I loved acid rap in high school but i feel like the album has aged terribly, i really feel like its rose-tinted shades when people reference that era of chance. How i describe chance is that his corniness became more and more apparent each album, with 10 day being not corny, acid rap being 3/10 corny, coloring book being 7/10 corny, and the big day being a straight up 10 on the corndog scale. When people call chance special i think they just miss a rapper that was popular in a different era who didnt shift their style to match shifting music tastes.

@@goal-goal-goalllllll don’t get me wrong, I like starboy as well but I discovered his music in the beginning when it was a lot darker than what he’s made since starboy and I related to kissland and the trilogy because of how I was living back then. So that shift he made from the starboy era onwards just didn’t hit the same way. We got a glimpse of his old sound with MDM, which I appreciated a lot but we haven’t had much of that since. But besides the personal reasons, I think it’s better is because from start to finish (minus live for) it’s a more cohesive body of work thematically, the songs blend in together perfectly with the transitions and his vocals were just godly.

Acid Rap came out in senior year. Had so much fun with my friends back then, doing reckless shit and thinking we were invincible. Looking back I cringe at a lot of things I did but I miss that feeling of "I'll be friends with these guys forever.". At 28 now I'm not as social as I used to be and get anxious in public so it's pretty nice to imagine a time I wasn't. Kendrick's Control verse blew us away, we listened to Yeezus for the first time together. Oxymoron era Schoolboy Q, Work REMIX and Shabba. Discovering Kendrick through MAAD city, all that shit man.

We like to talk about musicians as if they’re race horses or something. At the end of the day, they’re still just human. I’m probably gonna get ragged on for saying this but if you look back on Logic & Chance’s early discography, they were both incredible, especially for their age. Regardless of where things might be now, I think both have already proven what they can do. It’s kinda like the Nickleback effect..they’ll get bullied because it’s the popular thing to do but chances are, they’ll never lose their cult fan base. BUT I do see why people view them as corny now, they’ve both done several things to make me cringe.

It's hard to be any sort of artist in this world, but sadly ppl get caught up on the whole 'fame' aspect of it. Man is making music and has a loyal fan base, he may not be at the top but that's successful IMO. There's over 8 billion people now, it's something to be proud of to stand out even for a little while. Very good video and cool topic. I was wondering if Chance would ever bounce back from his album flop, and it seems like he still hasn't. I remember the NeedleDrop half apologizing to Chance hoping he could brush himself off and come back with an album that redeemed his reputation and career, but I don't think that's happening. Chance's self esteem got shot to hell and it leaves me wondering if he even could make a good come back album. Chance's old manager, who ended up suing him, said he'd been super busy during the album creation and didn't dedicate enough time to the project. Allegedly he told Chance to not rush the release, but Chance released it unpolished anyway. I wonder if the album would be any better if more time was given. But I'm personally doubtful since some of the song's on the album were just corny and things like "I love my wife" just came off as overly artisan.

Honestly, I'm not that sad about Chance falling off. His music was fun but it wasn't anything I ever considered among the greatest, and it was super annoying that Kanye was using Chance as an excuse to pretend like he's actually from Chicago when he's from fucking Atlanta, and everybody in Chicago hates Kanye already.

@@KWILKSP Chance said he met Kanye, and that Ye was a big influence of his growing up. Chance used to talk about how the first album he ever owned was College Dropout and he would play it on repeat. They made friends for obvious reasons but Kanye is always on that bullshit because he wanna be Chicago native so badly and everybody in the Chi knows Ye is a faker from Georgia, so he tries to surround himself with music artists from the Windy City to make it look like he's legit.

Honestly rapping shouldn't be a "career" because true longevity is lightning in a bottle and most rappers these days don't have it. Instead they should get their bread and make smart investments to make generational wealth

I've always thought this. And then they can just casually make music when they feel but not have to worry about the money. Rihanna is honestly so smart for what she has done. Her investments in her beauty brand and clothing brands have her set for life. She can just drop something whenever she wants and her established fan base will still eat it up. Even if it's 10 years from now. She's living the dream.

@@chenanigansRihanna isn’t a good comparison she’s one of those lifetime artists.. her fans still waiting on a new album even though she lasted dropped in 2016. She still has an active fan base “Rihanna navy” those weird ass stans. But no doubt she’s smart for what she did.

For me it was how they marketed the big day. It was supposed to be his debut studio album and that he had poured hours of his life into it. It comes out, it flops, and people start retracting that it was just another mixtape.

Yo, real talk. Chance still got time. It’s too soon to tell whether he fell off completely. He just needs to keep putting out music and stay true to himself. The culture is toxic but he has an opportunity to create a lane for himself. Alit of people are sick of the toxicity in hip hop. Especially guys who have grown up, become dads, husbands and are actually happy. He needs to lean on his industry friends for features and keep delivering verses. The tide will turn.
