Store bought powdered sugar will have some sort of starch in it ( corn/ potato). It prevents it from clumping but also when you use it for glazes and frosting acts as a thickening agent. Add about a tablespoon of corn starch to a cup of granulated sugar and blend for those purposes☺️.

POWDERED SUGAR (aka 10x sugar). Powdered sugar is made by pouring regular granulated sugar in a blender and blending until it is a light fluffy powder. Store in large mason or other air tight container. The reason the store stuff has corn start is to keep it from compressing together or solidifying while sitting in grocer shelves. Hope this helps with the one ingredient goal.

I was so happy to see this video. Hubby and I had health issues and had to switch to organic foods to avoid any pesticides/herbicides. We couldn't afford the breads and so I started baking from scratch. At first I thought--can I do this???? As time went on, we started making EVERYTHING from scratch---no prepared (and highly processed!!) foods. My gosh, the difference was AMAZING> our health improved so much. And frankly, the homemade stuff is soooooo much better tasting. You'll find that the longer you do this, it not only gets easier, but you also will be unable to stand the chemically-overprocessed taste of store bought convenience foods. Good luck with your journey--I wish you great success.

Sara I discovered an iced tea trick about 4 years ago that is easy. Get a gallon sized jug, pitcher, or jar. Fill it full of filtered water from your fridge and drop your tea bags in. I use single bags( because I like hot tea before bed and in the morning) Lipton and Tetley English Breakfast and I use about 5-7 bags each removing of course removing any tags. Leave the staple in the Lipton. Let it sit in your fridge overnight. Next morning iced tea! I tried that Lipton cold brew, too many steps, and it didn’t have that iced tea taste. And the rule in our house is if you take the last of the tea you have to make the next batch. I host play dates with my grand niece and nephew and I add just a bit of honey or agave syrup and they are happy with decaf tea all day. We never run out because I keep 3 gallon sized jugs of decaf iced tea in my fridge. Only takes a minute to make. Good luck kicking the Diet Coke habit. Love your family❤️

It's less processed than the bulk bag of white sugar in your video, with slightly larger granules and with a very slight brown colour to it, but it's more processed than the brown, sticky sugars commonly used in baking. Apparently the raw sugar is particularly good in coffee!

Someone may have mentioned this but if you put your tomatoes (or avocados or peppers) in a paper bag and fold it closed and leave it out on your counter, they will ripen faster. Part of the problem is that this stuff is picked too early because it's shipped a long way since it's out of season in the Midwest. They just aren't ripe quite yet. It works with fruit too. It's just a gardening trick we learned when we pick all our vegetables left on the plants before the fall frost.

You can make your own powdered sugar by putting granulated sugar sugar in a high powered blender you only need corn starch if your not using it right away to help keep sugar dry 😊 just remember whatever amount of sugar you put in will double as powdered sugar ( 1/2 cup makes 1 cup of powdered) .

One tip for cilantro to keep it fresh. If you put the bottom of the stems in water, it stays fresh for longer. Love all the content!

Solo and Sarah, I watched Three Rivers Homestead here on KZbin. She gives tips on ordering from Azure Standard. She freezes her grains (especially her wheat berries) for 3 days to kill off bugs that might be in it. This makes me anxious to be able to set up our 9 month food storage in our new mountain cabin that we will be building. Very interesting to see how what you are buying impacts your budget...and it is great that all your kiddos are on board with helping make meals.

I just started making Skyr Yogurt in my Instant Pot. I use Grassfed milk and save some yogurt from 1 batch to the next as the starter. If you get a Euro bowl (amazon) and allow the yogurt to drip, at first it is like Greek Yogurt, and then as it continues to drip, it becomes as thick as Cream Cheese. I do not add any sweetener while it is dripping, but I think you would like it and it is cheaper doing it this way than trying to buy packages of cream cheese. It is actually slightly sweet as it drips. (the instructions are from a youtube video.) Very clean. I made a gallon for $11

You can put your pure cane sugar into your food processor to make powdered sugar also, Sarah. I've been watching how you're going and I'm going to try to eat most of the non one ingredient food I have and as soon as I can I'm going to try this 1 ingredient thing out. Thanks for the inspo!

My husband makes cheese regularly and cream cheese is a stable he makes often! You can order a culture to make it and other types of cheese. Also calcium chloride will seperate homogenized milk so that you don't need to buy the more expensive milk for cheese making.
