Ohhhh Year of Rice and Salt sounds great. I looked up the Mars Trilogy and added it to my Want to Read. I need to finish the few books of Dune that i have left and i have The Suneater series then when I'm in the mood for scifi I'll pick up Red Mars.

I hope you enjoy Red Mars! It is very much hard sci-fi, but I love the ideas it explores with creating a colony on Mars. I will warn though, if you continue the series, there's one scene in Green Mars you will want to skip (I'll see if I can figure out where it is if you get to that one).

I printed out the cozy cottage prompts and your scavenger hunt and will be doing them as the books I read fit into them 😂 Also, Victober, same thing😅 I have books I have been saving & I will plug them into wherever as I go.🤗 I really hope we all have a similar experience to last years’ Spurgeon read-along. I’ve already said it, but I am so happy you’re joining us!

A lot of times I prefer fitting in books as I read them rather than planning them out ahead of time, but that doesn't make for very interesting TBR videos 😆 And I'm starting to think I should have done one book per prompt on my Fall Scavenger Hunt, because I'm already done with the scavenger hunt part 😅 I just need to finish the activities. I forgot about Victober until I filmed my TBR video. I've missed participating in it the last couple of years, so I need to figure out at least one book to read for it. I'm really excited to hear everyone's thoughts on Spurgeon! I've seen so many great quotes by him on IG, and I can only assume a full book of his thoughts will be even better.

I plan on doing the Cozy Cottage Readathon and Chautona Havig's Anne-tober. I forgot to mention those in my tbr video 🤪 I could fix it, but I already have it all edited. Some books I hope to read in October: Prose and Cons by Amanda Flower, Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin, and The Phantom Tollbooth.

I don’t find Ivanhoe too robinhoodish in most of its story. A knight not revealing his true identity is about as much as I would assert to be RH. It is ultimately about what holding to your values and beliefs can lead to and the struggle to tow that line in spite of the hardships.

I've heard people say they liked The Letter Tree more than Beyond Ivy Walls, but at this point I'm really starting to think these Christian romance books just aren't for me (or maybe it's just romance in general). I tried doing some language learning on Duolingo, but I figured out pretty quick that I need to do that with something else, like an actual book on learning the language or something. Duolingo just doesn't teach the rules, and the rules really help me figure things out until they start to come naturally. It's too bad that Duolingo doesn't offer ASL though. If I knew of a good way to practice ASL with other people, I would happily set something up. Would you think these anime that you mention are clean for teens? My kids like anime but don’t want any sexuality in them
@Coffee_and_a_Book
@Coffee_and_a_Book 19 күн бұрын
There's no outright sexual content in any of the ones I mentioned, though Gurren Lagann and Trigun do have what they call "fan service" (which generally means some scantily clad females depicted that way just for the male viewers). Arte, Snow White with the Red Hair, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, and Fairy Tail are all clean (from what I can remember) as far as language and they're lighter on the violence (Fairy Tail's is more fighting with magic too). I would not recommend Fate/Zero for teens as one of the characters is extremely deranged in a violent way. Fate/Stay Night, Afterlost, and Sword Art Online do have more violence in them (Fate/Stay Night especially), though SAO is more along the lines of Fairy Tale as far as there isn't much in the way of blood and gore, but the characters fight with swords and other weapons.
