It's happened to me getting on at an unmanned station and the ticket machine was broken. No conductor came along the train the whole time and got to Glasgow Central with no ticket to get through the barriers and the staff didn't believe me no one came along and issued me with a fine. There was no wifi on the train either to putchase it on the trainline app, the people working at the train station still couldnt put 2 and 2 together though!

Yes....exactly, this is because rail fares are amongst the most expensive in Europe and keeping increasing well above inflation! How else can the monstrous train driver salaries and their rises be paid for. C'mon... the cost of travelling to London Waterloo is now £12.50.. a 30 min journey. Ridiculous!! They should expect people trying to avoid paying when the ticket prices are so unreasonably priced, the UK is one of the most expensive places for rail travel in the world. Often travelling by train can cost up to a quarter of a days wages, it's just not practical. There needs to be fair price limits applied, in London up to 5 million passengers use the tube a day, regardless of the cost of running the train this volume of customers will make huge profits. In reality the busier the line the cheaper the tickets should be. Why would someone pay so much to get to work that they essentially work the first two hours of a shift to cover the cost. If more people made a stand about this sort of thing they wouldn't be able to extort us, if 70% of the people are naive enough to pay any ridiculous price asked of them it costs us all as the rail companies will be able to press ahead with edging up the prices year on year.
