April 1, 2019 admitted to icu in septic shock from misdiagnosed necrotizing fasciitis in my right foot. I went into my local beach, Perdido Key , FL, and came out with something very scary wrong with my right foot. I was limping within hours. Next day I couldn’t put any weight on my right foot. Two days later, septic. I was rushed to the hospital. Was in hospital for three months. Ten weeks IV antibiotics, multiple organ failures, four major surgeries on my foot, wound care, PT. My Podiatrist/surgeon saved my life and my foot. Thank you to all the amazing Podiatrists who continue to save lives and limbs.

I imagine it might’ve been nice to go to your dad first with that problem and ask him how to solve it rather than go to him second? Listen what you’re dealing with over there is very tough, he’s a beautiful man but it does wear on nerves and I can tell it’s worn on your wife’s nerves a little bit, but the man has a powerful mind and there’s valuable information in there and he’s worth a lot. I’m in a similar situation so I definitely can speak on this. It’s hard and I’m glad you involved him at some point.

@@shapienails3067 i’m sure there’s a balance that’s very hard to achieve. But occasionally, I think it would help his self-esteem and his self-worth if he were a decision maker for a second, a chore, foot question obviously etc. He has mobility so the fall danger is there but he looks really strong for 90. It’s easy just to say while watching, we aren’t there, but a little goes a long way so I would definitely involve his mind, make sure that he has some authority on a daily basis regarding something.

But it’s always good to take a moment to respect the man who could out Dr. anybody in that room, who’s Expertise was the foot, he should be respected and listened to. @@lifestyles2482 @Lifestyles EXACTLY. I went through it with my own father. Not once did I ever demonstrate in front of him annoyance nor did I ever patronize or disrespect him in any way because I knew he couldn't help his actions nor was he the blame for being in that state of mind. I was always patient and kind by sometimes giving him the illusion that he was still in control to keep his dignity. My father was a great, loving father who was VERY patient with my immaturity when I was growing up as a wild kid. The least I could do as an adult taking care of him was return the favor. I get it's very hard and challenging for them, especially his son but not any harder than what his father is going through mentally with the frustrations, confusion, nightmares etc day to day, night to night that only worsens with time. Also, the only reason I chose to take care of my father was because quite simply, I love him and that he would've done the same for me. I didn't need a pat on the back or money, or even a thank you. Knowing that he was not alone and knowing that he knew that I was by his side and not abandoned up until the end, is enough for me to be content and satisfied.

@@rodeo11 I think they are trying that, but there’s a real slippery slope when you start yelling because a certain tone becomes attached and it sounds negative and that’s kind of the natural progression to get your nerves frayed like that. I would just say, while making content especially, do the side-by-side or bring up a chair next to him, and I’m seeing that they’re doing that a lot more now and I love seeing that. I’m also dealing with somebody who has major hearing loss, and repeating yourself and yelling just wears you down.

My spouse is a medical physician - Family Practice specialty and - a Sports Medicine sub- specialty ( w dual specialties) - of 57 years, with stage 4/5 dementia. Once Pure Brilliance and Wealth of Knowledge. I can certainly relate. This part of the long term memory remains for a very long time in dementia patients- in time then remains only to a point, and eventually it too then in time it too - begins to fade away from their memory banks until it is gone as well. Short term memory loss does over time - eventually become long term memory loss as well in most cases. Thank you for sharing. I see so many similarities in the symptoms with your beloved father and grandpa and my spouse. God Bless your family.

Your Dad is such a sweet man! I know it's sad to see his decline in memory and cognition, but he's always so pleasant and caring. Caring for an aging parent is such a challenge, but you and your family have definitely risen to the occasion. Thank you for allowing the rest of us to have glimpses into your lives as you navigate these waters. You are truly blessed, and you're blessing us!

I wonder if anyone has any issues like that if it would be nice to let him put the bandages on or do “treatment”. Might help him to feel like he’s really helping out. I know when my grandma was going through this I’d give her very small tasks she could help me with. That always seemed to make her feel good staying busy / giving purpose even while she aged. Things she was good at even before her mind started going.

Did you know you can set up a team with Alzheimer's Association in remembrance of your dad? Our team is team Marvine in memory of my great grandmother. This is a great and very supportive association and we love it.

This is basically like a patient going to their doctor their doctor will tell them what they need to do and the patient goes home and does what they want. You can probably actually have that healed up on that kid's feet If they would do what he told themto do. And I'm sure he could tell him what kind of medicine they need for that. They actually got an opportunity there to learn something if they were interested and they could pass it onto their own kids.
