I visited Italy few times already particularly for our TV show and exploring history in Sicily, Italy, is like a crash course in time travel - one minute, you're admiring ancient ruins, and the next, you're getting lost in a charming cobblestone alley trying to find your gelato supplier from the 18th century! It's an amazing country.

Man, I am so glad you got there. My husband and I both wondered if you had been there as we walked around in 2021. So amazing!! Now if you're still in Palermo, visit as many churches as possible. They look simple outside, but once you step inside, they are some of the most ornate we have ever seen. Enjoy!!

Siracusa is definitely worth a stop. There's a church there that is basically a converted Roman temple. You can see the columns and the internal structure to this day. I also loved wandering the back streets of Palermo. There's also a gorgeous cathedral near Palermo up on a hill with great golden mosaics built by the Normans called Monreale.

Love it. Turns out my grreat grandma was Italian. But I went to Greece 40 yrs ago and felt I’d come home before I knew this. Been many times all over. Overwhelming. I’m Scottish.. she married my Scots great grandpa, but her parents may have come with her. Lots of Sardinians came to Scotland in 1890’s. So I think my instincts tell me Her ancestors may have been Greek/Italian mix. Must find out.

My grandparents , parents were from Sicily then moved to Calabria, my last name is Cannizzaro, I have been to Pisa, Italy and Rome but never Sicily, nice to be able to see where they came from, so much history

One of the most amazing churches I have ever seen is the Cappella Palatina in Palermo. Highly recommended! Oh, and as for snacks, I highly recommend also the arancini - delish!

As a Sicilian I am happy that everything went smoothly and you enjoyed everything. clearly Sicily offers many things if you explore it carefully. from Norman castles to the Greeks and prehistory. furthermore the sea is very beautiful especially on the islands. Hi Gabriel, that was spectacular and you were right it's a mirror image of both the Acropolis and Parthenon it's a shame they can't re-erect the Zeus Temple. I didn't see the huge Atlas statue that once guarded Sicily's temple of Zeus supposedly it will be re-erected. Of course, Sicily is well known for the Mafia or the black hand many were Sicilian immigrants and there is some history there with a strong relationship with America. I also see the famous Sicilian pizza different from the Neapolitan pizza which is a triangular shape slice the Sicilian slice is a Rectangular to a square shape slice.

The coin character looks almost like Medusa (the Greek Gorgon) with her snake hair. Medusa is the Symbol of Sicily, or “Trinacria”, as displayed on the Sicilian flag.

When you go to Sardinia Gabriel you can visit a village there where people live longest in the whole world.

It’s not just one village, it’s the high population of centenarians on Sardinia as a whole island. Also some areas in Japan and Nepal where people are living to 100-125. My neighbor from Nepal mentioned many in his old village lived to see 110.

I went there 4 years ago to visit my cousin who live there. My family came to Canada from Sicily many years ago, but I still have some family there. I highly suggest you visit Siragusa/Ortigia (Syracuse in english) which also has a lot of Greek influence. It's all the way to the bottom right side of Sicily though. Taormina is also beautiful, my only gripe is that it's way too touristy. 1 day is more than enough to visit. I also loved Palermo, very gritty and chaotic. You are definitely with locals there, but it's not for everyone. If you want to see beautiful Roman mosaics, villa del casale is also another great option which is near piazza Armerina (central sicily).

Temple of Concordia is considered the best preserved Greek temple, this predates the Roman Republic, or perhaps is equal in age to their birth. Syracuse was a city-state, in the same way that Sparta was, and I believe these two did battle. They likely had numerical superiority but I really don't know..

Sicily was settled by the ancient Greeks from places like Corinth in the 8th century BC they traded with the local people and built cities and monuments, the whole of Sicily and Southern Italy was called Magna Graecia (Great Greece), the culture was Greek and the monuments you are standing in are testament to the greatest civilization that ever was!, Rome was a village at the time!.: Enjoy.

If those are cart ruts wouldn't the horses pulling the carts ware down the center before the cart wheels would make the ruts? I live in an Amish community and most of the roads have a small rut on the side but its from all the horse hooves not the wheels. But maybe they didn't use horses or any animal to pull the carts.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos Gabriel I don't think those were regular cart ruts that you pointed out ... either they had carts that would go up and down in there to carry things back and forth regularly sliding back and forth to deliver something ... like maybe want to pulley system or my guess is it was some kind of irrigation system ? ... or maybe even had plumbing in it but those pipes no longer are there but perhaps there two pipes , one on each side ? We know that some of the wealthy had plumbing in the ancient Roman Empire back in those days . Didn't they have any employees there or guides who could answer some questions ? I thought that statue laying on its side was old until you said it's probably modern and yeah I would have liked to have known what the story is about that . Thanks for taking us there with you and the food looks great .
