Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - How Historically Accurate Was It?
Like the stories in several of Tarantino’s films, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a fictional narrative set against a largely historical backdrop. The film intertwines real people into the story and uses the Charles Manson murders as a backdrop. Today we’ll discuss everything the movie got right and what they changed for the sake of entertainment.

It's not a movie, but Waco would be cool. The Veil was loosely based on Jonestown. The Ted Bundy movie on Netflix would also be cool. Yeah, I know that I've just suggested multiple true crime movies, but it fits with this movie. Of course, Wolves at the Door is also an option, given that it covers much of the same territory that this movie does.

Hal Needham lived with Burt Reynolds for 12 years not 5. He (Needham) talks about it in the Smokey and the Bandit documentary. (Documentary available on KZbin)

I like Quentin Tarantino’s take on this movie. It shows the possibility of what could happen if they picked a different house. How history would’ve been different.

I was really hoping that due to Rick and Cliff's highly inebriated states of mind in this scene, the Manson clan would get freaked out by their unexpected and unorthodox reactions to the intrusion, and move on to the next house thereby carrying out the murders as dictated by history. Rick and Cliff would've been indirectly responsible for the deaths, and would've become two anonymous footnotes of Hollywood history. It also would've been a subliminal little homage to another one of Tarantino's scripts - 1993's True Romance where Brad Pitt, once again, played a character that was so high he literally couldn't see 'death' standing two feet in front of him in the form of James Gandolfini's hit man. Instead, Pitt dodges that bullet by treating Gandolfini's presence in a comical, matter-of-fact way and politely sends him to another location to unknowingly kill Christian Slater and his friends.

I loved how Tarantino reduced the Manson family to a bunch of clown which they were. For so many years people have been saying Manson was some sort of genius while in reality he was a 33 year old ex con loser who got young dumb kids to follow him. He targeted young people who he know could be easily led and he had them do his dirty work. The two nights of those murders happened because nobody had expected anything like that. Before that nobody has seen that kind of brutality so they were not on guard for anything like that, nowadays with many people have guns for protection and house alarms it would be much harder to do what happened those nights. Tarantino did the same thing with the Nazis in inglorious Bastards.

I've been a Bruce Lee fan since I was a kid. Watched the movies, documentaries, interviews read books on him and honestly Tarantino wasn't far from how he acted when he started working in Hollywood. Bruce was a cocky little bastard because he didn't want to be pushed around by those people. So he would brag and show off.
