks great. Yes, I'd imagine that its 2D style was one of the reason they thought they'd "missed their window" with it, as by then 3D fighters were starting to become hugely popular at the arcades. Hammer Away looks good, although there were a lot of Raiden-like vertical shooters at the time. Not so sure about Judge Dredd, but as I said I bet it would've been popular among many.
