I had a huge cheat day 3 days ago. Had a birthday celebration and drank all day and night and ate large amount of horrible carb filled food. I’m guessing I had 6000-7000 calories. I gained 6 pounds of bloat. Help!?!
@boxadorsrus5991
@boxadorsrus5991 3 жыл бұрын
@Thomas DeLauer I appreciate all you do to cover all aspects of ketogenic eating, intermittent fasting (IF), and metabolic flexibility. For me personally, I tried to go back onto carbs for a month after almost six months of keto/IF. I had lost sixty pounds in that time. I increased my healthy carbs at first, but within a few days I was back to consuming fast food, chocolate muffins, and regular sodas. Could well be "sugar addiction". Anyway, I gained thirteen pounds in nine days, my blood pressure spiked, and I went back to keto/IF feeling dejected but wiser. Now I'm back on a pattern developed by KetoKamp in which I do keto/IF for five days, then do a 24 hour water fast and then bump my healthy carbs and resistant starches up to between 100 and 150 grams of carbs one day per week. I continue to watch you daily because you are not skittish about showing numerous aspects of eating and fasting, even if that information sometimes contradicts other information you post. Your attention to detail has helped me tremendously. Thanks!

I’m dealing with this now- been eating keto and I.F. for two years, dropped 60 lbs and resolved my Type 2 diabetes (no more meds!). Moved back to the States in May, went on a three week road trip and ignored all I’d learned- it was a massive “cheat month”. I feel awful now, and latest checkup shows liver issues. I guess this is how one learns, but never again. I was feeling so good and healthy, and now have to work my butt off to get back to that…

I watched a video of yours on headaches and went out and purchased: Electrolyte powder, Magnesium, CoQ10, and B complex. I have not had one headache since. Thank you so much. I have also lost 11lbs. I intermittent fast around 18/6 for 5/6 days a week. I eat 2 meals in my window. I do have 'different ' food on Saturday though. I also IF on this day and maybe eat more on this day, probably an extra 1000 calories or so. It works for me and does not halt my progress and gives me something to look forward to.

I've done keto for about months. a couple weeks ago I did a cheat week. I didn't binge on the calories, just switched it back to carbs for 4 days to enjoy what I've missed. 3 of those 4 days I felt like hell and it took several days to get keto rolling again. Makes me scared to change it up the next time. Oddly enough, when I started keto I never went through the keto flu

I slipped for three weeks this summer. Gained back ten lbs after losing 40 in four months. I was swollen, joints hurt and had zero energy, especially the last week. Gained back 10 lbs. I’ve been back on keto for eight days now. The first three I allowed myself about 2200 calories while keeping carbs under 30, so it wouldn’t be too difficult to become fat adapted again. I also started mct oil in the morning. The last five I have kept under 1500. This morning I weighed myself and it was ALL gone, plus another pound! Don’t give up, just hop back on!!! You know what also wrecks your metabolism? Diets that mimic starvation states by depriving you of glucose such as keto and carnivore. If people just avoided unsaturated fats like PUFA and dietary additives like gums and emulsifiers they would get all the benefits of these diets without the side effects and would be more sustainable.

There is more information that supports the importance of eating more for hormonal balance. The body is working more to prepare for menstruation by building progesterone the week leading up it. So yes, we need more fuel during this time of the month. Yet, it's more helpful to give our bodies more quality foods, including some good carbs, so that the body is able to prepare in a healthy way, which can lead to an easier period.

Thomas, first, great channel I've watched for awhile. Today is a great day! 1 year and 17 days I weighed 345 pounds and made the commitment to make a change and start my journey. Today I weighed in at 243. 102 Pounds!!!! Not done yet. *****VERY IMPORTANT RELATED TO THIS CONTENT****** I have been know to cheat. It happens from a habit of when I watch a movie something tasty would be great to snack on. In the last 4 months I have had six episodes of severe cold sweats, panic attacks (more like terror) and would not be able to sleep for up to two days. I had no clue what this was and in the last episode I suspected something metabolic from my "movie cheat" I ate a plate of pizza rolls. 30gms of carbs. My suspicion was this....I have no sugar stores because I'm carnivore dominant, my carbs are less than 3% and I do NO SUGAR. Ingest carb heavy cheat you release insulin to deal with immediate glucose and this will create excess insulin which is converted to epinephrine and the natural speed rush is on.

Don’t care, I’m hungry. Graaarr. Also, this study seems suspect. Tiny sample size and of course your post-prandial glucose goes up if you eat a shitload of food. They didn’t seem to bother measuring anything a day or two after resuming normal eating. I suspect it’s much like a fat-adapted person who eats a lot of carbs on occasion. You can go back to a keto state much faster than someone eating carbs all the time.

Oh, c'mon. This is NOT what most people do when they have a cheat. Most of us have a cheat "meal" (a party, dinner out, etc.) not a whole day food orgy, stuffing ourselves on 6,000 cals. Seriously? Who does that? Someone who is highly adapted to IF and caloric restriction wouldn't even be 'able' to eat that much food without getting sick. I'd like to see a more meaningful study on a real world cheat-- one meal a week that's a lot higher in carbs and cals than normal.

I miss bread (sandwiches!!!) and potatoes. Keto is doing wonderful things for me and I won't cave but the urge is there. The Keto "bread" is tolerable but not the same thing. Plus, it raises BG a lot faster than strict Keto foods.

When I gave up sugar, which I had to have, I couldn’t eat anything sweet as I kept thinking about other sweet things. It was like my brain just couldn’t finally get over them. Once I got rid of all the sweet stuff, it went away. Not eating the sugar wasn’t enough for me. Maybe the keto bread is doing more harm than good? It could be triggering you to think about bread more?

I completely fell off of keto a month ago after getting food poisoning. I had lost 50 pounds in 2.5 months. I don’t know how, but I haven’t gained any weight. I’ve actually lost a few pounds still. I can’t wrap my brain around it. Back on keto/dirty keto for a week or so, then into full keto. But my question is, why didn’t I gain any weight? I wasn’t really that active either. I’m stumped.

My cheat meal, is 2-4 times a year, I'll have a piece of keto cheesecake. Why would I go back to what was killing me. Hey Thomas I can slap together a hypothesis on unaware codependency to the food that kill. Bad relationship skills aka more food cheat days. Lack of self awareness and emotional immaturity = I don't know why I'm not loosing weight. Just one of many possibilities. When you cheat you cheat on yourself.

One Cheat meal weekly under 1000 calories is where I'm at if I even cheat. 1 cheat out of 42 meals a week hasn't had a negative impact. I'll have a burger and fries or similar cheat meal on Saturday evening after a day of yard and house work. In Tracking that work it's typically right around 800-1000 calories. Then on Sunday I'll use the surplus macros to fuel a great workout.

I was burning 2300 cals a day through exercise, on omad, keto and losing no weight on month 4. I ate chicken, french fries, brown pita, homous & pinkberry. lost 0.7kg the next day. It's a leptin issue. sometimes you need a cheat meal.

Three things: What was the thing about forearms to do with? If one were to stuff themselves with a large amount of food is it then better that it’s all carbs rather than a mix of carbs and fat? And how long should it take to reverse this on average?

Interesting. I went Keto almost 100% for 4 months and lost 2.5 stone. the past 2 months I've went low carb most days, but allow myself cheat days... or som,etimes cheat weekends... I've maintained my weight through the 2 months, so this is very much doable for me!

Hah! Wow! Timing. After three years of being keto & Omad, I finally had a full two days of binge cheating a couple days ago. I ate a delivery pizza for my meal one day, and the next ate two hamburgers, some onion rings and some pastries. None of that was significantly more than my regular calories however, just high carb. The next day was back to keto. Truth, I felt no different any of those days. I should perhaps note that I reached my maintenance weight a couple years ago. I'm staying on keto and OMAD for other health reasons, not weight loss.

This study doesn't make much sense, as there's no multi day follow-up for actual short term effects. Also, the food breakdown does not state what kinds of foods were eaten (like what kind of fat), which can impact how bodies respond. It was also such a small sample size without a decent study time. Any kind of dietary change in calories and food, it takes a few weeks for the body to adapt. What you eat in one day (a cheat meal) does not affect your overall health; it's the habits that last for weeks to months to years. This study seems dubious and really inconclusive...

i have been clean keto for almost two years... haven't gotten to the point of toggling. went from athletic 345 to 270. the past few months i have gone absolutely ham once or a week or every two weeks...whole pizzas, maybe an ice cream cone after, etc. and the next day i always feel great and see no difference in water retention, etc. i have no interest ever in doing it more than part of that lone day so maybe that is the key.

3300/day? Damn. I just did a 2 month diet. I started at 500 calories below my maintenance of 2250 calories slowly reducing till the last 2 weeks was 1450 calories/day. Eating at my 2250 calorie maintenance felt like I was pigging out. I did lose 20 Lbs so It was worth it.
