I dont think that episodes that focused on "non-important" side characters were a waist of time. They didnt further the plot, but they helped with the world building, which is just as important as the plotline imo. Those stories thouaght us so many things about this world: differnt princes of different fariytales came from different kingdoms, Rumpule made deals with people all across those kingdoms, we learn of how faries are assinged as gardians for different people, we learn that faries have their own lifes and conflicts and they wanted love too, we learn that dwarves arent just "the 7 dwarves", there is a whole sociaty of them and they work in a symbiotic relationship with faries. This information might not further the plot, but it flashs out the world, it makes us care about that world. I actually love the double identiy aspect of many of the chacaters, it makes the world feel very interconected.

I also noticed it wasn’t “built” into the curse. Emma and Snow found the scroll with Emma’s name written over and over again in Rumple’s cage, I believe Rumplestiltskin only wrote that after Snow told him the name, which only happened after Regina already had the curse. He wrote Emma multiple times on the scroll because he knew hearing it would trigger his memory during the curse.

I think some people were a little unclear about this in season one and the writers had to confirm it wasnt a theory but actual fact. but they doubled down on this being true in a fun season six episode where snow and charming wake up from the curse early and charming manages to also wake up gold by mentioning emma!

I think The Cinderella and Jiminny episodes serve many purposes. They demonstrate that Regina is slowly losing the power and control that she desperately clings onto and that Emma is symbolically or literally weakening the curse by being present. The Cinderella one also introduces the relationship between Emma and Mr. Gold, and develops the moral and heroic side of Emma.

Well... from our adult perspective, it doesn't make sense. But if you were a child or a preteen going rampant against your frenemy. It would make sense. Lol! Once years ago my best friend took away my love interest in Junior High school. In retaliation, I took away her pet and hid it at my home. Obviously, he was such a cutie, I couldn't part from him! My then guardians found out about our frenemy rivalry over a boy. And they told us both to stop acting like children, even though we were. And I had to return the dog. Which made me sad. So in other words, Emma and Regina are frenemies over Henry. If that makes any sense. 😂😂 If your bestie/frenemy took away your love interest, boyfriend, or even your brother, to get back at you over something innocent. You'll do something irrational like going over to her house with an electric saw and cut down her precious apple tree or orange tree.

1:52:56 In hindsight it would have been interesting if Regina was the one that told Henry she loved him and broke the curse that she herself cast. Emma convinced Regina that she really did love her son. That way, Henry's concern for Regina would have made more sense since Henry seemed to hate Regina in S1, and then cared about her in S2.

In later seasons, it isn't shown, but it is implied that Regina used him for killing innocents, framing jobs, and r***d him against his will for a very long time since the enchanted forest. The poor guy could not catch a break in his life. He was disposable, used, manipulated verbally and psychologically; and sexually abused by her. Again, this isn't fully said in the script, but after seeing how Regina sees him as a possession more than a lover. Her true love died a long time ago when Snow set them up to fail, hence Daniel dying. And in the modern Storybrooke the curse: Never to be Loved Curse. Then Regina realizes she will never be loved, then Emma will not be loved, and she kills off Graham. The chain continues. This is how I interpreted the later episodes.

I feel like the writers decided to pitch the whole "true love's kiss can free rumple" because we see these two kiss SO MANY times and not once does it look like it's having an effect on him. and I'd argue that him being able to do what he did at the end of the storyline involving his dad would mean that he truly loved Belle more than power. As a kid I thought Prince Charming and the various iterations of The Prince (who I all called Prince Charming since I didn't know the charming one was specific to Cinderella, literally TIL) were just the same guy with different hair color from one particular Disney movie to the next, not the same-same guy with memories and anything but more like some poor (but a little bit boring) dude trapped in some multiverse thing (though I obviously didn't put it in those words then). Like the Disney universe was American Horror Story if they just kept Evan Peters in the same exact role throughout all the seasons and only changed the rest of the cast and setting, and no matter how different the setting is, that dude just keeps showing up.

I love this show. Even when it fell off, the first season was so well done, I’ve cried so many times! Peaked at season 3 but my memories are so fond even to this day ❤

Once upon a time means so much to me. When it first came out I was about 5 but when I was in 1st grade I remember seeing my mom watching the 3rd season and getting really invested so I watched the first two seasons and fell in love. We would watch every episode when it came out at 8 and I remember begging my mom to let me stay up till 10 to watch the season 3 finale cause even 9 was late for little 6/7-year-old me. I had to promise that I would wake up for school and would go to sleep right after. Had to do all my bed stuff before 8 just to be sure. The memories this show holds. Now I think about it I was so young when I first watch it I didn't catch a lot of things just fairytales oooh.

I often forget just how good Emilie de Ravin was as Belle. Since OUAT eventually had to make all its female characters be 'strong' and feisty, the softness she brings to that role often goes overlooked. At first, the show understood Belle far better than Disney's own live action remake. She wasn't some tough rabble rouser - she was a sweet dreamer who could look past appearances and inspire goodness in other people. Emilie captured that perfectly
