Hi Wade, I have 3 catasetums potted using the PET method, just a beginner, never had catasetums before. If everything goes well I intend to have a few more. Thanks for this very interesting video.

I understand that method works well for some - especially if you can’t water frequently enough. I’m in the greenhouse every day and so watering isn’t difficult. If it works well, go for it! And thanks for watching.

Hi Wade... thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I have a couple questions that after scouring the web, I could not find an answer for. I live in NY and have my ctsm's under lights (approx 16 hours of artificial light that runs congruently with natural light) in east, west and south facing windows. Many of them are already losing their leaves... is this normal? It seems early (though in most cases bulbs are as large or larger than previous years' growth) In addition, some of the one's that are losing or have lost their leaves are putting out new growths. Should I continue to grow them under lights (for longer day lengths)? Finally, I understand that when leafless, they should be in decent humid environment, but does light matter (I wouldn't think so, but maybe?). Thank you so much for taking time to answer these questions.

great tips, I only have one Catasetum and I will not buy another till I have learned how to take care of it right or get her to bloom, one of my bulbs is shrivels and dried out, I'm too afraid to water it, last year I think I watered it too soon, hopefully I will get it right!

Hello Wade, I am thinking about getting a catasetum. Does the dormancy apply the same in Florida?? What I mean is, do they come out of dormancy in June??
@wadesorchids72194 жыл бұрын
They are variable as to when they come out of dormancy. Mine can start as early as the end of February while some can wait till the end of June. As I mention in the video, just go by what the plant is doing. Watering starts when roots are about 2" long. You can't always see that from the surface but you know how roots grow. Probaby a few weeks after you see them coming out of the base of the plant. Best of luck and contact me if you have more questions.
