amazing lesson! and in my opinion it shows you that the prince of the styles for a bassist is the FUNK style because the 16th notes and syncopated rhythm make the bass give its best! blues 4:58 rock 7:12 funk 10:16

Another awesome lesson James! Breaking down sounds we can already visualize (hear) and giving them a name is a great way to teach! Really like the w-h-h-h as another way to think about it too. Cheers!

Nice lesson! Am I right thinking that in the first example, you're playing the notes 'swung' rather than straight 8ths? That delayed second and 4th note in each bar really gives it the style needed?

Hey James what about that Aguilar head match with that mark bass cab makes you gravitate to that setup it’s very similar to mine in it’s entirety I got a cmd121p plus 121cab and a American elite jazz bass that crazy as it sounds is worth roughly double what I paid for it now so crazy I hope you see this I’ve never got to try Aguilar anything I’ve had pjb amps 2 of them they got stolen some acoustic stuff and ampeg I’ve tried just about everything but Aguilar literally everything but there stuff I wanna know what I’m missing

Your Sadowsky sounds nice! Is it an ash body? It sounds like it 🤔 Isn’t it amazing how much the wood makes a difference in tone? It’s very apparent with a bass. Not so much at all with guitars.

The biggest difference between PJ basses is where the J pickup is located. This one as you can see has the J pickup located nearer to the P than most. Having owned a PJ with a J pickup exactly halfway between scratchplate and bridge it may seem like an irrelevant (or subtle) distinction but it really isn't and I would say here is the ideal position, giving more "body" to the J when soloed

Hi James. I followed you for a while and also took one of your interactive on-line (Blues) course but have had some health difficulties and have been out of the loop. When I played this video and heard you talking it was like being in touch with an old friend again. I'm 67 and sentimental, what can I say. Anyway I was wondering if the decision to not play the 3rd but to play the -2nd on the way back down to the root a technical choice or just going by what your ear told you. I noticed on the way up to the 4th you played the whole step followed by half steps. I know that one of the minor scales (melodic minor?) descends different than it ascends. Is that the reason? . Am I splitting hairs or what? Thanks for the tip. Patrick,
