I started bowling almost 2 years ago. I started one handed and tried it seriously for about 2 months before trying two handed. I struggle with lower back issues and the first thing I noticed was that my back felt good two handed and I can throw all day (one handed it would get sore around game 4-5)! It didn’t take long for me to stay two handed because of that and it’s also nice not worrying about the thumb! Yes, it’s way easier to target one handed and it’s easier to miss both target and off the hand two handed but the positives for me is worth it. When it comes to anyone bowling at any level. Give all the methods a try! Especially two handed as no two hander throws the same, they all have their own unique twist. I started out emulating Chris Via, but over time it turned into more like Matt Ogle with my own twist on certain areas. For my game, I found it more consistent being very straight with my approach and limit as much movement as possible.

I don't understand how your back felt better two handed given the extreme body angle and spine tilt in two handed.

I have been doing 2 handed style due to my issue in my wrist like you and I saw my old video doing 1 handed style I noticed that I'm doing a bit better than 2 handed because there is a consistency.

I just started bowling 9 months ago. Im one handed. I have a hard time generating decent revs because I have a little pain in my distal bicep tendon. Practice sessions are crucial for me, to get it warmed up and stretched before I get into the game. Today, in practice, I had to throw 2 handed because I forgot my thumb insert. Game 1 was terrible because my revs were so high and ball angle was so different than my one handed throw. I couldnt bowl the same lines I typically throw. Game 2 and game 3 got progressively better as I found that my targeting was getting better. I was also able to manipulate my hand position easier depending on pin location for spares. Idk man... Im still going to try to improve on my one hand game. But the two handed game is looking more enticing for me now.

I want to add some details to your very informative video (and I'm not just saying that... I think you did a great job with it). I started bowling 1-handed but switched to 2-handed after a few years because I could never really hook the ball and it seemed like a lot of fun to be able to do that (I was also in my early 50s so why struggle for years?). When I played one-handed, I had no problem using the arrows to target. However, when I switched, my aim/accuracy using the arrows was never really great. They were just too far away. However, there was a lot of improvement in my accuracy when I started targeting the dots about 6 feet down the lane instead. Those are much easier to hit. If I'm standing at 31 and want to hit 17 it is not too difficult. Also, if you get low and extend your arm towards your target, you can almost touch it (not literally, but close enough). I completely agree that it is harder to keep your hand position very consistent when playing two-handed. It is very easy to come too far around the ball on the release instead of right up the back. And chicken-winging the ball is very easy too. Sometimes I use a figure 8 swing to help with that if I'm having a hard time. I swing out then come around to the inside with my elbow on the downswing. I don't know if one style is better than the other. Some people hook the ball just fine with one hand (like EJ Tackett). Whatever feels comfortable. In fact, I throw one-handed at my 7, 9 and 10 spares. It just feels more comfortable to me.

That of course is the main idea behind the video; doing what is comfortable for you. We love the fact that you were able to find something that worked for you! Just getting out there and figuring out what is best is all part of becoming better and growing your game.

I bowl without a thumb one handed. I've done it my whole life. Is that strange?
@realaverageatbest11 ай бұрын
No, there are a few people who bowl one handed without a thumb! It’s a more unique style but not strange at all. Look up Tom Daugherty on KZbin and you’ll see, he’s a PBA bowler who is one-handed without a thumb in

Can you use one hand or two hands in same game
@Lange07164 ай бұрын
Yes, as long as you don't use the same ball. You need to fill all the holes in the ball at all times when throwing, so if you want to throw 2-handed with no thumb, then the ball you throw for that shot needs to only have the two finger holes. If you then want to bowl 1-handed with a thumb the next frame or to pick up a spare, you need to use another ball with the two fingers and a thumb hole in it.
