My vote is for John Steinbeck. Of Mice and Men because it is short 😂 or The Grapes of Wrath.

I totally recommend Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden. They aren’t EASY content wise reads, but they are beautifully written and heart wrenching reads that are worth it. 😄♥️I can’t wait to hear your sci-fi/fantasy video, too! A fun project!

I 2nd East of Eden. I'm not sure if I'd suggest Grapes to you....

Thank you! I'm looking forward to everyone's input and hoping to find some new favorites along the way.

I'm going to suggest Villette by Charlotte Bronte. Tristan and the Classics, his wife likes it better than Jane Eyre.

I'm voting for Honoré de Balzac - La Peau De Chagrin (The Magic Skin also translated as The Wild Ass's Skin).

I don't know how the English translation would hold up (since I read it in French), but Eugenie Grandet by Balzac is worth a read

Have you read more than one Melville? Because I just read Bartleby the Scrivener and thought it was quite good (& short & sad).
@Coffee_and_a_Book4 ай бұрын
I read Bartleby, and also Billy Budd (or at least parts of it), in college. At the time, I thought Billy Budd was okay and I didn't care for Bartleby. Later I heard that Bartleby was more of a representation of how Melville viewed his life as a writer, so I have more of an appreciation for it now than I did when I read it.

@@Coffee_and_a_Book Billy Budd was just okay for me too.

I don't have any author to try and convince you of because of the ones you read I also don't have much interest in reading more books from them, haha.

I know I missed voting but just found your video. I have very mixed thoughts on Jane Eyre, but I did like Villette. It's been over a decade since I've read it so I can't vouch for the plot now though. 🤣 I completely support you not reading anymore Steinbeck! haha I've read two by him and I don't want to read any more. I just did a video on Grapes of Wrath. And a couple years ago I read Of Mice and Men. Not a fan.

I'll have to check out your Grapes of Wrath video. East of Eden ended up winning, so I guess we'll see how it goes 😅 I know other people have mentioned reading Villette and Shirley, but I've never heard specifics about them so I don't know how they compare to Jane Eyre. I may have to give Villette a try sometime.

@@Coffee_and_a_Book I'm very curious to hear your thoughts about East of Eden when you read it! I've been wanting to try re-reading Villette. Maybe I can read it this year!
@Coffee_and_a_Book3 ай бұрын
@BonnieNicoleWrites Will do. And I hope you enjoy Villette if you do re-read it! If I can, I would probably try to get to it this fall.

well, I won't be one to encourage you toward ANY more C.Bronte, Fitzgerald, Forster, Chopin, or Barrie (all I know of his are plays.) Kipling - Captains Courageous! John Steinbeck - East of Eden!
