One Easy Secret to Winning at Video Poker!

Know this is over a year ago but I used your suggestions for Ultimate X last week when on a quick trip to Las Vegas. I checked on a few machines at Aria and on several at the MGM Grand where I stayed. I got one machine at Aria and got about 4.00 on one play. The Aria machine I think allowed me to play just three quarters for a three hand poker. At the MGM Grand I looked at the nickel games and found three machines with the multipliers left on the machine. However, when I tried to lower the bet the display said to play the maximum to play. It was not the Bonus version. I did as all three hands on a deuces wild had multipliers. Won on all three hands, but played through multipliers till there were none. Wished I had more time. Only looked for three hand games. Good advice for a low roller!

Great video, Bouries. Thank you. It was getting harder and harder to find video poker edges on Classic VP machines like 9/6 JoB. Casinos are lowering the pays on Classic Machines to 8/5 and 7/5 now. Most full pay I see is now is Deuces Wild or Bonus Poker. Although I have found 9/5 JoB at Stations, and still play them to this day with my Free-Play from Blackjack. Ultimate X is everywhere, so I am very happy to know this information now. I'm a younger counter, live in LV, and I love playing micro-stakes VP with my comps!!

If you like playing Ultimate X poker would it make more sense to bet bonus credits and then when you have multiplyers then on next hand lower your bet down to 5 coins? And then bet the bonus coins again until you have multiplyers and then lower back to 5 coin bet and keep repeat playing that way? Or just play the max credits bets everytime?

You can only get the bonus payoffs when you bet the max 10 coins. What you are looking for is machines where the previous player did that and then cashed out before taking advantage of the bonus payoffs. Then you are getting the extra payoffs when you only bet five coins rather than 10. You just spin it one time and then leave the machine.

Haven't tried this strategy yet! I did have a good Ultimate X session recently...good advice on making sure the last bet of your session isn't the maximum, makes sense (unless maybe, you want to be nice and leave multipliers for the next person 😉).

Yes. You would play that way, but only if a multiplier is still sitting on one of the paylines.

Slots and video poker games will offer lower returns than you will usually find in land-based casinos. If you like to play table games, the rules offered in the cruise ship casinos are usually the same as offered in land-based casinos, so that would be a better value for your gambling dollar.

Hi I'm not a big gambler but I do go to the casinos a couple times a year. I have a couple questions about your video. Number one I don't play poker so when you talk about the ultimate X poker machine which game should I be looking for in that machine, another words what's the best game to play? If I find a multiplier for the next game and I play the five coins like you say and I win what it seems to me you're suggesting I get up from that machine and go look for another machine it has a multiplier is that correct? The reason I asked that question is supposed I like the machine I just sat down and got a multiplier on and wanted to play it for a few hands, not knowing what I'm doing I could have beginner's luck maybe LOL. I really would be interested to know what game on the ultimate X poker machine do you feel is the best one and easiest one to play? Well it doesn't matter what game you look for as long as it has multipliers available on the next hand. But in order to have a good chance of winning, you would need to know how to play the hands you are dealt correctly which can differ slightly from game to game. The easiest video poker game to learn to play would definitely be jacks or better. Knowing the strategy for that game will also translate well over to most other games like bonus poker or double bonus. The strategy differs for those games so you wouldn't be playing perfectly but it would be good enough to get you the bonus wins. As for continuing to play after the multiplier is gone: I would not recommend that. The reason is that because the bonus feature in ultimate X does add a little to the over all payback of the machine and because of that, the paytables tend to be worse on these machines than others. If you want to play without the bonus you would be better off looking for another regular machine which I can almost guarantee will have a better paytable.

Like I have a black Jack guide that's the size of a playing card and it has all the rules and also when to take another card and when not to. Is there something like that for poker?

Kansas City has 9 - 5 Jack or better and 8 - 5 bonus poker. I cant fine any 9 - 5 Jack or better. There use to be a quater machine at America Star but I don't see it anymore.

Sorry, but all video poker games at lottery casinos in New York do not allow skill to be used. Therefore, it won’t work there. However, it will work at non- lottery casinos in New York.

It does happen, sometimes, but it's rare. Usually, there are other steps a casino can take before barring someone from the casino for being too good at video poker. For example, they could exclude the player from any casino promotions, such as extra point days, drawings or earning prizes. Or, they could exclude the player from being sent casino mailers where they are giving freeplay to the player. Or, worst of all, they could just take away the players club card.

You will see vultures play the buttons like a piano to see what is left over. While I won’t do that, on an All Star or Super Star if I am playing something else, before I leave I will always check and play off all multipliers before I leave. (I rarely play Ultimate X because of strategy changes, bad pay tables, and too pricy for my budget.)

I love 8/6 I moved from 6/5 to 8/6 (can't find 9/6 at the casino I go to) and now I win once every 3 times instead of once every 20 times. :D :D

The best game to play is Jokers Wild Video Poker with the jackpot being 5 of a kind for 4000 coins for max bet usually 5 coins . I like the machines in Atlantic city especially at The Tropicana they have many of these machines and people do quite well on them also the paytable is usually 8/5. Most people in the country don't have these machines in their casinos and aren't aware of this which is a real shame. Also remember the main reason for playing these Jokers Wild Machines is that there are 13 ways to get a 5 of a kind and there are only four ways to win a Royal Flush! That in itself should prove my point. I'm just making a proven observation that's all !!!!!

How do you get 5 of a kind? Is there a wild card? Assuming that there is a joker to get your fifth of a kind, there are only two ways to complete a five of a kind. But then again 4 of a kind pays good too, while a busted straight flush can pay zero.

Something does not make sense. If you find one of these multiplers, why would you not bet 10 coins versus betting only 5 coins? You have the advantage? Why not bet as much as possible? They mention not to leave any multiplers for next person as the reason. Why would you leave the game in the first place if you have multiplers for a possible second hand? Can someone explain this.

You generate more multipliers if you have a winning hand. You don’t win 10x the base credit amount, you only win 5x with the other 5x funding the Ultimate X feature.

I don't understand why you would want to only play 5 credits. My thinking would be that if it is a positive EV move, one should maximize that. I usually look at your channel to be amused by its clickbaity titles like "How to win at slots" where the video then admits you can't. Obviously. However, this video actually lived up to its title! I'm curious, though, in the real world, how difficult it would be to find a machine with an unplayed bonus round. How long would it take, on average, to find such a machine in Vegas? a few minutes? A half hour? An hour? Several hours? Almost forever? One obviously can't make big money in terms of time invested with this gambit, but it would be fun for me as a non-gambler to play video poker once in a while with the odds heavily stacked in my favor so long as finding a playable machine wasn't like looking for a needle in a haystack.

How to win at Video Poker: Don't play! Sadly, I'm done with Vegas now that they've removed all the Full Pay Deuce's Wild. Just no point to play anymore. My local casino in AC, Borgata, gives me no points or tier credits for playing a 9/6 JOB game. It was fun while it lasted, but I'm done with casinos and can't be the only one who feels this way after all the nickel and diming and poor games.
