@ILB4 жыл бұрын
There's many areas to improve, so I'd self-diagnose weaknesses FIRST and then focus on where you need the most improvement. 1. Approach (no stutter steps, a consistent increase in speed, explosiveness, dorsiflexed ankles) 2. Plant (penultimate step fast/proper control) 3> Take Off (knee drive, arm drive, eyes on the target, staying VERTICAL during take off AND in the air (not leaning forward or backwards)

Best advice there, is jump UP before beginning the windmill motion. Lean slightly forward can help with rotation. Most people fail to jump up and then windmill- they instead start windmilling as soon as they leave the ground, and it kills their vertical

Hey there, I am 5’7 and can touch the backboard standing without really trying to. I can touch the rim and touch it every time when I go for a finger roll. I have been jumping with 2 feet for a long time, but recently I started jumping with 1 foot. That’s when I could start touching the rim consistently. I want to know what else I need to do to be able to dunk. ( I almost slammed it in a few days ago, from an alley. It went in but it bounced/rolled around for a bit) Do you think I can dunk or do I need to grow/ make my vert higher. (My hops are natural. Haven’t been trained). Replying to this would really help. Edit: For some reason when I jump for rebounds, I jump higher than when I actually want to. It’s like when I attempt To dunk I jump lower than I can

@ILB4 жыл бұрын
Nearly ALL players lose inches on their vertical when a ball is in the hands. So I'd put more focus on your approach/plant, and finding arm explosiveness WHILE holding a ball. It'll take a couple weeks of consistent reps, but you'll get use to jumping with the ball in hand, and you'll add the 1-2 extra inches needed to dunk consistently. Then you can just dunk 2 hands.. makes the small hands issue not a big deal anymore :P haha

@ILB4 жыл бұрын
You totally do. I'd focus on getting into the best shape possible to start! You're a strong body for your age/height- so I doubt strength is an issue at this stage. I'd focus on leaning out any unwanted weight and make it a focus to really understand and master jump technique (2 foot technique first) then move into learning 1 foot technique AFTER! Hope that helps!

BIggest thing is REPS. You have to get use to doing everything mentioned in this video AS GOOD while dribbling as you do when you're not holding a ball. We all have 1000s of jumps typically without a ball (as childrens, then basketball players 99% of the times we jump in our lfe we're not holding a ball) So when we add a ball- it makes everything kinda fall out of wack a bit. If that makes sense? You just need to get USE to doing these jump tactics while practicing with a ball in hand!

can you make a video of how to jump up instead of far away. Because when i jump, i'm jumping in far, not up
