I tried this diet for almost a year and I lost and gained the same 9 pounds.😂 I have lost 130 pounds on a whole food plant based/vegan diet and am never hungry and have never gained any back. Got off a ton of medications and changed my life. Wish I had known sooner. I am now 58 years old and rocking life and tell anyone who wants to listen how I did it. Thank you Dr Barnard!👍

The only influencer I have any real faith in is Doctor Valter Longo, who studies blue zones in great detail and discovered from epidemiological studes who lives longest and what they eat. The answer is most often some version of the Mediterranean diet (no, not lots of pasta and pizza) that includes lots of plants, some small fish, and where possible goat/sheep cheese/milk. Vegan diets lack certain nuitrients as do meat based. And the general advice is not to stuff your face with food of any kind.

Oh NOOO! Gemma throws grape fasting out the window!!! Grape fasting for a short time is like water fasting or a juice cleanse. These types of fast are NOT sustainable, and should only be used short term. Also, should always be used under guidance. When I started my healing journey I did experience some of these higher levels of detoxification and had great results, including getting rid of mucoid plaque and parasites...YUCK!!! My gut needed a good cleanse so I can have excellent absorption and utilization from all these awesome nutrients we get from plants. This level of detox is NOT for everyone! But, I can honestly say through my experience, I had great results. 🙏 Hugs & Blessings ❤

I did a 21-day grape juice fast. No such effect that you described. I don’t know if that has anything to do with me being a vegetarian since birth. How long did you do that to see the results? Was it grape juice diet or grape diet? A couple of years later I did water-only fasting for two weeks (and several shorter term water fasts during the two year period), but no such effect. At True North Heath center, which has water- fasted tens of thousands of people (with medical supervision) for extended periods (such as two or three weeks or even longer fasts) over last 3 decades, they also don’t report any such effects. And the True North Health center is staffed with doctors and scientists who do twice-a-day monitoring of subjects during fasting (they sometimes even publish their results on effects of fasting on various health conditions in peer-reviewed scientific literature). They also have juice fasting (but they usually use vegetable juice with a little fruit juice). The grape-juice diet is promoted by Dr. Morse, and I went through all his weekly herbal sets costing totally a few thousand dollars, but no such effect or any noticeable effects. In fact, I have seen much better health effects from inexpensive Ayurvedic herbs than by any of the Dr. Morse’s herbs.

@@RK-tf8pq Hello, my friend. Yes, I had great results! I have my testimony video on my channel. Although, I have change many things in my diet "lifestyle" Like eating lots of beans and whole grains, lovin my oat grouts! I haven't made a video in awhile, but, hope to return soon with an update. Oh, how I have changed my mind on soooo many things as I hit a plateau! That's why I believe these detoxes are great short term, like deep cleaning your house. I think that's where Dr. Mores gets it wrong. Just eating fruit is cray cray in my opinion. I did however get caught up believing him because I was having such great results the first few years..."I never became a fruitarian" but, very high fruit. Now I have a balance with fruit, veggies, beans, grains! It's perfect! I don't eat much rice though. Anyhoo, wishing you a very blessed day. Let me know if you stop by my channel! Hugs

The way the Med Diet gets presented always has seemed in contradiction to the way people from that region actually eat. I have a Greek cookbook, and it's hard for me as a vegan to find any recipe that doesn't include meat, fish, or cheese. Even their veggie dishes and salads almost always include cheese of one type or another. Yet when they talk about the health benefits of the Med way of eating, they gloss over the high amounts of animal products these diets contain, as they are actually practiced.
@sophiekarnak3936
@sophiekarnak3936 Жыл бұрын
The term "Mediterranean diet" originally referred to the diet in rural Italy and Greece in the 1950s, which was definitely not tons of pasta and meat and cheese. In fact, even in the 1970s, when I spent a summer in a little fishing village in Greece, breakfast was just bread with honey; lunch was usually potatoes with chickpeas or fava beans, or sometimes lemon & rice soup; and dinner was usually grilled fish, potatoes, cooked vegetables, and salad. Once a week or so there would be chicken or wild rabbit. There was feta cheese, but just a little crumbled on top of a plate of tomatoes and cucumbers. For snacks there would be little dishes with olives, nuts, and roasted chickpeas. That's also the kind of "Mediterranean diet" that people were eating in the "Blue Zones" of Sardinia and Ikaria - not what's on the menu at a typical Italian-American restaurant. My dad is morbidly obese, diabetic, and has serious heart disease, but he always claims to eat a "Mediterranean diet" - which by his definition is a standard American diet with extra pasta and olive oil! I agree that this diet really needs a new name in the 21st century, because what most Americans think of when they hear that name is not remotely similar to what people in rural Greece and Italy were eating in the 1950s!

@@k.h.6991 i don’t think that’s nescesqrily true. i mean i’m vegan. but even among the adventist’s the pescatarian had a health span and longevity advantage. maybe now with vegans adding epa and dha they will get ahead of the fish eaters. but many blue zones ate up to 40% by weight of their diet from animal products. again i’m not saying that’s ideal. but in the short term on paper vegan looks great. but in terms of outcomes the cretans and ikarias etc (mediterranean) were outliving vegans. and worse they were often smoking too. and not getting cancers because of high levels of vitamin c. i don’t think we can definitively say yet life long vegans or lifelong vegetarians are living the healthiest and longest lives in the long term.

I DON'T EAT ANYTHING WITH A FACE OR A MOTHER! Animals do find this to be quite agreeable. Conventional wisdom is that “vegan” and “athlete” simply don’t get along - let’s call it irreconcilable differences for now. I’m here to say that is complete nonsense and just plain silly if given much thought. "where do you get your protein?” LOL... I hear this often. A Question for you to consider... Ever hear of a person that is sick from protein deficiencies? The belief systems around food are deeply entrenched in our society- similar to religion and politics - emotions can run high. Conversations become debate, and debate leads to mudslinging … which can be destructive. We live in a society in which we have been willfully mis-led to believe that meat and dairy products are THE SOURCE of dietary protein worthy of any merit. Without copious amounts of animal protein, it’s impossible for you to be healthy, let alone perform at a high level? Right? The message is everywhere on TV., a recent dairy ad campaign pushing chocolate milk as the ultimate athletic recovery beverage? How? (In a diabolical way this is genius). Protein, protein, protein - often reinforced with the adage that more of it is somehow better. Milk or egg is in virtually everything you buy today. What happens with the excess protein in your body? Whole foods are clearly the answer when it comes to human fuel!!! 7 time superbowl champion Tom Brady does not consume meat and dairy! coincidence? Whether you are a professional athlete or a couch potato, this hardened notion is so deeply ingrained into our collective belief system that to challenge its propriety is nothing short of heresy and craziness. But through direct (NEAR DEATH) experience, I have come to understand that this pervasive notion is at best misleading, if not altogether false … It is fueled by a well-funded campaign of disinformation perpetuated by powerful and well-funded Big Food, Big Ag, Big Pharma, and the industrial animal agriculture interests that have spent trillions of marketing dollars to convince society that we absolutely need these proteins in order to continue breathing air is completely outrageous? Big Business will protect their wealth long before they protect your health!! I GUARANTEE YOU THIS. There are no subsidies or profit in Fruits and Vegetables. The animal protein push is not only based on lies, it’s killing us, luring us to feast on factory-farmed, hormone- and pesticide-laden, low-fiber foods extremely high in saturated fat. Eating this way is the #1 cause to our epidemic of heart disease (the world’s and USA's #1 killer), diabetes, cancers, digestive problems, heartburn, high cholesterol, blood pressure problems, fatty liver disease, and acid reflux disease (directly from meat). Bowel movement problems? Diarrhea? Constipation? Clearly lifestyle-induced infirmities that have rendered our prosperous nation (The USA, one of the sickest societies on Earth). And big pharma keeps handing out more pills and prolonging the sickness Big Pharma and Big Ag have been dictating the American diet our entire lives! No money to be made in healthy people, who are not addicted to Sugar, Salt, and Fat. These behemoth corporations will stop at no cost to feed the food addictions and spend billions to tempt your palate. Medical science establishes beyond reproach that both casein and whey contribute materially to degenerative disease. Proteins found in milk, cheese, butter, and meat "casein" has been linked to the onset of a variety of diseases, including cancer. And whey is nothing more than a highly processed, low-grade discard of cheese production - A Genius move by the dairy industry that created a Ga-zillion dollar business out of stuff we previously had discarded into the garbage. On a personal anecdotal level, adopting a whole food plant-based lifestyle improves thy health and revitalizes us middle-aged humans to re-engage fitness in a new way(no animals, sugar, and no packaged crap). As hard as it may be for some to believe, adopting this new way of eating and living is invigorating to say the least. My digestive system feels unbelievable, revitalized, and new again! Finally absorbing all of the nutrients and vitamins previously rejected by my fat filled arteries, veins, liver, pancreas, tissues, and blood. Even eating less-concentrated sources of protein like potatoes, sweet potatoes, and bananas will get you exactly where you need to be with protein. Yes they all have protein!If you ate nothing but a variety of fresh fruit, you still would never suffer a deficiency of protein (or even any particular amino acid). Short of starving yourself, it’s basically impossible. In reality, eating plant-based can significantly enhance the ability to expedite physiological recovery between workouts - this is the holy grail of performance enhancement for athletes. I can honestly say that at 55 I am as fit as I have ever been in my entire life with unbelievable blood work now.Despite what we may have been told, more animal protein is not good for your health. Satisfy your requirements and leave it at that. Most people - the overwhelming majority of whom are predominantly sedentary - generally consume upwards of three times plus or more the amount of daily protein needed to thrive.The protein craze isn’t just unwarranted or overhyped! It is mularkey pie, it’s harmful to your health, your children's, and the future of the planet. Extinction of species is happening faster now than ever and the next generation will not live as long as their parents have.. Natural Rain Forests are disappearing to grow protein for animals and natural disasters are becoming much worse with every passing year (Have humans angered mother nature?). There is overwhelming evidence that animal protein intake contributes to the onset of a variety of diseases and problems, such as osteoporosis, cancer, dementia, impaired kidney function, diabetes, high LDL, Low HDL, Heart disease, Acne, depression, asthma, obesity, stroke, gluten sensitivity, inflammation, depression, and much more. There is evidence that Animal consumption is ruining earth and potentially pushing us towards the 6th great extinction (HUMANS?). Plant Based, whole foods are the only diet ever, to reverse type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and improve all your blood markers without harmful medications. Humans current food choices are not sustainable! However, we have been predominantly vegetarian/vegan since the beginning of man kindThere are major benefits to whole food plant-based nutrition, all supported by science:Easy weight management: People who eat a plant-based diet tend to be leaner than those who don’t, and the life plan makes it easy to lose weight and keep it off-without ever counting calories. Simply put they live longerDisease prevention: Whole-food, plant-based eating can prevent, halt, and in some cases reverse chronic diseases. The scientific evidence is especially overwhelming when it comes to heart disease and diabetes, but research has also linked plant-based diets to lower rates of arthritis, improved liver function, and healthier kidneys. A lighter environmental footprint: A plant-based diet places much less stress on the environment and your digestive system. Still not convinced? Here is literally some food for thought: The strongest animals in the world - the elephant, rhino, hippo and gorilla - are plant-powered herbivores. Nobody asks them where they get all their protein. Humans are the first and only species to drink another species' milk ever. Today nearly 90% of all antibiotics created are placed into Animals to keep humans from becoming sick. This idea that we somehow have claws, fangs, and acidic stomachs with digestive tracts, like carnivores is completely nuts. Human digestive tracts are basically identical to a herbivore's digestive tract. This is proven with science! Please put your palate aside for a moment and consider the science and logic behind the thesis. The fat you eat is the fat you wear even if it is not visible on your waistline. The term "whole food plant based" suggests room for eating animals. "Vegan" is plant specific and vastly more accurate. I've been vegan since 1985. Cheese was the last to go in 1989 but was an easy choice once I completely understood the extreme suffering to animals to create an unhealthy food.

You talk about waving green flags but labelling diets as if there is only one way to do them is a red flag for sure. Neal saying that mediterranean (which is actually predominantly plant based, with some olive oil and the occasional animal products - a great way for many plant forward eaters to thrive) is higher in fat as if it's not possible to do it with lower fat intake. Apparently a vegan diet can only be a 'healthy vegan diet' and anything else is just the 'unhealthy x diet'. What a mockery of a show this is becoming.
