Rumple as the dark one makes deals, hook was fearsome and Emma was actually very smart probably smarter then most dark ones and the reason I said that is because she fooled zelena Emma knew she would never go for a deal so she laced her food with dark magic to get the baby’s out of her she out smarted zelena even though zelena should’ve known better and been smarter not knowing she was dealing with a different Emma

They said the first dark one, Nimue was created 500 years ago right?... Rumpelstiltskin has been it for approximately 200 years... and we know Nemue was it for a while too... plus the one before Rumpelstiltskin... What I mean is, it's impossible to be that many in a so short period of time

Just a theory - it is possible that after the first person realized that it's possible to transfer the darkness and become the next dark one (and became the second dark one) there was a span of time where it was a free-for-all, with every evil person trying to become the dark one themselves, or trying to use the power for war, leading to a massive amount of changes until it got to rumple, at which point people were either too fearful of its power to become the dark one, or rumple was powerful enough to hold them off.

It's simpler than that. Nimue may have had all the power at the start. But she lacked the wisdom and knowledge. So one else smart enough or lucky enough could get the dagger and kill her. She may not have know it was even possible. Tack on the guilt she may have felt from her evil deeds. Then the next person has the knowledge they possess and the knowledge Nimue possessed. Look at Emma. All that innate power but without the training from various teachers, her magical skills are ineffective. So the shortcomings and each new Dark one gets them killed but it does expand their knowledge making the next one more dangerous then the last. Then we come to Rumple. He stole the power to see the future. This partially allowed him to plan his next moves years at a time. He explored various means to reunite with his son. This gave him a goal that could exist beyond getting more power. He survived as long as he did due to fate + skill + circumstance. Once his personal goals were achieved though. He struggled. Eventually being more willing to die. So it's not that it was impossible to be so many but that certain Dark Ones were far more dangerous that allowed them to play the game longer. Remember that Rumple eventually gets the whole pot through his planning even without his magic. That's the skill he acquired.

You know I never understood why they said that the dark ones were evil. As rumple says every deal rules wasn’t made by him. To me the dark ones just do what they want that’s it. Whether it be using their power for good or evil. Also what was so bad about Emma being the dark one everyone in the show made it seem like she was different. I know I wouldn’t mind being the dark one.😂

According to my observation, Emma was way smarter when she was the dark one. Also don’t forget she is the product of true love, so she was strong enough to hold or let the darkness control over her. In my opinion, Emma would be a smart-ass and a cunning dark one and it’s like I feel the same vibe to her and her evil version of mother (Snow White evil queen) when the author changed the whole story. It’s just that her being the dark one for a little time was quite disappointing and it felt like her potential of being the dark one was wasted for rescuing hook. Dark Swan rescuing dark hook was a good love story but it’s a joke to the whole plot story because it’s potential was wasted.

Yeah I agree the way they made Emma as the Dark One was just terrible. And her and her constant focus on her "True Love" was really the downfall of her character. I loved Emma in the first 3 seasons, in the 4th not that much but she still somewhat made sense but I really started hating her from season 5. In 5 she acts like a spoil brat who thinks she has every right to hurt and erase the memories of her family, then she is forgiven because apparently 'Heroes' have the right to do everything they want. I mean if you can't forgive someone you never trusted and never considered your friend (Rumple) then you can't just forgive Emma that easily knowing that she is a family member and that you definitely trusted her. (Just saying) Then because she really is crazy, stupid and selfish she believes that she has the right to be angry at Rumple for taking the Darkness back. Firstly that's none of her business. Secondly what gives her the right to threaten him about telling everything to Belle. What happens in their relationship is sill none of her business, plus what kind of person would threaten anyone to save the person they hate most and tried to kill them for centuries? Oh wait I know, a Villain. Thirdly, Hook just tried to kill your entire family but stops because he doesn't want to kill you? That's the kind of man that you love? Seriously? And now you bring that same entire family of yours to save him in the Underworld, even your son? WTH woman? And finally, I really believe that Rumple was entirely right to take back the Power. I mean they tell us that the Darkness would've been destroyed, but how can they be so sure it's never been done. The safest place to contain the Darkness is Rumple, so why are you all complaining? Especially knowing that the "Heroes" constantly needs him to help them with his powers.
