In this week's live chat question and answer, David Guzik deals with the often-asked question regarding "Once Saved, Always Saved" - that is, should we think that it is possible for a true believer (or apparent believer) to "lose" their salvation, and not go to heaven when they die?

Amen, it's a daily walk. We take up our Cross. If we don't identify daily, we forget to identify. HE who BEGAN a GOOD WORK in You, Will Complete It. Eyes on the Lord, never lose focus. If we could have lost our salvation, we would have lost it long ago.

There's assurance when one is truly born again but that doesn't mean that a person can't neglect and reject their salvation. It takes the persons will and Gods will to save a soul. Gods gifts and call are irrevocable but a person can revoke the gift by going back into sin.

When I took a course in Greek, I learned that the Continual Present Tense of "believes" in John 3:16 would be translated "continues believing" whereas in English sounds like once and done. This provoked me to get a Hebrew/Greek study bible by Zodiates. Thank you, David, for your Solomon-like wisdom from God and taking the time to expound on this controversial topic. This was exquisitely detailed and balanced teaching on the subject.

1 Peter 1 teaches that the conception of the new birth is incorruptible because the seed (God’s Word, the gospel) is incorruptible and compares the forever nature of our new birth to the corruptible first birth in flesh. Eternal life is just that.

I remember a preacher saying that salvation is a gift which is forever given/secured to the recipient to enjoy. However, like any gift, he can put it in a shelf, forget about and effectively not have it anymore. It's nevet taken back by God. Its always available.

@@DelpFan2008 It's not about the giver nor the gift. It's the recipient mate. The former 2 are perfect, the latter isn't. The essence of my thought is that a Christian can waste, not lose, the gift of salvation, by not living accordingly such as not loving and forgiving and not sharing his faith. Hope this helps your confusion and objection.

That "no one is strong enough to snatch us away" does not nullify the Father himself (the vine dresser) "taking away EVERY branch IN ME that does not bear fruit." And as for "nothing in death or life" being able "separate us from the love of God," that is true but for SIN, which is not in that list! In CONTEXT of the same book the Apostol Paul made the point for the previous few chapter that it is SIN that separates us from God and causes separation from God. He neglects the truth by not reading the rest in context of the same passage: "If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned." And the Lord Continues as recorded in verse 10: "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love." It is "IF" you keep his commands that you will "REMAIN" in his love. And also the Lord makes it unequivocally clear in Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." Elsewhere the Lord gives the warning in Matthew 7:17-19 "Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." Heed the Warning of the Lord. You cannot add five minutes of babbling between verses and get the original message. Matthew 10;22 "You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved." Matthew 13:21 "But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away." Luke 8:13 "Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away." 2 Peter 2:20-22 "If indeed they have escaped the corruption of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, only to be entangled and overcome by it again, their final condition is worse than it was at first. 21It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn away from the holy commandment passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.” Hebrews 6: 4-It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age- 6 and then have fallen away-to be restored to repentance, because they themselves are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to open shame. Hebrews 10:26-31 "If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, NO FURTHER SACRIFICE FOR SINS REMAINS, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging FIRE that will CONSUME all adversaries. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Hebrews 10: So do not throw away your confidence; it holds a great reward. 36 You need to persevere, so that after you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. 37 For, “In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay. 38 But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him.” 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls." Hebrews 12:14-17 "Pursue peace with everyone, as well as holiness, without which NO ONE WILL SEE the Lord. 15 See to it that no one FALLS SHORT of the grace of God, and that no root of bitterness springs up to cause trouble and DEFILE MANY. 16 See to it that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his birthright. 17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, HE WAS REJECTED. He could find NO GROUND FOR REPENTENCE, though he sought the blessing with tears." Thess 3:5 "For this reason, when I could stand it no longer, I sent to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way the tempter had tempted you and that our labors might have been IN VEIN" 2 Peter 2:10 "Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for IF YOU PRACTICE these qualities you will never FALL." 1 Corinthians 10: "We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test Christ, as some of them did, and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel. 11 Now these things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12 So the one who thinks he is standing firm should BE CAREFUL NOT TO FALL."

Scripture seems to say you can't loose salvation and no one can take it from you but you do have the freedom to stop believing thus forfeit it. We are saved by grace through faith. Where we put our faith and whether we keep it there is up to us if we are able to be held responsible for our actions.

@@DelpFan2008 We don't have to worry about keeping ourselves saved. We are either saved or we are not. Praise God it's not based on any of our own works. We are saved by grace. Our responsibility is to believe it which requires putting our faith and trust in Christ's word and his finished work. Faith is not meritorious but it must be exorcised by our own free will. It seems to me the only way we can stop being in Christ is if we stop putting our faith in Him. God is not ever going to force us to be with Him.

We cannot double-talk. Either we are eternally secured or not secured. If we think we can lose our salvation for whatever reasons after believing Christ at one moment in time, it means we are not eternally secured. So it's either secured (having assurance) or not secured (no assurance). Nothing in between!!We have to ask, what is the object of our faith? Is it Jesus or ourselves that maintain our salvation? Romans 11:6 (KJV) " *And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace* . But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." The verse mentioned below is being twisted as if it sounds like you can lose your salvation. 1.Matthew 10:21-22 This verse is talking about escaping physical death during the 7-year tribulation. Matthew 10:21-22 "And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be *put to death* . And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the *end shall be saved* ." 2 . 1 Cor 15:1-2 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (KJV) "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye *keep in memory what I preached unto you* , unless ye have believed in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (NIV) "Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, * if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you* . Otherwise, you have believed in vain." Hold firm or keep in memory of what? What gospel did Paul preach? The answer is that by believing Jesus died for our sins, we are saved. And if you believe in another gospel i.e., Jesus didn't die for your sins, then you are believing in vain (e.g., Islam, etc.) 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" 3. 1 Timothy 4:16 "Save " does not mean salvation here but save us from the doctrine of the devils. Save or "sozo" can always mean other than salvation. Sozo can be used for curing of illness (Luke 8:36, Acts 4:9) , to be rescued from death ( Acts 27:31). 1 Timothy 4:16 (KJV) "Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee." The context for this verse in 1 Timothy 4:1. In addition, Paul was written to Timothy who was already saved. 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV) "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and *doctrines of devils;* " 4. Hebrew 6:4-6 The verse already says that it is impossible to be brought back to repentance for the fall away because once you received Christ, you are sealed forever and to put Him to shame if you say He did not die for our sins i.e., denied His finished work. Hebrews 6:4-6 "For it is *impossible* for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." 5. Judas Judas was not a believer to start with. He was not falling away after receiving Jesus. Peter denied Jesus three times, yet he was saved. John 6:64 Jesus says, "But there are some of you that *believe not* . For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him." 6. 1 Timothy 1:20 God can punish us, even unto death, but that does not mean we are not saved. See 1 Corinthians 5:1 & 5 having the same context with 1 Timothy 1:20. Even when we are not faithful, He is still faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). 1 Timothy 1:20 "Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme." 2 Timothy 2:13 (KJV) "If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself." 1 Corinthians 5:1 "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife." 1 Corinthians 5:5 "To deliver such an one *unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus* ." Believing in eternal security is synonymous with believing Jesus died for all our sins (John 3:16) and the object of faith is on Jesus. When we think we can fall away and lose salvation, it means we don't trust Jesus' finished work. John 6:28-29 (KJV) "28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." Acts 16:30-31 (KJV): "30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Eternal life is not temporarily life. Remember this..

Greetings Brother, Shalohm in our Lord's Saving Name. I've pondered this issue for seventy years now. My parents, grandparents grandparents, great-grandparents (all either Preachers, Missionaries, Church planters or circuit riders. In your teaching, you encourage me to study the Bread of Life, in context. I would encourage you to consider these none texual phrases in THEIR context. All the brothers and sisters mentioned above came out of America's Great Depression. Many of them lost farms, homes, and even necessities. The ONE thing they did not want to lose was their, "eternal security". They sort of adopted this convoluted phrase to ensure they would, (or could) lose the most precious treasure they owned. These were all General Baptist. In real estate, it's, "location, location....." In Bible study, people bring their own cultural biases to their understanding/interpretation.

Salvation consists of: Justification by Faith - imputed righteousness - separation from the PENALTY of Sin (Past); like a stamped passport - you can’t unstamp the passport; Salvation - separation from the POWER of Sin, growth, ongoing process until the rapture (present); Glorification - Separation from the Presence of sin, your life and experiences to glorify God……if you’re pure in the truth & you believe by faith your saved…done! If you’re not pure in truth and in your heart and your believe was just based on feelings at the time, you will drift away and not really be saved. God is the one who knows the heart.

Reminds me of the Wallenda's walking the tightrope. I don't envy David in teaching this one. Can't please everyone. When I look at the comments of this crowd, 2 thoughts come to mind. (1) Remember the scene from Indiana Jones where he gets lowered down only to see asps crawling around, and his response - I hate asps. Can't blame David if he said that here a few times, lol. (2) Rodney Dangerfield - "rough crowd" can't a guy get a little respect here? David as usual does a masterful job in explaining both sides, not easy for anyone.

Jesus said in John 10:28 “And I give them ETERNAL life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” Eternal life - not temporary life. I know there are passages that seem to say we have to keep doing something to receive this gift - but for me this gift then turns into works. Also how are we new creations in Christ and then not? How are we born again and then do we die spiritually- and does the Holy Spirit leave us like the Old Testament? My life is so full of JOY now that I can rest in Christ and His eternal salvation…and that JOY attracts people who want the peace I have ❤

Those who believe that salvation can be lost or forfeited do not understand what salvation actually is. True salvation is a process. We were saved, are being saved, and will be saved. These are all guaranteed processes of a soul that has given lordship of their life to the King Of Kings. Any person who says they are saved but goes back into the world proves that they were never really part of the body of Christ. (1 John 2:19). The warnings to Christians in the Word are about the dangers of falling into sin, and the consequences of doing so, such as destroying their testimony for the Lord, causing the relationship between God and the Christian to suffer, loss of peace and joy, and finally the untimely death of a disobeying Christian. We know this because of what Paul said to the Corinthians, when he declared that many were living in sin and taking communion, and for that reason many were physically sick and some had died. A disobedient Christian, even one living in continual sin, cannot lose their salvation. This is akin to a parent disowning their child for doing bad things. Any good parent knows that they would never do that. Our perfect Heavenly Father will not do that either. Eternal life isn’t eternal if it can be lost or forfeited, and it is granted at salvation.

The Bible, the Word of God is perfect and true, and very precise. They are both true! We must remember that we have an Omniscient God and God knows the end from the beginning, and therefore God knows the victorious overcomers and in fact, they are already written in the Book of Life. So the "once save always save" is true to those whose names are written in the book of life. The passages that support that we can lose our salvation is a warning and applicable to all Christians, It is a warning to all that if we do not abide in Him, we can lose our salvation.

This is so good! I’ve spent my whole life in the church but have never heard this explained this way I love the idea of a contradictory verses not cancelling each other out. And I love that pending on where you are in your walk, you need to hear one verse or the other.

I'm sorry David but I think you have left the question up in the air!!! The passage you quoted from in Matt 10.28 I suggest is not to present day believers at all (in the church age) but is kingdom truth, which is mainly what the Gospel record by Matthew is about, but is referring to tribulation saints and is referring to their preservation rather than salvation in the sense of deliverance from the penalty of sin. Also 1Cor 1.18 Paul is writing to believers who are being saved from the power of sin in their lives as taught in Romans 6. I feel it is important to state that salvation is viewed in the NT in 3 ways, Saved from the Penalty of sin ( a once and for all experience which can never be undone as you have rightly quoted in John 10, are being Saved from the Power of sin as already quoted but also ultimately Saved (delivered) from the Presence of sin at the Rapture (the catching up of 1Thess 4.13-18). So there is a past, present and future aspect of salvation. I hope you were not implying that the Warnings you mentioned are parallel to keeping salvation. The warnings are corrective ministry to careless saints of losing the joy of salvation but also losing reward at the Judgement Seat of Christ, 1Cor 3.15 which will take place in heaven and is applicable only to those who were saved with eternal redemption (Heb 9.12) and while their life could be lost, their soul is PRESERVED even through the fire of the all seeing eyes of Christ.

Enduring means survive, Matthew 24, the context is the Tribulation, Jesus says further down that “no flesh would be saved” meaning that if those days had not been shortened no one would remain alive to enter the millennium. Context is everything.

David I praise God that you discussed this topic from both sides, I truly appreciate your approach in teaching difficult controversial subjects, I truly believe there is a sense of security in Christ, and I also believe there is a responsibility for the believe to continue in the faith, to abide in the vine, and trust only is what Christ has done... the warnings must be taking seriously, but in the same sense the promises is what we can find assurance in, that if we abide in Him, nothing can take us from Him, but surely like you mentioned, anyone who has professed Christ, and bore good fruit could be deceived and walk away, I guess only God knows if they were truly His, today I will rest in the assurance I have in Christ, and I will take heed the warnings to continue in faith, and live holy. Thanks for this, truly needed this. Hey so last night I had a discussion with a brother, and we discussed the 70ad idea of Christ return then(which I definitely don’t subscribe to at all) and the idea of the destruction of the temple being what is mentioned in the gospels, and the idea of the great tribulation and he believes the rapture is a lie, made up, I was convicted because I didn’t know what to say as clearly as I’d like, I know prophetically speaking many things have to take place before the second coming and many would know when he returned, I know I just asked a lot, but you they the just of the subject, maybe in the future touch on that, because I’m confused, and I see Jesus promised we would have great tribulation in this world, please when you can help clear up my confusion, God bless you brother

Patricia, Thanks for writing in. That is a good and serious question which is hotly debated among many Christians. We see many exhortations and warning in the New Testament about not falling away, about continue to follow Jesus, and about enduring to the end. Thus, it seems clear that some group of people, whether truly born again, nominally Christian, or in some other spiritual condition, will depart from the faith. To answer your question more specifically, a "committed" Christian won't decide to not follow Jesus. Thanks for the question. Blessings!

This video is from a few years ago but is timeless. I'm glad that this is not just another click clickbait video about this subject. I often see videos with this same name and the only reason they are created are to sow doubt, discouragement and hopelessness in the body of Christ. Quite frankly if the Bible said we can loose our salvation I would have just given up on life along time ago because there would clearly be absolutely no hope at all. If there was no hope then clearly Jesus Christ would have died in vain and as well even his resurrection would have meant nothing. But thank God our Father that in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ there is living hope. And don't think I'm just saying this without any thought, I was one of those 'carnal Christians'.

Here's my take on this, not long I was faced with extreme pressure to indulge in downright sinful and dark activities by some unscrupulous people so I took the question to The Lord and as always he answered me and said, "once saved always saved is nothing more than a license to sin!" It makes sense cos otherwise all that one has to do is spend a few months/years in the clean, earn their salvation and go back to their carnal ways and basically "live it up." Uhm No! Admittedly, this topic deserves a much more detailed treatment than this but this should do for now....

I don't disagree with Guzik here. The issue is there are many who are unchanged and believe they're saved because someone told them they were but they weren't discipled and not really believers. The one's I deal with almost constantly turn tricks, fornicate, commit adultery, are drug mules, do whatever whenever because they want to and teach sin is ok with God. Discipleship in Matthew 28 actually means to grow in spiritual likeness to Christ. It can't be accomplished by self in pride or deceit. It can only be accomplished once we're changed and it will change our attitudes. We feel remorse.. the candle of the Lord is our spirit.

I’ve dug into this topic for countless hours because I had trouble reconciling scriptures that SEEMINGLY contradict; but it wasn’t until I understood 2 Timothy 2:15 that everything began to click: the Bible is written in DISPENSATIONS!! There are different time periods in which God dealt with different groups of people differently. Those who were under the Old and New Covenants; Jews and Gentiles! There are yet FUTURE dispensations as well at which time God will deal with differently. We are the Church, and God deals with us starting officially from when the Church age was born in Acts 2; but technically, since Christ rose from the dead, until the rapture! You’ll notice that when you see these divisions in the Word of God, the scriptures become crystal clear!! No more contradictions!!

Thank you. I have recently discovered your teaching and have loved your expositional teaching style. Thank you so much for keeping the Scripture as the focus. I also love how you proposed the question of "what would God have to undo" for one to lose their salvation. I have never thought of it that way. However, I would love to know what you believe about eternal security and why? I appreciate and understand that the question is bigger than a 30 minute podcast however, there are only three options here. 1. Those truly born again are secure 2. Those who are born again are not secure or 3. You don't know. Where I go to find your teaching on this?

I agree w David - I don't like the saying either, can't find it in the Bible, but I do get where both sides come from. Like He says God the Father doesn't accept you, then turn you out in the cold - unadopting you - that's it, you shamed the family. What David gets at here is the same as Paul does, you cannot abuse grace. When we do, you have to wonder if one was ever saved in the 1st place. Wouldn't the fruit show it? Shouldn't a saved person desire God, want to know more, want to be like, want to get in the Word daily, want to pray, want to fellowship, want to ABIDE (Jn 15:7)? I always tell people if you don't want God in your life here on earth, how can you expect to want Him in a Heaven you don't believe in, or care to go? Still the good shepherd that David is, he doesn't forget the struggling one, the straggler, who has bouts now and then with his past life, he is encouraging and mercifully understanding to such a one, because we were once sinners in the same boat. God takes us and perfects us, but no Christian on this earth is perfect, save one, Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:16 tells us... 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. This means that the Christian can experience a oneness and a unity with the indwelling Holy Spirit that can bring assurance to the Believer that they are indeed a child of God.. Hope this helps! Hi David, I have a question which I hope you can answer sometime. Did the godly men in the Old Testament have the Holy Spirit living in them like we do today - Holy Spirit joined to our spirit? David asked God not to take His Holy Spirit away from him when he sinned against God. Also John the Baptist had the Holy Spirit in him even in his mother's womb. What do you think? Thanks.

I understand we cannot be taken out of His hand. But what about those who walk away from God because they lost a child and are mad at God. Marriage is also a covenant but people walk away from marriage everyday. Who are those in the great falling away in the endtimes. They surely felt they were loyal followers. Please don’t say they were never saved. Thank you for considering my questions. Sincerely, Diane Pettigrew

Hi Diane, Great questions. I'll try to answer them. Wonderful Christians disagree on these questions. There are some who say that we can never "lose" or "walk away" from our salvation in Jesus. There are others who say the opposite. Certainly, the Bible speaks of those who thought that they were right with God, but were not. Matthew 7:21-23 speaks of those that had a false assurance of being right with God. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ But then there is another group that people ask about. Are there true believers that were genuinely born again and decided to forsake their salvation and leave their relationship with Jesus? There certainly seems to be evidence that would support that. Conversely, there are scriptures that support the idea of a Believers eternal security. Without honestly trying to dodge the question, we each have to come to our own conclusion on these issues. Here are some video links that offer a lot of information on this. Hope it helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3elp36mhLx7frc kzbin.info/www/bejne/an69n3p7qdiLlcU

Even tho we are faithless, He is faithful ... I love David's description emotionally here, so "what if you don't hold fast" - do we throw you overboard, do you walk the plank, and hope for Jonah's fate? lol - No, the Father had a plan for us, a mystery that took awhile to reveal, and a gift, knowing man would sin and stray (like dumb sheep) from fellowshipping w God in the garden, His Son Jesus. Jesus Saved, Jesus Saves, Jesus continues to Save all those who call upon Him, from now, til the day of the Rapture. No one can pluck out of his hand, those the Father has given Him. No one comes to Him, except by the conviction of the Holy Spirit. It is not natural for a man to wake up, and say, today I think I want God, out of the blue, without some inkling - God's spirit is leading him to solve the mystery and discover Him. It's more God meets man, than man meets God.

David, what about old age? I'm on fire for God still at 77 and I pray I always will be till my death. But I have know people in the last who were evangelical Christians, but in old age fell slowly into dementia and ended up railing at everyone, including God. I knew one old lady, a Pentecostal who used to speak in tongues, telling me that she stopped doing it because she was afraid that she was speaking in demonic tongues. I tried to reassure her but she gradually lost her mind. I still used to visit her in old people's homes, as she deteriorated she was transferred. Until one day a kind carer said to me " I think you'd be better to stop coming to visit Mabel. She only shouts and raves at you. Most of the time she is fairly quiet. I was very upset because I had known this old lady for a long time. She had been a good friend of my mother's and when my mother died I had wanted to keep in touch. And I had for several years. Thankyou again David. Love from Grace, born in England, now living in France

Pastor,…at 10 minutes in, when you quote John 10:28-29, when scripture says “nobody will snatch you out of my hand”, isn’t the point here that the decision to ‘leave God’s hand’ is NOT with the believer, but with some other power or entity? I believe that just as the decision is made by the individual to accept Christ and become born again (freedom of choice…not Calvinism in action), they can change their mind…even when they have tasted the goodness of the Lord and fall away. They aren’t falling,..they have changed their mind, even though the Spirit had given them so much to grow on in their faith walk. I’m not referring to those of us who have experienced a particularly hard time and ‘given up’ on both ourselves and God in the season…even hollering at Him when we’re feeling our worst. It is He that knows us, inside and out. He knows if we’ve blasphemed the Spirit to the point of choosing to change our mind,…or if we’re just cursing the moment. Mathew 10:22 says it specifically,..”he who ENDURES to the end will be saved”.

Amen, we can read in Revelations how some had the power over demons , and yet were cast into outer darkness, because Jesus never knew them. Paul said he had feet of clay. I think we have to understand that we don't become perfect people when we get saved. We have aspirations to be perfect as our father in heaven is perfect as Jesus admonished his disciples. I believe that being perfect as our father in heaven is that we understand that God's love is wrapped in forgiveness. We need to love ourselves and others with forgiveness. God says we should not judge. Judgement belongs to him. Rather we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. This question of "Once saved, always saved" is either based on fear of an individual fearing they may lose their salvation or is a question someone wanting to judge another that they have lost their salvation. It is not our place to judge, but to love. Repentance and forgiveness give us security in our faith. You said that we should not try to "cancel out each other." I believe that some people do try to punish their fellow Christians by judging them rather than offering them forgiveness. This is the risk if we try to judge each other rather than offering forgiving faith and love. I went through a very difficult time in life where others judged me without any basis of knowledge. I felt totally alone, but in that time came to have a true revelation of being held in the palm of God's hand. I believe we should be careful of judging. Arguing about "once saved, always saved," is pointless if we leave judgement to God. Only God knows the heart of each of us. Your extreme hypothesis of someone openly denying Jesus is unarguable but still, in this case, the judgement is God's not ours. Self-examination, for the person afraid of losing their faith, is a person with a desire to remain in the faith and we should uphold and encourage them.

'do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.' He's our perfect sacrifice but God isn't calling us to make sacrifices on this side of pentecost. He's asking for our heart. In psalms He says he didn't require a sacrifice but a contrite heart. If your heart is right before God you won't be trying to get away with something the scripture clearly talks about in the negative. That is the difference. Everyone makes mistakes. But if you're trying to make those mistakes you're making a willful decision to stand away from God. Those are forgetful hearers who willfully commit sin even though they know better. And know the Spirit isn't in agreement.

I don’t believe people can lose their c salvation but I do believe we can choose to walk away from Christ. That’s not losing, that’s choosing. I don’t believe in eternal security because then why are we encouraged to persevere? If we have eternal security there’s no need to persevere because we’ve got it made.
