That entrance of Sumaguing cave have been full of coffins ang skulls when we were little. But slowly they were desecrated and stolen by some locals and tourists until they were all gone. The wooden coffins were sold for antiques from collectors. We also have hanging coffins on the cliffs found near southwest of Sumaguing…they’re also gone now. By the way I am from Sagada, and the village across Sumaguing Cave when you look up west is our place called Balugan. Sagada has lbeen considered one of the most unique places in our country and has long been famous for foreign tourist destination in the 70’s&80’s before the proliferation of other tourist places in the Philippines. Thank you for including our place in your itinerary of visits.

Oooh. Fossils. I wonder how old they are. Here in our province most limestone formations are young, like only a few million years old at most, so the fossils are mostly the same as modern marine life, even though we're also up in the mountains.

Let's see if I got it right: the oldest of the coffins (with the body inside) is lowered to the ground to make way for the new burials? Then the lowered coffins are just dumped in-site and left to rot due to the elements? Interesting. A bit disconcerting for the squemish seeing human skulls and bones casually placed outside of their coffins, though.
