They did Niall and Louis dirty until midnight memories tbh. You know, how you noticed Louis act 'high' in the Torn perrformance. He wasn't even singing, he was lipsyncing cuz he wasn't there for rehearsals as he got bitten by a sea urchin earlier and was in the hospital. Louis did mention this subtly in the movie, when he said that he's started sliding more towards the writing part of the song as he can't give into the singing part much at that moment, which makes me so fucking sad.

They all had potential at the beginning, that’s why Simon put them together. But it’s a fact that Liam sang most of their songs at the beginning, it’s because he had the most stable vocals I.e. near perfect pitch control. This carried on through their first album when he started 13 out of 15 songs. But once they all developed their vocals more they got more parts. I think by their second album the vocal parts could have been spread more evenly to include Louis and Niall.

We know Liam can sing, but why didn’t they put him as a solo artist or created a duo with just him and Harry if they didn’t even want to give the others a chance to sing while on the xfactor? It’s so unfair and it doesn’t even make sense!!! I’m glad we got to see Louis and Niall shine through the years leading to them solo now but back then what was the point of forming this group of these specific young boys if you just wanted to focus on two of them?

In the torn performance, Louis had hurt his foot and he didn’t have time to rehearse so he was just mouthing along and not actually singing 😭 sucks that Niall and mostly louis didn’t get any real solos till the grenade Proformances and they only let Liam and Harry sing. Anyways, the cloths, the hair, the “dancing”, and Zayn echoing is all sending me to oblivion. It’s so funny ajjajjajaj

He did get some here and there but someone always had to ruin it and harmonize with him that you couldn’t even hear his voice by himself!! Like the solo he got during the second live performance I think? I don’t really remember which one and I’m too lazy to check again but he had a solo and Liam kept harmonizing with him. But the thing is Liam’s mic was louder, it just sounded so wrong! It’s so unfair that they didn’t even give him his own moment to shine.

@@clarehaynes2901 Liam’s vocals never ruin a solo when he’s backing. This uneven distribution of their solos really adversely affected Liam. Because some directioners like yourself just resented him because Niall and Louis weren’t given enough solo parts. But you guys need to stop attacking Liam for it, because if you say Liam backing ruins any solo then you’re wrong. Louis has a beautiful voice, but you have to accept that at the beginning his vocals weren’t stable enough especially in live performances, where he says himself that he was very anxious about.

It was the same for Little Mix as well. They all got solos but the spotlight was purposely only shined at Perrie cuz she had the high notes at that time too. One of the judge even asked her to be the lead singer right infront of the other girls on stage which is sick. I'm glad Tulisa always supported the girls and didn't give in to the useless demands of other judges or public.

Sorry guys but back then Liam’s vocals were the most stable, that’s why he sang the most and led the most in the xfactor and UAN eras. But Harry sang just as much and Zayn as well. I definitely think that by their second album the vocal parts could have been more evenly distributed to include Niall and Louis. I really think Simon wanted to market them as an authentic band and he wanted them to be taken more seriously in the music industry, hence he focused on their vocals. I really believe that’s why Liam’s voice was show cased more. The vocals that fans love the most, don’t always equal what is considered to be vocal technical proficiency in the music industry.

Zayn didn’t get to sing much either, unfortunately, but it’s still more than both Louis and Niall. It was just Liam and Harry for the most part… might as well just form a duo of the two of them. I watched their whole xfactor journey, with all the behind the scenes and that (those are actually my favorite parts, lol, I don’t like the live performances for obvious reasons but I love behind the scenes cause I get to see all of their personalities. And Louis always had his own segments, which is the best part) but the live performances always get me so mad and frustrated because the part distribution was so unfair! I hate it..

I love these performances. You can really see by just watching these performances how they came together and see their growth as a band. They yelled so well. They sang a couple of very well known British songs, including songs from Elton John and the Beatles for example. Not sure if you knew that. Mmm. Well. Louis had stepped on a sea urchin and had spent the day at the hospital instead of practising the song. His foot was swollen and I'm guessing he was on pain meds. Also. At the judges Houses, when they had just formed, Simon talked about how Harry has that special charm, and that interviewers (media) are going to love him. He was already showing who was his leading man. About Liam (I don't remember which episode probably before putting them in a group) he said something about how he had reached his full potential and didn't see him develop from where he was which by my interpretation was him saying he had no interest in Liam even though he was by far the best singer among them at that point and he lead the other boys through the competition by starting the songs and was sort of like the group conducter. (Liam also started most songs on their first album.) Zayn became the "human echo", they actually made that into a skit... Niall got few solos but Louis got none... Well, one small together with Liam. It would have been a dream to get a solo from each of them like you said on the "You are so beautiful" line. Did Niall and Louis even sing at all on that song?? And yeah, Louis not getting any solos on X Factor started the whole Louis can't sing thing. Do you see why Louis having a solo, however short, means a lot to his fans (speaking as his fan)? Yeah. We were robbed. Of him and Niall both. :( The spotlight was always going to be Harry. That's not a slight against Harry, but it just feels so unfair and unneccessary as the others had something special too. But one lead/focus is the way most boybands works. So. Yeah that's just how it is.

Simon always showed interest in Liam, but he didn’t pick him as a solo contestant because he felt that Liam was one dimensional. Haters always used this to attack Liam, although it was something Simon said literally over ten years ago. None of the guys were picked as solo contestants, so they all must have lacked something as far as Simon was concerned. But still Simon felt that they all had the xfactor and potential which is why he didn’t let them go and formed a band. Liam wasn’t their conductor, he just has and had near perfect pitch control right from the beginning, so as a business man Simon was always going to pick him to start their songs. But there was never any doubt that Harry had the most fans.

Actually Niall and Louis didn’t want to sing solo because they were too nervous and scared at the moment. They of course grew out of it and got more and more confident but at first they didn’t want to sing solo at all

23:10 Well, this is also a branding strategy. Liam was literally branded as "the one who starts the songs" (Although I haven't heard anyone noticing that) and then moving to Harry, giving Zayn the bridge. This trend is really significant in the first 2 albums.

That’s not branding though, Liam started the songs because he had the most stable voice, he sang the most harmonies and backing to keep songs on pitch in live performances. The branding was Harry being known as ‘the sexy one’, Louis being ‘the sassy one’, Zayn being ‘the mysterious one’ etc etc. Plus the way they were styled I.e. plaid shirts for Liam, strips for Louis etc etc

@@rachit6366 Dude… anyone would be hard press to sell me anything in this fandom, there’s too much speculation and theory. Liam led songs mostly at xfactor and in the first and second albums, hence giving the other guys time to develop their voices. Zayn had a beautiful voice right from the beginning, but nerves affected him really badly. Even if he hadn’t spoken about his nerves himself, you can clearly hear it in his voice. A friend of mine also has near perfect pitch control (just like Liam), having vocals that are not affected by nerves is important to start songs under pressure, it provides stability for the others that follow. Also Liam had the most experience performing live… that’s just fact. After his first try at xfactor he got vocal coaching and started gigging. It made business sense for him to start the songs in the fetus era, especially if as I suspect Simon was planning on taking them global. Simon pushed their most stable vocals and their most popular band member ego Lirry. The guys were all branded in respect of their personalities and look, but singing first (in my opinion) is not branding.

My opinion (again just an opinion) is that Liam started the X factor songs because he had already had 2 years of stage experience and was very comfortable in front of large crowds plus he had the voice to be able to start. Harry quickly got that stage presence as well. It’s a known fact that Zayn was VERY shy and had to work up to his confidence even though his voice was amazing.

I know I'm a little late but it has to be said in defense of the Our Song performance it was actually Harry in the beginning without the spotlight not Louis. Also Niall had a solo in the xfactor before Harry did. Harry went like 4-5 songs before getting a solo. Probably because if you compare the group audition to his first solo his voice had changed so they needed to wait for that whole process. Wouldn't want a voice crack/pitch during his solo lol.

In the band the fan favourite was Harry, the one with the strongest vocals was Liam, therefore it was inevitable from a money making machine point of view that they were going to be promoted the way they were. Simon just promoted what he believed to be the money making elements of the band. It doesn’t make it right, but some fans resented Liam and Harry because of this. Yes, Harry and Liam weren’t everyone’s favourites, but the same applies to Louis and Niall, so it’s unfair to resent Harry and Liam for the choices of their management.

Fans of Louis and Niall resented him and as their albums progressed he was used more for harmonies and backing, so that he could pitch correct in live performances when required. Their management could have killed his voice with the demands made on him. Thank goodness he was wise and favoured falsetto over belts, otherwise he would have had no solo career to speak of….. although he said in the Steven Bartlett podcast recently that he never intended to pursue a solo artist career, which I can believe.

I’m sorry to hear about that but in my opinion, getting too much attention and moments to shine is better than getting no attention and zero spotlight on the show. Especially since the X factor was what started it all for them. No conspiracy here, these 2 guys were just selling more views, that's it. The TV show makers analyze all feedback and just do what they have to do to get more views. Btw, Niall had quite large solos on 2 or 3 of their performances but Louis had none(( Harry didn't have any solo till 5th live show because he got severe stage fright it made him sick. Liam was the only singer in the group who had vocal lessons before the show, sure he was the most reliable to start the song. The way Harry and Zayn could match him and the whole band was so synced in in just few weeks is kinda amazing. Their harmonies were really poor at the beginning and quite average at the end of the show. I don't think they seemed that promising to the show creators at the beginnig. It's the way they worked hard right after the show that made them who they were. Their sound at the X Factor tour just a 1.5 months after the season's end was amazing! And both Niall and Louis had solos there btw)) So it was all the tv show making, you can't force the tv watchers to like all boys equally, they picked their faves and the show makers just followed that. It changed when they started a real career. Thank god, this is one of the most harmonic band of all time, they all had their time to shine, they all wrote, they all had their signature songs throughout 1D cadence and naturally they all have successful solo careers now. It's really rare when things like that happen, usually it's just this one guy/girl who hets big and the others are forgotten and have to start amother careers. I'm glad it's not the case with 1D, I love them all))

i definitely don’t resent them at all. i have nothing against them as they are doing what is told, basically employees. i just wish they all had the equal amount to sing on the XFactor, as they were put into the group on there merit to sing. I understand that some were better than others at the time, but I just feel as if on a show like that they should try to have it equal. Once they started making their own music, i’m totally fine if one person is singing more than the rest, as at that point it’s established and they’re all in it together. just like louis & liam writing most of the songs. i just wish xfactor was a bit different. i definitely understand your comments. thank you!

I get what you are saying, but the xfactor is not just about vocals, all the guys had immense potential and brought something special to the band. But regardless of having the xfactor, they had to be marketed above just their manufactured elements, so Simon promoted vocal proficiency and the fan favourite above everything else. He’s a business man so we can dislike him, but he was tapping into the money making elements of the band.

Mr. “whatever gets me money is the best option” despite how damaging this can be to artists and their self-confidence when they’re just used for their cute looks and funny personalities. Maybe that would’ve worked on some other talent show that pushes the comedy aspect but from what I know xfactor is mainly for those who love SINGING.

Not to be that guy but it’s true that Liam, zayn and Harry were much better then Niall and louis. They’re still good, much better then I’ll ever be but I think Simon made a mistake in making them a group of 5. Obviously it ended up working out great but in that very moment those two were miles behind the other three.

When you watch this x factor thing you understand that no matter how talent they are, they had a plan to make harry the star & the most popular one (with all the love to him but he's ot the only talented or handsome one) Like even at the very beginning liam &eayn was as talented if not more

I feel like Harry tried to over-do it at times in this, like he’d try to outshine everyone and try to do like a run or something but it’d turn out to be flat/sound like he’s just screaming. And I wasn’t really a fan of when they’re all supposed to be harmonizing together but his mic is the loudest, his voice sounds so out of place. Liam was clearly the one who had the most control in his voice back then..

You’re so right. Liam definitely had the most beautiful and technically proficient vocals in the beginning. I think Harry had the most fans even then, so they tried to push him to sing more, even though his vocals weren’t as stable. But they usually gave his parts a little more musical instrument support, so even if he shouted or sounded unstable, it was somewhat masked.

I do think Zayn had a more stable voice than Harry, though, he definitely should’ve gotten as much if not more lines than him. But you know how it is, Harry fan favorite Styles should always be in the spotlight cause it’s business more than talent for Mr. Simon Cowell.

Its funny. 1d fans love to moan about Harry, Liam and Zayn singing too much whilst having pity parties for Louis and occasionally Niall. But they never throw pity parties for Niall, Zayn and Harry when their songwriting was kept off albums in favour of Louis and Liams...and as 1d fans say Louis was the boss, I guess it was mostly him not letting the others be included because, as he said, he wanted to shine in it. Its a strange double standard.

I’m pretty sure Louis isn’t the one choosing what gets put on the album and what doesn’t. They all wrote songs, their management/label decide what to keep and what to throw away. They did include songs Harry and Niall wrote on. Though I remember Zayn once said they wouldn’t let him keep any of his songs bcz they weren’t the style they were looking for. Louis and Liam wrote a lot together so it’s inevitable that they had the most songs to get accepted. The songs they wrote were probably the ones that fit whichever style their management was looking for the most. Don’t get so rude and defensive for no reason, blame whoever chooses what songs go on their albums. Not Louis or Liam.

What are you talking about? It wasn't Louis' fault, they all wrote songs but a lot of them weren't accepted by their management. I guess the ones written by Louis and Liam were the style, the management was looking for. Before blaming someone, be sure and aware of what you're saying.

I know that them getting more lines wasn’t their fault but that of whoever decided on the line distributions. You can defend Harry and Liam from the unnecessary hate without hating on other artists for such a thing they’re not even in charge of.
