Just bought one. It is lovely with one blooming spike. I have it in my kitchen with plenty of light. Thanks so much for your posts. For some reason mine smells more like vanilla. Beautiful scent and the white with the reddish-brown is very appealing. Thanks so much for sharing.

+Gardening at Douentza Thank you so much! I watch your videos also! I don't do these to sell orchids. I just love to share my collection and what I've been able to learn through over 30 years of growing orchids. Orchids and the people who grow them are such an important part of my life and being able to do these videos are so enjoyable!!!! Happy Growing, dear!!!

I just got myself a Onc. Heaven Scent 'Redolence'. I was happy to find your video and learn more about it. Thank you for your information on the medium you grow it in. Question: how often do you fertilize it and what do you use to fertilize?
@wadesorchids72196 жыл бұрын
Mariko Schmidtauer fertilization is the least important of the essentials in orchid growing. Not that it is unnecessary but it is very overstated. I use an MSU type fertilizer once every week to 10 days. Less often during cooler months. Unless you have more than 20 plants I would just use something like Miracle Gro at half strength. Best of luck. ‘Redolance’ is a great addition to any collection!

Thank you for your response - I appreciate you sharing your experience. My mom and I now have over a dozen very different orchids we've collected over the past few years. Living in Hawaii they are one of the best ways to have flowers in the house (cut bouquets don't hold up well)... after blooming we have learned that moving the pots outside tends to work best and have had most plants gift us flowers again. We still have a lot to learn about orchids - location, watering, medium, fertilization... so thank you

Hi Wade- I just bought one of these and I love it! Thanks for this detailed video. I was wondering what the percentage or ratio breakdown of the medium you mentioned you use for these types. I now have two intergeneric oncidiums and feel they need more water then I can provide in just straight bark, it seems I could water them every day and they would still be happy with more. The video you did explaining the potting medium for the semi-terrestrials was extremely helpful! Thanks Wade!
@wadesorchids72198 жыл бұрын
mysticshining You're right about them needing more water. I use 4 parts medium bark and 1 part perlite (my basic Cattleya mix). To that I add 1 part good quality sphagnum moss that I cut into small pieces. If the pot is larger than 4" I put some styrofoam peanuts in the bottom. Hope that helps!

Thanks Wade, sounds good :) Definitely going to try this ratio.

Hello! I'm new to your Chanel :) I have a few questions for you. I am new to orchids new hobby I enjoy since 2 days. I know is hard to identify orchids with now flowers but would you be able to tell me how many type of orchids they are for me able to identify them by the leafs? I mean like identifying an oncidum, vandas ...etc. I will appreciate it. If you have a link to a video of yours please post it for me. Thank you again!
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
+Anna Vidaurri Anna, I don't think I can answer that question very well. There are over 35,000 different species of orchids and over 250,000 hybrids! There is an incredible variety of types of leaves and also many that cannot be identified unless they are in flower.

I thought heaven scent is more compact because mine certainly is. The pseudobulbs are no more than about 3 inches tall and the spikes are shorter too.
@wadesorchids72199 жыл бұрын
+Jackie Fu Jackie, I had thought so too. I was basing it on Heaven Scent 'Sweet Baby'. It appears though that some take after the Sharry Baby parent and this is logical in a cross. Nevertheless, it is a very rewarding plant. I am especially interested in seeing how often it will send new growths and if it can throw more than one spike on a growth. Time will tell :)
