I sang 'Breng Hem Thuis' in my singing class in central/centraal London today, IN NEDERLANDS after a vist to the Dutch Church in Londen,which has been there since 1565, but got destroyed by the Nazis in 1940 but was rebuilt. If only Dutch people would realise that some of us ( English peole), speak Dutch , without the American Englsh you expect us to understand. and we even have a Dutch Pub here, in Central London , called, De Hems' in Maclesfield Stret, so look it up. Wel te rusten then, but speak English pelase,not stuid American English , which is now 400 years old, like Zuid Afrikaans in Nederland.

It's because the influence of the USA in the Netherlands is so much larger than the UK. Think of all the movies, TV shows and songs! So American English is much more dominant than British English. I think in Dutch schools British English is taught, but the interference with American English is there (words like "colour" vs "color"). Zuid-Afrikaans is a daughter language of Dutch. It's actually Dutch as it was spoken in the 17th century by the colonists in South Africa and has evolved since then in a separate way. Most Dutch people can understand Zuid-Afrikaans and most Afrikaners can understand Dutch, but they are definitely two different languages.

I’m curious why they are singing this in English, the Dutch version is as good (or even better) than the English. I’m English as well BTW and admire all the different versions of the songs in different t languages.
