I really like how this one turned out. I also like when you zoom in while working and we can appreciate the brush strokes.

I love your attitude about painting outdoors.. playing rather than trying to have a finished painting! I feel so much pressure when I go out doors to paint.. to have a finished painting !! Lately, I’ve been revisiting the same place twice a week for the last two weeks !! It’s helped a lot with solving painting challenges! Thank you again for your weekly posts. I really appreciate it. 💕🥰👍

Michael,I really love the colour combination in the trees.I like, and will try to shake things up,like you did with the time.I’m always fighting myself away from over detailing my work.I think the work is stronger that way.(less is more) .Looking forward to your next one!

Thank you Michael. You achieved that sense of depth. Excellent time well spent (or better, invested).

So liked this! Your looseness with the tree shapes is wonderful. Getting the composition and the values figured seems to allow that sense of play loose. Thank you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that looks for the "perfect" subject to paint. I'm reading 'Carson's guide to landscape painting'. He said, "Don't paint direct from nature...nature is seldom perfect in design." I think it's easier to paint something that has everything you want for your painting so we can just have fun putting it down. But then we aren't necessarily the artist are we;). Love your style!

Sometimes our subject, plein air or not, is just a jumping off point for designing what we want.😅

I do not know how you get up so early every Sunday morning, and go out into the cold and wind to paint. I sure do appreciate that you do, and that you share your art and your thoughts & decisions with us! 🤩

Love ❤️ your process you make it look so easy to paint and love the colour palette as well and the comments about using crimson in landscapes and to adapt the scene in front as you feel it is reassuring that you need not copy the outdoor scenery as you feel it rather than paint like a photo copy.thanks for sharing your experience of painting outdoors as I don’t have that opportunity 🎉

I appreciate the statement you made that the value pattern is the composition. It took me years to learn that.

I’m going to try kicking green off my palette this year and mixing them as I do like the more sophisticated green shades you get. Thanks for another inspiring video and happy new year!

I always take longer to do an outdoor painting. I think it’s because I want to do a great painting instead of just enjoying painting. When given a time restraint when doing outdoor sketching I actually do a decent sketch. I don’t have time to stress, strive for perfection or think too deeply. Duh! I love this video and its message. Thank you for your insight.😊

13:35. - See in the woods at right, “‘ a maiden wears a longish green cloak, the hood is encompassing her face , the inner hood is lined with pearl color white, She looks straight at the viewer. The length of the cloak covers almost 3/4 the length of her peach colored full dress, the front of the cloak is open, the front of the upper dress is light purple. See her brown hair encompass her full face, the pearl hood lining most noticeable left and right of the face and caressing hair. Her right hand is gloved, palm towards her about shoulder height. ‘’ The Maiden of the Wood “‘ , a most beautiful painting Michael ❤️

Interesting seeing you use a Gloucester easel out her on the left coast. Stapleton Kearns and most of the Northeastern painters seem to use them. They are nice and stable and I’ve considered buying one, despite having several other outdoor easels. Nice video too….:)
