The horn analogy was nice. Definitely a R. C. professor of guitar philosophy edition.

It's odd how it makes sense. For chords, in my "mind's ear" I think orchestral strings. Unless it's an inescapably “guitaristic” idea. Listening to the voices and vocabulary of instruments other than the guitar widens your palate and imho helps you find your own voice. A lot of what I teach harmonically comes from translating piano concepts to guitar. When I was younger, and learning how to sight read I used to use clarinet studies and etudes because guitar repertoire was usually too prescriptive. Be agnostic where you pull your learning materials!

Ricky - it makes sense - but for new guys you need to show how it relates to a song or on the looper - because it then makes sense - i have to say you have opened up something new for me that i have been about 15 years looking for the relationship - in regards to your book it would be nice for the to know how the lessons work together to move from the L77 and the L7 grid to the other soloing then WHAT? but your teaching is amazing i cannot stop watching - keep it up

The sixth you point out is the major sixth. But weren’t we in A minor pentatonic?
@rickysguitar4 ай бұрын
Great question! Yes, we're borrowing it from dorian. Also, if we create ambiguity around the minor 3rd by using the Major 3rd as an approach note we can also combine that with the Major 6 and suggest Major pentatonic. That way we can create tension and release. Obviously if the chord in the now was minor we'd struggle with the Major 3rd idea, but the "nearly dorian" idea of using the Major 6th would still work.
